About 5000 feet...not as high as you but getting kinda close.

Um, almost double the elevation here my friend. Very different growing zones. Based on NOAA data for Boulder, and frost averages maps (Web links below):

Average last/first frost for Boulder CO: May 3, Oct 6. That's a 5 month frost free period

Average last/first frost up here: June 15, Sept 10. That's less than 3 months frost free

Whereabouts are you turnip? I was living in Summit County around 9000 for years. Always ran my lights at night but winter day time temps could be a challenge for sure. Now I'm in the front range so I can't imagine the temps will be as much of an issue.

Just don't let them get too cold at any point as I'm sure you're aware. Like most of my lessons, I learned the hard way.

Other factors in play to possibly prevent it, but I am hoping/planning to build a green house this spring... more for food plants, but of course if I have the growing space...

We went to a hockey game at Pepsi Center Saturday
and it never even occurred to me to hit a rec shop in Denver
I was more excited about the seats we had

Do any of you guys use batch64 as a medium?

Never heard of it

You can always start some indoors early to get a good jump on the growing season. You could get some shrubby afghani's or some other nice indicas to keep their flower times down to a minimum.

Has anyone run across recreational clones anywhere yet?

Craingslist seems to have more than you could ever need. The Rec. folks just say '21 or older'.... rather than 'red card' required.

I just gave away a half dozen, I didn't need. Keeping my numbers in line. White Russian, AK47, and Jilly Beans.

I always take cuts when I prune before lolly popping them for the SCROG.
