Based on your username I bet you're a rep for them. And I call bullshit on that purity.

May or may not be true. 99.9998% purity is .000200 residual, or 200 ppm, which falls well inside the average scatter of the tests run.

200 ppm is nothing to be bragging about however.

Order Receipt
PURETANE 12 PACK USA MADE 7X 300 ml $4.75 PER CAN $57.00
Subtotal $57.00
Shipping $0.00
Total $57.00"

I'm sorry, I missed posting my Puretane butane residue test results to this thread,

Puretane #1 had 0.006g of residue
Puretane, USA, 300ml/167g can, reads on the bottom "13339 (1) 34623 06332"

Puretane #2 had 0.006g of residue
Puretane, USA, 300ml/167g can, reads on the bottom "13339 (1) 34623 06324"

From my Best to Worst list,

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=6099306&postcount=28

Puretane purity:

0.006g/167g = 0.000035928g of residue per gram of butane with residue

1g of butane with residue minus the 0.000035928g of residue per gram of butane with residue = 0.999964072g of pure butane per gram of butane with residue

x100 = 99.9964072% pure butane in Purtane

The Puretane claim is 99.999% pure,

GW, how does adding propane to your mix produce a lighter product?

I've been using Newport, Stok and, I just bought some Colibri... I couldn't say which is the best but, Newport seems to work great.

Capital N-butane and Puretane are sans propane. I tested both, and the residual results can be found in my Worst and Best list I linked to back a post. They both claim no propane in their advertising, but I don't trust the very thin MSDS at the Capital site, and Puretane hasn't produced one yet afaik.

Here are three observations I made during my residual testing that confirms a lack of propane,

1) Low pressure*

2) Boiling point of butane not propane**

3) Lower density, the volume of liquid collected per can is higher than that collected from a regular can of butane with propane of the same weight***

"Why use PURETANE 7X USA?
- It has near zero impurities n-butane
· Odorless
· Highly recommended for torch lighters.

Not all butane is created equally! There are 2 different types of butane that make up the most common brands of butane. Isobutane and N-Butane. For making Honey oil N-Butane is what we want, it extracts better and leaves very little to no residues in the oil."

http://www.puretanewholesale.com/index.html

* If you freeze the cans as I do, you'll easily notice there's a lot less pressure

** The temperature of the collected liquid butane starts at the boiling point of butane, instead of starting at the boiling point of propane like all the other canned butanes I've previously tested.

***You get more volume per weight (lower density) with these butanes sans propane. There are volume indications on my Mason jar, I normally see about 225-250ml per about 165g can, Capital N-butane's 187g can yielded about 325ml, and Puretane's 167g can yielded about 300ml. That's a lot more if you're doing a Mason jar soak.

The bottom line,

I paid $71 plus $8.50 shipping for a case of Capital N-butane, and paid $57 with free shipping for a case of Puretane.

$79.50/12 = $6.625 per can, divided by 187g = $.0354/g for N-butane

$57/12 = $4.75 per can, divided by 167g = $.0284/g for Puretane (also n-butane)

Yes, adding propane lightens the colors.

Well, Gray Guy, lets take it back to 8th grade algebra class. To make a whole number out of a percentage, you need to divide that percentage by 100. SO.....0002%/100=.000002 or 2 PPM's. I'm glad I could clear this up for you. You can see how puretane compares to the others when tested http://www.tokecity.com/forums/show...-Mystery-Oil&p=1335291&viewfull=1#post1335291

From my canned butane Best to Worst list,
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=6099306&postcount=28

Puretane purity:

0.006g of Puretane residue per can divided by the net weight of the can, 167g equals 0.000035928g of residue per gram of butane with residue

1g of butane with residue minus the 0.000035928g of residue per gram of butane with residue equals 0.999964072g of pure butane per gram of butane with residue

x100 equals 99.9964072% pure butane in Purtane

99.9964% falls short of the Puretane claim of 99.999% pure

puretanewholesale.com

versus

Capital N-butane #1 had 0.008g of residue
Capital N-butane, USA, 6.6oz/187g can, reads on the bottom "13337"

Capital N-butane #2 had 0.009g of residue
Capital N-butane, USA, 6.6oz/187g can, reads on the bottom "13337"

0.008g of Capital N-butane residue per can divided by the net weight of the can, 187g equals 0.00004278g of residue per gram of butane with residue

1g of butane with residue minus the 0.00004278g of residue per gram of butane with residue = 0.99995722g of pure butane per gram of butane with residue

x100 equals 99.9957% pure butane in Capital N-butane

99.9957% doesn't quite meet the Capital N-butane claim of no Mystery Oil

Yup, you're right about 2 ppm!

It was actually more of a stoned error than a need for remedial math. I forgot to move the decimal place two places to the left after computing percent of residual.

I know better than do math while medicated, but still forget once medicated.

The central theme however seems to be about purity, not my abysmal math skills while stoned, and Skyhighlers tests at 0.000035928, don't support their purity claims and falls in the central scatter.

Cool story guy but if you're going to criticize others' mathematical skills(in the manner of a snipey teen) you should certainly make sure you know what you're talking about on your end. And you don't.
.00002 is not a whole number. It is a rational/real number.
Pot meet kettle.

@SkyHyLer.

My brother, thank you for your passion in this capacity.
I've followed many many informative posts provided by yourself.

I don't post much on TC , but I'm a member and have bookmarked many many posts sourced from you!

The boiling point calculator, the tane testing, flex heat mats.
Your guidance about vacuum process.

I have a top five list of my favorite folks to ” follow” via on-line forums
You are on the list, along with the other 4, who happen to be regular posters
Here at ICMAG.

Do I have more than just 5? Of course..
But my top 5....

Epic endless abyss of the knowledge to help the” laymen” such as myself.
I've learned lots and lots from the likes of you.

I'd like to take this opportunity to not just single out SkyHighLer for his contributions..however give recognition to all of my on-line mentors..

Although, y'all do this for the passion of our culture and not for the fame nor fortune...
Your contributions have helped many of us better our extractions, raising the bar and constantly pushing the proverbial envelope.

Much respect to all the veterans of ICMAG, the true pioneers of ” better hash oil”
Sir-dabs.

Checkout Capital Butane. Claims 95% n-Butane, 5% iso-Butane, no mercaptans.

Most brands that we use for extraction are similar to capital as they are mostly mercaptian free. The only difference is the propane content, Capital claims to be propane free which is kind of a bummer. Capital is the only brand that uses n-butane and no mercaptian as their marketing pitch, other brands don't include this information because it is useless to people who are refilling lighters.

IMO I wouldn't go for capital because of the absence of propane and obviously Capital costs more, as does anything when you are paying for a gimmick.

Puretane is also N-butane without propane. The pressure is less, but even with frozen cans the flow seemed acceptable, but I don't use an extraction tube, I'm a Mason jar soaker, Brother John the Immerser... ;-)

My Best to Worst butane list (see my ICMAG Signature) states which brands have added odorant/mercaptan.

Thanks for the kind words Sir Dabs, but I've read the ICMAG thread where GW, Foaf, and the gang worked out the pumped closed loop system and am so humbled, them guys got balls...
