Quit Alcohol - Support Thread

I drank over the weekend and got the farts and queasy stomache aches the next day, messed up digestive system in general. I woke up depressed without even knowing what day it was or what the prospects of the day held. Then it's an uphill battle to get back to normal it seems. It's a vicious circle. When the headache sets in, then it gets unbearable.
Nausea due to dehydration headache wow, how healthy.

Sex is no where near as pleasurable after even one drink as it is when I work out and burn only. After eating Cannabis specially, its amazing. But alcohol and cannabis won't make it any better, alcohols numbing can't be reversed, it's poison. Oral sex, even plain touch is nowhere near as pleasurable when I drink. That alone is a huge plus to be able to control the habit.

AA saved my life back in 85. I let alcohol carry me to the bottom pits of hell. Quit hell I surrender. I retired three years ago and all the pain of working heavy cont, also got a bad liver so could not to much for pain. So here I am been smoking three years now.

Nice one Blueberry, I'm also going on day 3 no alcohol. Ill drink a brew on Saturday maybe...Feeling better healthwise, ran 3 miles, knee feels better, also did some weights.
Hey David that is awesome that youquit. The liver is powerful and can regenerate if you let it hopefully.
Keep it going, tomorrow is a new day, habit under control..feeling rewarded.

Yeah man day 4. Went to the doctor. I'm ok to get back into everything in terms of sports..so stoked. I have insomnia though but Im holding strong, no alcohol and I feel better now, less irritable and my digestive system is getting better little by little.Every day is a new day.

to me alcohol is classified right as a poison .lots of people can drink it without any major problems .but others it destroys them and everything they touch. if you think you have a problem with drinking you do!!! go to AA meeting get a sponsor and work the steps they do work if you want to be sober as much as you wanted to be drunk.

no one who loves you should have to live in fear of black outs and the rage people release in that state.i am a greatfull sober alcoholic I have been sober for over 30 years you do get better the craving go away .but life will still have it problems so don't think life will magicaly get easier sober it won't at first you will be aware as you stay sober that the decisions you made drinking will have to be weeded through and sorted before you have any degree of comfort in being sober and taking responcablity for yourself once again .

love yourself and you will succeed in making it without drinking .don't fool yourself and think your better and can just have a few later you can not ever drink again but you can smoke and enjoy what you have missed all these years while you were drunk good bless stay strong and believe you can do it because your worth it aloha classic seeds

I, unfortunately, understand some of your stories on this thread. Its been 14 years since ive had a drink. I made the worst decisions while I was drunk, guess that is kinda obvious, but the trouble I got into was ridiculous. Not to mention the health issues I had to deal with.

The last year I was drinking it started to really affect my health to where I spent two days in the hospital. That was the last I ever drank.

I was lucky to be living in Alaska, running sled dogs, commercial fishing and living a generally exciting life style. Oh, and had access to great pot.

I hope everyone here has success in quitting. My thought are with you.

Sweet Classic Seeds, Blueberry,Alaskan, Clean cut good to hear your stories. I know a couple guys who let alcohol kill their minds. I'm not about to let tobacco or alcohol fry me out. A beer once a week is one thing, but if you are super compulsive, and you know it, you have to stay away completely. I'm so close to that it's not funny. I did have only oneglass of wine on saturday with dinner and felt ok the next day and the same evening.

I felt like crap when I drank 4 or so of some stronger beer on Sunday though, that feeling of being out of control. I literally have replaced alcohol with exercise and running during the week, alot of aerobic exercise more than just once a day. It helps with the cravings, Im also cutting out all kinds of junk even caffeine..
I feel the energy coming back and my body getting rid of the fat.

I still fall right back into with drawals or craving with this cycle, I think eventually I will really cut it down, even in the portions I consume at a time..

Ya Trees, kinda sounds similar to my deal in some ways. When I had to go to the hospital it was over 4 beers. I had really slowed down my consumption by this time to only a few beers every couple of weeks or so and no more hard liquor. My lifestyle had already changed by this time and I was done with the bar scene or just sitting around drinking. Even a few beers would screw up my next day at this point, my hands would be numb and I'd feel horrible. So add a stressful week and four beers and you get the hospital.

I'm lucky to have no cravings or miss that type of fun, I've even worked as a bartender. It may be allergies or some other issues but I dont miss drinking at all. I'll bring a soda pop or something if Im the only one not drinking. Oh, and one hitter, just in case...

Here here! During the holidays, I had a good 10-14 day stretch of moderate- to heavy-drinking every day.

