big plant ppk

Hello,

I have determined that I will be employing the PPK method within my 4X4 Grow Tent and would appreciate some advice.

I will be constructing close to the same design (growing horizontal with SCROG and 4 individual sites), although on a smaller scale. My upper and lower media containers will be 3.5 gallon buckets, which will be connected to an external reservoir (still have to determine the ideal dimensions, i somewhat recall D9 suggesting 2 gal per plant at minimum?)

Now, would I be better off using 2 gallon buckets for the bottom reservoir? Any other flaws here?

Thanks

Tom check out that link I just posted for D9 it's my current PPK in a 4x4 tent should give you An idea of what you want hope this helps you put man good luck

Thanks, hotboxes.

I'd love to run vert like that, but i'd prefer to run horizontal, as i can then control my humidity, C02, and temperature better. Also, I will be running 2 LEDs parallel to the Hortilux blue (must be horizontal according to manufacturer). Seems as though bigger gains can be had running a full spectrum light horizontal, with ideal humidity, 1200 ppm C02, and 82 degrees; if i ran vertical I could not achieve these ideal levels, although I would gain improved bulb efficiency and increased intensity, but at what cost?

I know this is the vertical section, so apologies.

Would 4 sites be ideal within a 4X4 if I am only going to allot a short amount of time to vegetative growth, desire to have some phenotype variation, and efficient light coverage?

Sorry for the unrelated questions, just attempting to employ this innovative grow design within my given parameters.

Thanks

I use 2gal buckets in my small ppk and think for your set up 2 gal will be adequate. Since you are doing a scrog, you can really do as few our as many sites as you want, you will just need to adjust veg time need to fill the screen.

I use 2 gal for top and bottom buckets....I initially used them bc that's what was available to me, and I also wasn't growing huge plants. I grow some pretty big ones...my largest yielding over 8 oz...

Turface MVP, sourced it from a local distributor. Will screen over top a standard window screen, and then heavily wash it.

Now i'm thinking of 9 sites, 2 gallon bottom bucket and 2 gallon media bucket. I don't have enough room to truly experiment and test phenotypes/regular seeds, so i'm quite certain I will be purchasing and germinating s1's, which will likely be sourced from Dr.Greenthumb (thinking either ECSD(although afraid of Hermies) or Exodus Cut).

4X4X7 Tent, accompanied by a 2X4 lung room. I also have space for a 3X3X7 tent that will eventually house clones/mother plants.

My first venture was with a single spoiled feminized plant allowed to grow naturally within the tent, but she endured tough times and ultimately resorted to male flowers for she lived life in constant danger. *cry*

Now, knowing the inevitable phenotype variation among certain strains (S1's), and potential hermaphrodite tendency's, I desire to sow a greater amount of seeds and slightly increase my chances of finding and procuring flower that I personally enjoy and is marketable.

Also, I believe Dr.Greenthumb's packs come with 6 seeds, so maybe I will stick with 6 sites. This is dependent upon other variables as well, but is certainly an influence.

Thanks!!! Really appreciate all those willing to contribute!!! I really wish I could work personally with some of you, or anyone with knowledge or passion within this industry, as this truly requires team effort!!!

Speaking for myself here, but I have found that most reputable breeders test their strains pretty extensively. I would like to think that hermie tendencies fall more on the grower than the breeder. Obviously its strain dependent, but tons of people bitching about hermie seed stock is bad for business and most breeders would rather avoid that by dealing with tested shit. I've only popped like 5 different types of beans in my life, but I've never gotten a hermie plant..out of 50-60 seeds...I'll report back after these next 2 rounds of pheno hunting tho ;0

I understand what your saying, DabonDabs, I suck! *cry*

Haha, that's why I do browse with a healthy level of skepticism, while also mentioning "potential" hermaphrodite tendencys, and admitting my novice grow, resulting in hermaphrodite expression.

I did recently stumble upon a thread suggesting what you mention, being feminized seeds are no more prone to hermie expression; which is advantageous as I have a peaked interest in breeding, for I must acquire some knowledge in order to make an educated purchase.

Any advice on my business venture? Or if you could PM me with some of your practical experience with feminized seeds (if any) (specifically Dr.Greenthumb) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Wooo

Sorry man I didn't mean it to sound like "you suck"... Not at all. Similarly, I have had my fun with making females grow dicks also. I by no means am an expert and would actually better fit in your novice category!

I too have heard feminized seed stock is more suceptible to hermies. My arguement was merely that good breeders won't release unstable feminized beans. I have no experience with green thumb... Never had any issues with sin city, reserva privada, Cali connection, or Tierra roja.

Rethinking this again, would these tubs suffice, http://www.southernstates.com/catalog/p-8191-duraflex-65gal-plastic-tub.aspx ? I don't quite see much reason not, besides the container being 2" taller, and 4" less in diameter. I'm just looking to grow four plants now and allow them to remain in the vegetative stage a bit longer so they can reach maturity.

Just looking for some reassurance

Free shipping at the moment as well.

Can you tell I have had too much time to think of this?

Thanks, DabsOnDabs.

Should have been capable of coming to that conclusion myself, but I have been questioning everything lately and appreciate some feedback.

Worried about reaching maturity?? my guess is you are growing from seed: yes? the age of these plants is ??? cumulative. If you take a cut from a seed plant mother, or a clone plant mother, and root it, the rooted clones age is representative of the original mother plants age. i'm at 14 days bloom right now, I also have 1 F13 (about a month old) and 2 LeeRoys (5 days old) going from seed. sometime b4 the blooming plants finish, i'll put the 'little ones' in the bloom tent for sexing, the males taken away and the resulting girls go back into the veg space, they will be not the next grow but the next one following, By then the 'little ones' will have returned to veg and probably been cloned again.. but when they go into the bloom rotation (sometime late October, early November), they will already be at mature age (8 months old or so). you probably already know this stuff but I'm buzzed at 6:15, rambling, shes asleep and i'm a morning person. good luck.:dance013:
