Well I can tell you that after 5 to 6 days after transplanting into my 3 gallon smart pots I had big thick roots that shot straight out the bottom of the pots. I also have little roots that poke right through the sides of the fabric pot.

I think I have got my options down and as coco is a really good option I think I am gonna hold off on my next full Grow with coco until I have a system locked down.. I will be going with maybe a 60/40 mix of coco/promix or 50/50. I still will be putting 1 plant in straight coco to learn and get a method down before I commit again to a full coco Grow...

There is just way to much conflicting information out there some saying treat it like soil but with more feedings than soil. Than you have others saying make sure you have run off and others saying they use coco with no runoff. Just a lot of confusing info on the coco topic and what works and what doesn't.

So my best bet is to lay back from coco try 1 to 2 plants at a time until I figure out my own methods in coco then I can resort to doing full grows. I'll do my 1 to 2 plant full coco grows a few cycles until I lock down a fool proof method I think that will be my best bet.

So I am not giving up on it because I really Love the positives of coco just if you really need to run a drain to waste like I did this Grow I would rather wait until I had some sort of system built to do it or space to do it..

Now I can say this I have been running my veg plants in coco everything was good for the first 2 weeks then the salt build up caught up to my young ones I have flushed the coco and viola plants bounced back healthy as can be. Another thing is I have not been ph'ing my water at all while feeding my veg plants and they have shown no ill effects at all from this.

I feel also in coco if you use a lot of ph buffers like ph down u are bound to run into issues in coco if you hand water. This is just my thought seeing how I haven't been ph'ing anything for my veg plants for the past two weeks with no problems.

Thanks for the tips medman I will do my 60/40 mix for my next Grow or 50/50 and do my 1 to 2 plant full coco grows just to get rid of these coco slabs and after this is all used up and I feel I have a method tried and true I'll go to either pre-bagged coco or coco slabs..

I think some of the people saying treat coco like soil were probably using the pre-bagged coco amd maybe that's why they weren't watering to run off with no issues?

Peace mike

Ok so after talking to medman last night and it running through my head all night I decided to hit all the plants today with h202, cal/mag, hydro honey and a aggressive dose of final phase instead of 8ml/gal i went 10ml to break down the nutrients in the soil and kill off some gnats with the h202.

One thing I learned today don't get h202 30% on your hands will burn the shit out of you.

Now I am gonna let them dry up pretty good if I see a very good recovery of the leaves in the next couple of days or sooner I will hit them with shooting powder H&G or big up powder from humboldt only if I notice them rebound if not I will just continue to flush from here on out with hydro honey and final week straight water.

I feel some might drag a little past deadline. If that happens ill make the call for next move after next week and checking the triches.

If they are clear and cloudy I'll hit them with big up or shooting powder. I will only do this if by next week I feel they can go another week so that would still give me time to flush it out as long as I have atleast ten days left to flush.

Peace mike

I hear ya medman and after thinking about it i am flushing from now till finish...

Figured one good dose with final phase will help get the built up salts out of the medium..

So next watering will be hydro honey and water for a week then straight water following week till the finish line no more nutes will be put into the coco....

peace mike

We have S1's

We have S1's

Well yesterday while making some changes in the tent. I cut down some branches off another plant. Not MEDMANS gear to find bananas on the lower branches so were so old that right above the bananas there was a fully developed seed! So needless to say most likely I'll find some S1's throughout this grow.

Medman genetics are solid so far no nanners to speak of cant say the same about the others I was testing. I can't really blame the breeder because I did have some issues this grow. But early on I had no issues and plants were great so that leads me to believe if it had time to create fully viable S1's it happened pretty early in the grow and I didn't catch it. Also the one that popped nanners really didn't show any stress at all really throughout the grow.

So looks like I will most likely have S1's of everything that was in the tent am I disappointed hell no because it wasn't that bad of hermie to pollinate or seed out the whole crop.

So props to medman his genetics so far from what I can see has been stable even with all the stress they have went though.

One of my biggest screw ups with coco also was not letting the plants fully root out in the pots that they were in before I started flooding them with food or water. I should of gave them dry periods so the roots could of filled out the pots they were in first before pounding them with water and nutrients. Lesson learned!

hi mike

i remember, in over 10's of thousands of beans popped, that no matter how "stable" something is, its its from seed tha chance is there.

the rock-star and ladybug bubba, if stresses from nutes, will grow 1 wierd ass branch, with no leafs, then have a tiny cluster of viable sacs just os the tip. i have seen this at a couple different grows with these cuts. its how i got my males for the rock-star projects

anywhoo. thats great. just keep your eyes peeled for more beans in the furutre, as they can be more prone now to throw nanners :)

nothing like having a self sustaining supply of beans. some of my fave kinds of all time we accidental crosses i made in 98-03. just mucking around in my grow

some shots getting close to chop

some shots getting close to chop

You can see some color starting in the leaves of the rks and how greasy and stacked full of crystals these things are.. You can tell that if these plants werent stressed they would of done 100% better...

No no medman i am only taking them for another couple days i am at day 63 right now only planned to go 70 maybe or few days short of 70 just to make sure they are really flushed... Oh and yes medman they are very stinky greasy and sticky i get resin smears all over my finger nails just touching them.. I will most likely pull them this week after they dry out in a couple days just hit them with final phase again today 3 times so far so once the coco dries ill pull them out take pre-harvest shots and pull them...

