Libeccio's Perpetual Hole

Libeccio

Hey fellows!
i decided to open this thread to share with you all my canna-growing adventures. :) I hope i will be able to regularly update, we'll see...

My setup looks like this (updated aug '14):
Flowering: HomeBox tent 80x80x160 - 250 W hps (agro lumatek bulb + lumatek digital dimmable ballast) - 125 mm vents tt fan for air in and extraction - odorsok filter - 30 cm oscillating fan - various smaller fans - Diamond reflector.
Veg (bonsai mums, clones, vegging plants): 90x50 space - 110 W (55+55) fluoro panel (neon) + 30x3 modular cfl (6400 °K) - mini-greenhouse (basic) for clones - air in and out: passive - 30 cm fan (slowest speed)
Substrates: soil mixes, BioBizz LightMix & AllMix + extra perlite for clones. I will probably switch to BioCanna Terra which i'm trying now. I am also doing a homemade compost i plan to add to my medium in the future.
Nutrients: BioBizz line: RootJuice, BioGrow, Alg-a-Mic, BioBloom, TopMax
Pots: coffee plastic glass, 0,8/0,9 L; 2,7 L; 6,5 L; 11 L
Ph: Milwakee ph600 + Canna ph- "Organic Acid" (for flo & veg)
Other: easy rolls for holding up almost everything, rhizopoon rooting hormone in powder, 15 L bucket for water, thermohygrometers.

I have just converted my garden perpetual. Over the past years i have always grown from seed (taking clones just to maximixe yeld) and i got really nice yelds, realizing almost always 1 gpw (220 - 260 grams of dried product). :) Now, i am more interested in finding nice keepers, and intrigued by the possibility of having bonsai sized mother plants in my small space. in general, now i am more after peculiarity of strains, looking more for quality rather than quantity. :)

Some setup pictures...

it can get preatty crowdy!

(small) veg area, neon + cfls + mini-greenhouse

Now let me show some of my past champions! :)

The first strain i'm running perpetual is Shit from Mr. Nice (skunk #1 afgan dominant). it's a nice reliable strain, i thought it was a good choice to start dialing in my garden. along with shit i ran some unknown nigerian sativa (got it years ago from a bag...) i nicknamed Fela. Couldn't find anything really nice about it in a dozen plants, so i'll be tossing the 2 clones/bonsai mums i have (if you are interested i opened a thread about it https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=278873).

some shit pics... sativa pheno (my favorite so far, but i still have to smoke her, just harvested the big one @ 10 weeks).
#1
#3, very resinous...

indica phenos could be described as a spicier old school skunk (shit is sk#1 afgan dominant), with that famous reeking cat-piss smell + some incense and spices... i don't know if i'm keeping one of these... if so #4, the shorter one.
#2
#4 short, super hard and dense nugs

and some shit clones inside the hps tent...

i'll be selecting some grapefruit x blueberry (chimera) soon (i have 4-hopefully 5- plants to sex) + some other nice things to go, so stay tuned! :)
ciao for now, Lib. :)

hey fellows, a small update. :)

i'm having bad luck with my young grapefruit x blueberry (chimera) plants. quite low germination rate: 6 out of 10 of which one died falling from the shelf (my bad... fuuuuccckkk!) and another tried to sprout from the wrong end. this seed came out only with this very small piece of stem. after some days i thought that plant wasn't going to happen, so i decided to pull that tiny stem out to see what was going on and surprisingly i saw -on the other end- cotyledons and seed's shell buried in the soil. i've always thought it doesn't matter the orientation you plant a seed, because it will find its way out. oh well, i guess i was wrong. :) here she is, i was trying to recover it but today it was dead. so it goes.

so i have only 4 gfxbb. i have already sexed the first one and it is a male! very nice plant, featuring a trifoliate leaf arrangement... i don't have much space, so i cloned it and tossed; i will use it in the (maybe near) future.
trifoliate pattern...

this other gfxbb seedling entered the 12/12 hps tent yesterday... i hope it's a female! she has another (apperently quite common especially in blueberry genetics) mutation: freaky/twisted leaves.

