Yep that's the area I'm in- so it would make sense that it's from the same breeders. I think this cross usually is done around 70-90 days depending on how much time (patience) you can provide it tbh I have only taken her 72 days this round will be more like 80, just can't see her improving after 80days. more than likely they used the SD to help speed the flower process up and give it that notorious taste.
Whoever bred the cut you have was not done by my friends. None work with SD. Black Forrest was bred by REv in OR. One of my friends in CO has some of the last beans in existence. I know REv still has a bunch of beans yet waiting for a good breeder male to cross it to. He may have found what he's looking for in a pure Mongolian male that recently showed up in in his work. I'm sure if REv finds a good Black Forrest male that line will continue pure and not hybridized. If you have not smoked a good Vietnamese strain you are in for a treat

Here's the male that's giving REv a woody...

I remember when REv got a package from Russia from a gal groupie with a Russian hat and the beans buried in the package some place. That was many years back. Whatever the beans are I have a very high level of confidence they are some type of landrace/cultivar/whatever you say from that area.

OK so found out Black Forrest is...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Vietnam Black x Hawaiian Cherry Bomb. Best I can figure the CB is Mr. Green Genes F3's. Pretty sure the F3 beans came from Buckwheat and not direct from Mr. GG. I know Ace Seeds has worked with V Black yet will tell you the Viet beans that REv got were from deep in the jungle away from humans. Seems some supposed V Black beans come more from areas near the coast of Vietnam where genetics can get muddled amongst humans. Supposedly REv's CB breeder male was a real stud and passive in crosses yet added some valuable characteristics. Typically something like a wild child landrace like the Viet REv had will dominate anyway.

Just saying Vietnam herb lives in the mountains of CO...someplace...somewhere

That's good stuff mang, my father law has mentioned the Black was a deep jungle strain with some weird characteristics that made it a cache for breeders looking for a landrace cut.

There is a cut called 'deadwood' floating around seattle that came from a member on IC a few years ago (now a banned account)...he was trying to throw it out and avoid it being horded for crazy $$ and apparently threw some around CO. Anyone know where it may be? cause the one in Seattle is a G :)

I guess they raid....because they can....sigh. Glad to read/hear they are reopened. Doesn't give a person (dispensary owners) warm fuzzy feelings realizing it can happen again.

Thanks for info Jhhnn.

Intro of sorts. Sitting here snowed in at 9300', considering what and when to start the 2014 crop. Too high (elevation) for full season here. Last year had to move inside to finish. Maybe a greenhouse this year to extend season.

Go broncos!

One friend grows at 7,000' outdoors without a greenhouse. I keep telling him he's crazy. Last year he could not finish everything properly. I think the frost bit him September 28th. Then he tells me about the hail, monsoons leaching his soil and the crazy winds.

How much growth/age can you get inside.... for an early start? Might the early end be productive?

Have another place at 7600', so it's definitely of interest.

When I say outdoors, what I mean here is potted on the porch, not in the ground, and they sit under a roof overhang so not quite as susceptible to being pummeled by the hail/monsoon weather in the summer.

Problem ending early is there isn't enough darkness. I finished one batch in the sun by taking plants in at 7 pm and out at 7 am. They finished well, and were in small enough pots that I could carry them in and out easily enough.

But, the biggest plants of the season were in pots that were too big to do this. They went until frost (likewise, around mid Sept) outside flowering like crazy but nowhere near finishing, then I moved them once with help, in under the lights. That was a problem. Ended up with huge yield, but not really completely finished. The plants were dying before real amber started to set in, which is a problem for me. I need mature flowers. Too much clear is too racy for me

I have already started beans...Day after Christmas. I grow inside under a mix of T5s and cheap LEDs untill late April or early May depending on weather. I add a couple of CFLs that run from dark till midnight then from 4am till sunrise...That runs till the end of June when i turn off all lights and let them run. Even running this long i was still pulling down buds the day before Halloween. The slight cover i use protects from light morning frosts as long as the days are warm enough. It gets nerve racking waiting for those trics to show some turn in color...i still wonder if i am getting that right???

Yep, I dropped the bean for my summertime tree grow on 11-4, strain is purple morocan by female seeds, (was freeby from attitude) it's already near on 2 foot tall and about the same round. Been topping and doing some training.... I do worry that it won't finish as I won't be able to move inside with it, probably going to build a shelter that I can cover it and start flower early.

kruatalos: You da man, you have shown amazing pics of SBJ,

Hey buddy, I just wanted to stop in and say that the Smurphberry Jamvhas taken over quite a few lights in my garden. My first smell of the finished product was almost a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After curing some more, more like a cotton candy.

And boy does it yield! You weren't joking. Great strain, well done. Got around 20oz+ off 1 plant.

Hope things get better for ya!

i ran into a strain in the Chico hills a few years back called Flavor. There were actually a few phenos. Beans made by a local grower. The pack of dried herb smelled exactly like a PB&J sandwich.

A friend in CO only goes from seed and already started his. He needs to find 50 keepers.