I figure this week will be good to pull them they have been getting straight water and hydro honey for the first 3 days or week 1 of the flush then it has been water and final phase for the past 3 days in a row at 10ml first use and now 8ml for the past 2.

Final phase claims you only need 8ml during the last week so I think they are plenty flushed now so figure they should be all pulled before the weekend once pots are dried out. Stay tuned for pre-harvest shots I'll probably pull of some of the leaves to show the buds or I might leaves them if the colors are really nice to look at like on 2 of them.

All of them look and smell really really good. I think since I didn't pull clones this run I am actually gonna try to reveg all 3 so I can run them again. The number 2 and 3 are my favorites now. Number 1 was my favorite aka the fav. But I think she is a little to sativa for me I am a lazy trimmer. Lol.

But with that said I will try to veg all 3 so I can get cuts off each one to run again. I would love to see how these would of turned out bigger in size with no stress factors I can only imagine what the resin production and crystals would look like. They all smell very similar very very sweet smells that are pungent one has a little off smell I'll get a proper smell on each one when I pull them out the tent. They are hard to get to because they are in the back of the tent. I'll have the coffee beans ready when getting smells of them because of how pungent they are after smelling one it sticks in your nose for a while.

I can say without a doubt these are the stinkiest plants in the tent.

Edit: number 2 and 3 pheno are the first 2 pics and the last pic, pheno number 1 is the sativa pheno and has the most color pics 3 and 4

Ok so today is another phase of flushing that got done! Today I was sitting around thinking what I could do?

So I got the bright idea let me check my runoff of my plants so I flushed my plants with water to check run off and most plants were coming out 13 to 1400 ppms wtf!! So this leads me to believe that final phase and florakleen is snake oil for coco and most likely soil unless you are running a recirculating system or hydro.

So today I flushed all my plants till my ppm meter read 100 ppm and that's including my water which is 30ppm. So they have a little bit of food left in the coco and in there reserve tanks to get them through the next few days.

So next coco run I will not rely on snake oils to help with getting salts out. I will also feed a lot less and I will not use any ph up or down. For ph adjustments I'll only use humic acid for the down and silica for the up. I didn't realize that coco had such a nutrient holding abilities this is what screwed me this run.

I'll also use a little final phase with every feeding and wait until the root system is built up before I implement a water everyday or every other day schedule with light feeding in the morning and straight water at night ofcourse with cal/mg added if need be. Or I might implement a feed one day water the next and so on or feed, feed, water, feed. I will pay attention to what my plants tell me.

I also don't think I'll run any additives either just base nutrients.

Sorry if I am blabbing but this will be a guideline for my next run with coco slabs.

hi mike

so funny you mentioned that

do you flush regularly?

my buddy ran 800ppm the whole way, no flush and ened with 1400ppm runoff preflush. not bad but, not needd either

i did notice leaf curl and burnt tips on your pics, so thought i would ask but forgot too :)

flushing maybe one oif the most important things to do, in all mediums

if i was you , i would feed, feed, flush with a bloom booster. so they only get a booster every 3 feed. so that way you know exactly what going on, and you still get a 25% salt solution to give an optimal flush

Hey medman thanks for the tips. See I usually would of flushed more but I put my faith in snake oils hands with florakleen and final phase I did do a 2nd week into flower flush. Probably should of flushed a lot more.

I always thought these these products would help with salt build up but I guess not. Another thing I screwed myself with is not rinsing the coco before I used it so maybe that might of been a lot of my issues also.

I know you know your shit with hydro medman so I am sure that you could kill a coco grow also so I am taking my notes and also taking in what you say also because I know you have expierence with this.

The thing that got me with the ram horn thing is that a lot of people said when I looked it up that is was most likely caused my a N overdose. The funny part about it is that I didn't use products with high amounts of N.

House & garden is pretty low in N but I guess the coco could also hold onto it. I was also thinking with me adding all the cal/mg every watering/feeding that I was getting a lock out from that especially since I use my tap water which has cal/mg in it. So maybe the mg was locking out the N or throwing it out of whack?

Next time when I flower my next round of plants I am gonna give them no cal/mg since I use my tap water and see if things change. If I see signs of a cal/mg defiency than I'll use it but only until I notice a slight defiency.

I can say my other veg plants are in straight coco I haven't giving them 1 ounce of cal/mg and only fed them 2 times a little over a month that they have been alive and everything is looking great!!

The first 2 weeks when they were in there cups I got a lockout again from not rinsing the same coco I used to flower. I flushed with tap water no ph up or down and they have been straight since then. I think I have a handle on the coco now and realize a lot of noob mistakes I have made.

hi mike

just use sugar for alt buyild up and flushing in the future. guys in maple ridge use the cheapest thing = icing sugar.

salt toxicty can ,manifest in many forms.becuase lock-out is not far away.

keep your e.c. at 1.2-1.3 the whole way, flush every 3rd feed and use sugar in every feed from bloom to harvest. and buy flufffy coco :) i use ph up and down all the time. dont worry about that. mind you the acid/silica method is suprior

Wow medman I never heard of that thanks for the tip that is cheap enough to get. Lol I'll have to get some.

I think with the ph up and down I am go he humic and silica route just feel its more natural I have been hearing a lot of bad stuff about the ph down not really about the ph up just the down.
