Ken's Grand Daddy Purple

I was under the impression that Ken's GDP cut was the original GDP. Back in the day on the forums there were two "GDP" cuts going around....Kens cut and what was being called the Royal Cut.

I read enough reviews that said Ken's cut was superior and the pics made me drool, so that's what I went after and secured.

I have seen many pics of Kens gDP seeds that looked exactly like what I have, so there are/were good seeds out there to be had....

I know of plenty of people that had Ken's cut and let her go, so it's not the end all be all. Like I said above, there are stronger cuts out there for sure. But the color/taste, and quality fo the high make it a favorite of mine and many who I've let try it.

Smooths out my nasty anxiety/depression so well!

see, this is where I wanted the thread to go.. lolol...

Ya, most of what people are getting in the Bay Area and Sacramento area is FAKE GrandDaddyPurple. The real stuff is some of the most tasty kind buds on the planet AND it goes purple, AND gets fat about mid-70s temp..

:rasta:

This funny conversation got even more interesting when I started talking about my FEM version of GDP(clone) I got from DHN in Oakland about 8 years ago. As soon as they tasted it, they loved it. They are growing about 20-30 of my FEM version of GDP next year. I`ve grown about 20 from the original FEM#1 and no hermies at all. Some of the sweetest herb I have ever tasted and it goes purple too!

btw, the Ken's GDP clone I have is looking nice. I will let it bloom with the season and in a few months, I will hopefully have some sweet purple. I`m trying to give Ken's GDP all the credit in the world but when a person has the real GDP, the bay area club shit is TERRIBLE! (even if it tests 22%+ thc)

I rate on taste, smell, and effect mostly. I`ve never seen a strain burn like a dense knot of horse hair and taste good.

All the stuff I have tried labeled, "Ken's GDP" was little or no purple and a little hashy/citrus taste. I thought it was fairly bland and NOT the super-sweet grape smell or taste I was looking for..

Everyone wants Sweet + Heavy + Hard Hitting + Purple. :)

I think Ken's is not sweet, not heavy, not very stony, and some purple. I will know for sure since I have my hands on it.

This quote was taken from Ken's website.
It also says the taste is a "Smooth hash taste".. And says nothing about the smell other than it "tastes like it smells", so hashy...

GDP is suppose to be grape smell and taste with major purple fat buds.. Ken even says his is NOT like this. Ken does not have the real Purple Urkle x BigBud hybrid, it`s a champagne kush that turns purple and he is trying to sell that as granddaddy. GrandDaddy Purp, or "GrandDad's Purp" has been around in Nor-Cal for 20+ years.. Ken just wanted to take and copywrite the name GDP like what Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and shit did.

Here:

Limon, that looks like a Champagne hybrid.. Does it smell like SUPER sweet grapes or just a little citrus/hashy? What were your temperatures?

ps, also - stay away from those garbage and shit strains from Modesto, CA. What a shit-hole, meth addict, scumbag town...
If you could read you posted a link to Ken's Grand Daddy which is a Champagne cross... Not the link to The Grand Daddy Purps http://granddaddypurp.com/grand-daddy-purp-marijuana-strain/ It doesn't mention lineage On the "Real Deal" GDP.

People say that the GDP isnt that strong of a smoke. This may be true, but since OJD bred the ChemD into it, the power is all there now.
You can still get that strong grape taste, with the superior power of the ChemD. Just search for the "grapejuice" pheno and get 2 pcks when you order.

Never heard of the GDP X ChemD (Grand Doggy Purps) Sounds good but are there any seeds available?

Connoisseur Genetics, not sure if they still have these beans available but they used to be on the Bay. Out of 2 seeds I had one female which was pretty GDP heavy, my pheno wasn't as potent as the gdp I'm used to seeing but still decent nonetheless :tiphat:

I can get them, special order, cost unknown at this point, and from a local store. Good times indeed. Now what other strains from CG have you tried and would you recommend? I like the sounds of this Lime N Lemon Jones, has anyone run those beans ?