the veg space, with seedlings, clones and bonsai mums...

shit mums, from the left #1, #3, #2. #2 has just donated some clones and got the root pruning treatment a couple of days ago... she's getting better :)

shit #2 mum and her fatty resin covered preflowers...

shit #4 is the shortest pheno i found. super hard buds and one big cola. very skunky old school :) she's gonna get chopped in a few...

one thing i would like to hear your opinion about: my drying space.
i still have to dial in this thing. i am temporarly using this space to dry (i'll probably build a nice drying box). as i said some posts ago, it is a closet that disguises the grow room's entrance. left wall and the top is wood, front wall is real wall and the right side is a black curtain from which you enter the op. :) as you see, i have a small fan not blowing directly on the buds, a passive dehumidifier that works with salts, and a small coffee cup filled with ona gel. my rh is still too high i think... it stays around 65-68% sometimes raising up to 71%. it's a unusually wet period here, so i don't know what i should do. no sign of mould whatsoever on the buds, but they do take quite a long time to dry. i checked today, after 7 days, and stems were still flexible and didn't snap at all. buds feel a little dry... i was thinking to follow simon's method (https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237): he says not to wait until stems snap, but to jar when they still have some flexibility. then you basically do a pre-cure operation where you measure rh inside the jar, which should be around 62% for cure to take place. so i was thinking tomorrow i am going to jar my buds (or maybe put them in a paper bag for one day before that) and try this method out. any advice is REALLY welcome! thanks :)

and now some flowering shit clones! both in the 2,7 L pot...
#1 - sativa leaning berry pheno

#2 - another old school skunk pheno. nice structure after multiple tops. i'm not sure if i'm keeping her...

that's it for now! comments and advice are always welcome! :) Lib.

...oh yes, i forgot a tent shot! it's all shit clones, #4 mum finishing her life in the middle and on the right corner there's the last one of these nigerian sativas which is also close to die... i'm chopping her soon, hopefully as there's almost nothing interesting about the final product from these nigerians... :) ciao!

Chimera is the man :)

Chimera is the man :)

ciao friends, i just wanted to share with you this: today i got a pm from Chimera himself. :D he said someone linked this thread to him and that he was sorry about my low germ rate with these gfxbb (50%, which is still not a disaster :)). just to make it clear: i absolutely didn't blame the seeds for that, there are so many variables (bought the seeds in a growshop) and bad luck sometimes just happens. :) nor i complained here or elsewhere about that... back to Chimera, he told me he's going to send me a replacement and some extras for my trouble. i am completely shocked by this great demonstration of honesty. i have been buying seeds for some years now but this is the first time anything like this happens to me. Thank you Mr. Chimera for your great breeding work, your articles (huge source of infos!) and to be such an honest guy. Thumbs up to Chimera! :good:

hey amigos, a little update on the drying side...
it seems my drying space is effective. i took the hanging buds when stems were not snapping but still had some flexibility but buds felt dry on the outside. then i let the buds rest in a paper bag overnight then i jarred the product. i am following simon's method (https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237) and so far it is going really nice! i like to be able to control better the drying-curing process. i placed a thermohygrometer inside a jar (used one of those i use in my growing space but i will buy some smaller hygrometers only for this issue) and i am monitoring the rh. i have been burping the jar a lot. the rh inside was around 69-70% 2 days ago and now is sitting around 66-67% (buds are just starting to smoke nice). i want to bring it to 62% then i won't burp the jar.

we're talking about this, shit (mr nice) sativa pheno

i'm also sampling some of this nigerian sativa i grew and after about 3 weeks of cure (without simon's method), both aroma and high have improved, but still it is not a special smoke... i'll wait until i finish it then i'll decide if i'll toss the mum i have or not...
here's the "Fela" (nigerian sativa) :)

dried product...
(i must say... so far preattier than it tastes :))

also, i did some hash with ethilic alcool (95%). fast extraction, filtered with a normal screen then with paper (i know i should have used some coffee filters or lab filters but couldn't find around and wanted it! :D). nice one i think, probably my best so far (i'm not an expert :)). VERY strong and thick smoke! i'll make some more... ;)