After the holidays, I took a solid week off, no booze, didn't miss a thing.

Next thing I know, I've been having 3-5 beers a night for the past 10 days again?!

I felt like crap when I drank 4 or so of some stronger beer on Sunday though, that feeling of being out of control. I literally have replaced alcohol with exercise and running during the week, alot of aerobic exercise more than just once a day.

Again, .. This! I was on a good routine of getting up at 6, going to the gym and then showering there and heading to the office.

New schedule doesn't permit morning gym-trips, this time of year the gym is a madhouse after 4:30 PM, ..

I was just remarking to my wife last night, the early morning workouts kept me honest (read: not drinking) the night before, which was an excellent in-check-keeper kinda thing. :dunno:
I still fall right back into with drawals or craving with this cycle, I think eventually I will really cut it down, even in the portions I consume at a time..

I find that, most times, for me it's just the habit - not so much the compulsion to get hammered. "What, sit here and hang or watch the game, .. And.. Not drink anything? .. Umm.. Why would I want to do that?"

Less about drinking to fall down and more about drinking because it seems to be my grown-man's pacifier. :)

The good news is that the longer my stretches away from booze, that first morning after drinking, I realize more and more how sensitive my body is to this sh*t.

Hey Silver and Alaskan, it's funny but I still am kind of getting over the lack of alcohol in my body. I can't even remember how many days since I last drank, but I still have some cold sweats at night, shakiness slightly, but I also am cutting coffee, so it's probably both.
I have been doing gnarly cardio every day tho. Martial arts and running every day, sometimes both with one or 2 rest days max a week to heal. Ran 7 miles today and my body is in shock lol, but I feel great. Without the alcohol and caffeine I have dropped 15 lbs in 2-3 weeks down from 202 to 183-185 today. Best thing to loose weight. I'm also not getting munchies now that I cut out carbs (beer, bread, pasta etc)
and I'm getting a sixpack back (no pun intended lmao)

inspiring sories here... i credit cannabis for saving my life. i have smoked herb since i was 13 but when i started using in medicianlly instead of recreationally it changed the way i thought about drugs and made me want to be healthier, especialy mentally healthier. i quit drinking alcohol and was able to kick my opiate habit. i have also quit smoking by substituting cannabis for tobacco and just slept as much as possible for about 48-72 hours. (weekend) sadly i picked up the smokes again but am ona mission to quit again. as far as the alcohol and opiates i do not even have craving for them anymore. (its been about 7 years) cannabis truly is a healing plant both for the body and mind. the combination < i think is the key to success. cannabis and determination.

This reminds me (and I'm sure I've blabbed it here half a dozen times), .. After a good week or so off the booze, even two beers has me feeling rough in the morning. It makes me realize how g*ddamned sensitive my (our?) body is to this sh*t.

Lately I've been really tuned in to how dehydrated I am the night of drinking. Waking up with dried boogers clogging my nose, dry mouth, just nasty.

Gross. (However, having spelled all this out here, I'm still pretty sure I'll have some beers tonight.)

20 days is good, before long you will be counting by weeks and months.

Weekends were tough for me, especially with some good football games on. Today we (we, haha) made chillie and a few nice soda pops to wash it down. Oh, and of course some good bud.

I have not touched a drop of alcohol since November 27 last year. Early 30s male here that was slowly but surely turning into a raging alcoholic. I have massive addictive personality and cannot control my intake of alcohol. This all started to escalate in my mid to late 20s and snuck up on me very slowly.

The last time i drunk (Nov 27) i finished one bottle of red wine in like an hour, maybe 90mins (completely standard for me). Next thing i know i was in my car driving down to the supermarket at 9pm at night over the limit seeking out more alcohol like a f****** idiot. Got home, proceeded to drink the next bottle in short time with zero food. Last thing i remember was playing pot limit omaha heads up on Party Poker and i could barely see the cards i was spinning out so much. I passed out at some point, I woke up in the middle of night and threw my guts up. Woke up the next morning feeling like DEATH and decided enough is enough and quit that shit. Have not touched a drop since.

Usually i would abuse alcohol the worst in times of having no herb. Ive also been out of herb for a month or so, so this is the most sober ive EVER been in my adult life. I don't have any other substance habits aside from alcohol & weed. Still about 8 weeks till i can blaze up again, but you know what, this sobriety is being good for me.

As for alcohol, i won't say i'll never drink again, but i have zero intentions of drinking anytime soon.

I'm a recovering alcoholic, and I drank a six pack tonight. My bad! It was a real low ABV brew. I know that if I don't stop soon that I will die.
