rescue dogs, so far too much trouble to deal with

first time since I've adopted Scooby I accidentally left her un-kenneled with Alice while I ran to the local store (10 miles round trip & 20 minutes time) for a few items, of course as many of you have read through this thread you know there's a chance that Scooby would attack Alice and w/out my being there to stop it immediately could be tragic.

I always sit on the edge of my bed to change clothes to go out in & all I ever have to do is reach over & latch her kennel, when Scooby sees me getting ready to leave she gets in her kennel w/out me asking, she knows the routine.

So lucky me (& Alice), when I walked in the 1st thing I noticed was the kennel door being open and Alice laying in her usual spot in front of Scooby's kennel while I'm gone. I'm thinking that Scooby is so used to the routine that she knows she should be in until I come home, but have no intentions of risking that move on purpose to find out.

Scooby's such a good little girl but her past is a mystery to everyone including the rescue league I adopted her from. She's entitled to share the bed while I'm sleeping and she always starts out doing exactly that laying next to Alice or snuggled by me, if she's next to Alice when I fall asleep she's in her kennel when I wake nearly every time, she likes her kennel and soft pet bed inside.

Worst species ever placed on this planet was Mankind , they are the only ones that can & do show cruelty . That`s why I prefer animals to people .

yes many of us act like hairless chimps, being aggressive for no apparent reason. Oddly, house cats will also kill just for fun.

so another attack by Scooby just happened, this makes two in 40 days :(

again Scooby was not biting but bouncing over & around Alice and snarling/barking viciously. they were in my line of sight and there was nothing more than Scooby moving on the bed, I jumped up fast shouting loudly but Scooby kept going, as I reached into the mix Scooby backed off a bit but still was angry as I ushered her into the kennel only 3 feet away. and as always Alice was laying down, never the aggressor.

Scooby was well into her guilt mode when I put her correction collar on just a few minutes after, I scolded her ass good and let her have a short uncomfortable blast @ power level 17 (out of a high of 127) and she shrieked, it didn't give me or Alice a bit of comfort when I repeated the process, another firm scolding and then a short blast.

All the times that Scooby's gone after Alice there hasn't been a single time that I laid a hand on her, a finger wagging w/a scolding has been her punishment, that and a few hours of being locked in her kennel. Whenever this has happened before she's on her quietest best behavior for days after, Scooby has a very good memory in this regard.

Now I'm hoping she remembers this chapter in our lives the next time she wants to assert some dominance in my house. I'll always give her the consideration that I don't know her history, she still woofs & growls when she dreams, I'm sure she's battling some demons.

Love and adoration are given often & equitably here, each dog gets her special needs addressed too; Alice loves her hunting/fetching games while Scooby likes to run/patrol the yard & driveway when I point out potentially intriguing areas to her. Neither wants for anything, except more biscuits.

are both of them female? my wife works for a veterinarian (actually, she has for over 15 years) & they all say that 2 females have what you might call SERIOUS dominance issues. when male dogs scrap, it is mostly noise & flashing teeth. when 2 bitches get into it, somebody is gonna get bloody. sounds like plain ol' jealousy to me.

it's a good time to refresh this thread instead of the currently running 'Scooby bites owner' thread, I'll certainly post there again updating anyone interested in her adjusted behavior. :)

It never fails, whenever I'm having trouble sleeping it's usually the times that Scooby's locked up in her kennel which sets right on my bed as most of you know, only if I'm exhausted can I zonk out for hours while Scooby's locked away. It's not guilt by any means, her kennel is clean and very comfy w/plush bedding and never locked up for more than 3-4 hours; when the kennel door's open she'll spend as much as 12 hours of each day in it of her own volition.

so back to the quality of my sleep and how it's affected by Scooby. She sleeps with me and always takes position near my head/chest area where she curls up to make herself smaller, I always have my armrest pillow on top of her for my comfort, Scooby's deepest desires are for that pillow (or the position near me that it represents to her) and she settles right in for uninterrupted snuggles, Scooby never moves at all.

I'll wake up hours later and sometimes a bit confused wondering where Scooby is before I realize that my little snuggle bug is still under the pillow. I've used an armrest pillow under my right arm for decades always sleeping on my left side, suddenly there's a dog in that mix. My absolute best sleep these days comes from having Scooby in her favorite place by me, a short nap can turn into 3-4 hours of quality sleep or a night or restlessness by me can be quelled by letting Scooby out of her kennel to snuggle up.

And that's what happened last night/this morning, I woke up time after time, every 30-45 minutes, Alice was sleeping down by my legs, Scooby in her kennel & I had my pillow for typical comfort but deep sleep or rem sleep was out of the question; it was time to release the kraken, I secured Alice in her kennel and invited Scooby to share my arm pillow, I woke up refreshed about 4 hours later.......

Here's an interesting rescue of sorts, happened in Ireland in 2012, I know nobody likes to link out from here so google it (homeless award bridge rabbit) on your own. YouTube vids also as the rabbits owner needing some rescuing himself.

most of the time a furry companion is all that homeless people have to return their own love.

That rabbit wasn't His pet it was his lunch, and He needed a bath any way.
The media even gets it all wrong in Ireland too.

Peace; Twisted

When it was a truck driver, and would pick up hitch hikers with dogs, They were such well behaved dogs. Even with My Brittney Spaniel eager to meet, and make new Friends.
Being on the road One on One with a dog builds VERY STRONG special bonds. Me and Toby in the truck, and For a person and a dog living rough,,, well that is an even closer situation.
There is nothing between You, Your Dog, and the Mean Ole World.

Peace; 1TT
