I think the prevalence of "conspiracy theories" these days has a lot to do with the continued breakdown of trust in the system.

A lot of people just don't trust the system anymore and why should we? Believing anything a known pathalogical liar tells you is crazy to me.

For example, since 2009 I've said that the Fed was effectively "rigging" the market by flowing QE into asset prices (bonds, stocks, etc). I was called a conspiracy theorist crazy loony. Well, now it's common knowledge that the Fed has been supporting asset prices and it's the only reason the market is at record highs when the real economy is still the shits.

Since 2009 I've said High Frequency Trading was effectively "rigging" the market by front running and skimming trades. Crazy fucking conspiracy loony tune I am. Well, now that has been exposed as truth and a FBI investigation is finally taking place.

And on and on.

So, who in their right fucking mind would believe anything our government tells us? Given the track record of corruption and lying that seems totally insane to me and not healthy at all.

To me, the plane disappeared. They can't find it. I feel horrible for the families, but beyond that I don't give it any thought.

But speculation of this nature is to be expected when people are losing (and rightfully so) all faith in wholly corrupt governing institutions.

without a doubt, there are very likely hundreds of conspiracies conspired upon every single day, but small shit; like the local assemblyman pressuring a sheriff to either look the other way to an offense, or to fabricate charges against one businessman to give leverage to another, a friend.

conspiracies for political favors happen all the time, it's why we DON'T trust our elected officials, we don't. they'll sell us out to friends, family and lobbyists; sworn to represent the citizens who elected them, they find themselves unable to say ''no'' to the perks that come with the powers of political influence.

but a bunch of these greedy pricks getting together to pull off a major incident like this? no fucking way, couldn't be done, it's the stuff of pipe dreams which is why it's so popular as Toker's Den fodder.

the very first time they came across a guy who wanted nothing to do with his necessary role or talent in said 'conspiracy' they'd have their first witness & whistleblower, times that by 40 or 50 who would refuse to kill innocent people and you'd have 40 or 50 Snowden's.

just like Chicken Little claiming the sky was falling down, nobody could convince him that it wasn't; you can't disprove a conspiratruther, they won't listen/believe a thing you'd try to convince them of.

yes if they wanted people killed that were on the plane there are allot more inconspicuous ways to do it without leaving any evidence or if there was something in the cargo hold they could easily just steal it with out drawing the worlds media down on them.

there's major stories in my country at the moment about the police conspiring like you explained but that is not surprising. alot of criminals may get off offences due to recording phone calls from criminals to lawyers lol.