Let me chime in on this. I also have the Kens GDP clone from hill top in Richmond back when they were able to supply clones. They can not anymore and their San Jose shop screwed over the relationship.. but I've had the clone for about 5 years now and whoever made this was lied to. Kens gdp clone is the real deal. Dead on grape candy taste. It is not citrus at all. Grape candy. It does require night temps below 70 to go solid purple. The cooler the more purple. 70 night temps will give you about 50 percent purple. Cooler than that and it will go solid purple around 9 to 10 weeks. Yield is moderate. If anyone tells you gdp yields high they are lying. You might be able to pull a pound off a 1k if you are really dialed in with it. More than likely less. Gdp seeds are a little shady in what they say the genetics are, but most of the time is decent pheno in there. I've had most of the best cuts cali has to offer and Kens gdp (the real one gotten straight from Ken) will forever have a spot in my garden. There's a reason for the granddaddy hype of the past. The only reason a grower wouldn't keep the strain is the lack of yield

Thanks sidewing, great info a pound per 1k is low wow. I'm looking more for flavours nowadays so gdp and grandoggypurps are on my list, time to get those beans now. I like the cheese I have too, real tasty. Which surprised me since the seeds came from GHS and I've never had a keeper from them. I've also picked up a bunch of tga gear hoping to find some more flavourful strains. Thanks again peace

In my honest opinion I do not think you will find the clone only pheno(that everyone raves about that has the real one) in the Kens gdp seed packs, but will find good other phenos. I've seen pics of one's from seed that look damn good and close and almost solid purple. But nobody that I've seen have gotten that purple grape cotton candy taste. Very similar to purple urkle but more like sweet candy. Most people I've seen reference the grape earthy taste from the seeds..

Gdp is like grape bubblicious gum. Or trix.

I have heard of the norcal cut "gross domestic product" but never had it. People say it goes way more visually purple but that's all I can say about it. Don't know which is better

No, I'm not that naive to believe I'd get something identical to the mother from the beans. Something similar to the mother, possibly even better but not identical to the clone only mother.

Seeds are like lottery tickets some you'll win, some you'll play again and other will be discarded but you can't win if you don't play. I'm still going to pony up the dough and get some GDP Seeds from GDP and I'd like to grab the Grand doggy purps from CGS.

Does grand daddy purple still sell seeds ? And is patient2patient .. Advanced genetics or klone king the same seeds ? Is the Richmond store still open?

All of this is giving a bad name to purp. Long live the real urkle!!!

I honestly blame the clone market. There are a few who are legit, but many will mislabel. I have gotten the ken's GDP cut from his Richmond club and it was garbage. I've got some from Blue sky and they were crap. I've bought seeds and they were not what I was after. I ended up getting a cut of Cadillac purple from Harborside which is a cross between purple urkle and the black. It is the closest I have gotten to the real purple that I have been looking for (frosty, purple, and tastes like grapes). You have to find the real cut through trial and error. Sometimes you will get an inferior cut of the same genetics and you will have to breed it so that it become your interpretation of the original.

Before GDP was around there was a strain going around that I'm convinced was the parentage of all the good purple strains. It was the densest weed I have ever had that was basically 100% purple and tasted just like the GDP. Ever since the appearance of that strain people continue to crossed it with more non-indica dominant strains creating hybrids with new names that are always inferior to the original.

GDP does not that i know of. their breeders broke away from the GDP name (probably because of the bad press? associated with it?) and now the same team runs King Klone/BLU genetics. based out of Patient2Patient in San Jose. its the only club to go to really. great product, extremely healthy clones. great genetics.

i was lucky enough to come across the bay 11 clone cut last time i was there. man its great stuff. i come across a cut once every couple of years that just renews my faith in grabbing new strains. this is the one.

not sure why people say the kens GDP from richmond was garbage. unless they were releasing another version of it. but the one i got from them is straight fire. after running dozens of strains over the years that are 'top shelf clone only', its still at the top of my list versus everything else. cherry pie is up there. so is bay 11.

maybe you just didnt have it dialed in to what it likes. ive had some runs with her that are the best weed ive ever had. and other runs with her that im just disappointed with. not sure what makes the difference. but it seems if the plant is not in tiptop shape, it doesnt like the state of stress and the quality shows it. if its happy, it rewards you 10000x.
