That dope girl is dope! Ha ha ha. Thanks for sharing D9. What do you expect to yield off her?

In an other note, this may be relevant to people setting up their grow, so I thought I'd throw it down here.... my search to setup a nice environment for cheap continues. Firstly, the CAP AIR-2 controller for $105 (black Friday deal):

Secondly, a hack that allows you to raise the humidity rather than lower it:

Not bad, eh?

Flat9, make sure you report back on that timer if you have problems with it in the future. All too often someone posts "hey check it out it's great" then when the thing fails we never hear and the only record of quality is the positive posting. Looks good (digital is a great feature) and I hope you are happy with it long term because we all need more choices/better quality of cycle timers. Thanks.

Sure will do. One thing I neglected to mention was you can set it to operate only on lights on, only on lights off, or 24/7.

Do these larger diameter tailpieces require changes in the pulse feed? I'm wondering if multiplying the tailpiece diameter means the GPH flow for the pumps needs to be multiplied accordingly to get a saturation pulse.

I'd like to use 3" tailpieces on 3ftx2ft trays (8822 SOG beds is the idea) but it seems that this would require massive GPH unless just doing a wave pulse... I have no idea.

I loving my flotec sump pumps. It was one of my grobros contribution to the ppk evolution.

They are right there at the hardware store where your gonna buy the tailpieces and carlon fittings and they are cheap compared to the danners as far as gph goes.
They have fittings to hook up to a hose in the box and if you are using the handy hose manifold, your life just got alot easier. . .you already have it soooo easy tho..
This d9 guy use to abuse us, you have no idea how many valve stems I DRILLED OUT!!!! LOL

Ive gone through quite a few danner imperllers and a few crapped out, last we talked d9 hasnt gone through any. I have a feeling he is a bit more meticulous and on top of things compared to me....anyway
If your smart and ahead of the game and your using danner pumps youll have extra impellers on hand. Especially those of you who are far away from gro supplies. I have an extra pump, but since the flotec sump pumps have been working great for me, I dont see myself buying anything else any time soon.

hey guys, ive read through everything and im wondering how much water does it take to fill up the top bucket from tuff stuff being filled with 8822? im trying to calculate how big of a control res to get by figuring out how much is needed to fill it up. TIA!

if you allow 2 gals per plant you will be ok. you won't use quite that much but it's better to err on the safe side.

Hey D9 what's the reasoning behind waiting 90 minutes between pulses? I've noticed that the 8822 seems a little dry after about an hour... is there a way to optimize the cycle time and what are the criteria for doing so?

DOOD I have been talking about this hack for like 5 years! I have the same contoller somewhere collecting dust. Since switchin to the ppk I havent had much of an issue with humidity but it something I would like to incoporate into veg rooms..

Hey all...

... I set up mine with 8822 and I have a 600 watt HPS between two tubs (about 24" away from the center of the ppk) and put two seedlings in the ppks. Unfortunately, the growth has been slow (it's been about a week and not much has happened, especially compared to RDWC which I was running before). Info:

Temps controlled at 78F
Humidity isn't controlled (yet), but looking for a humidifier (it's def been dry)
EC 1.2 using the 3:2 Jacks, Calcnit
pH 5.8
Originally was flooding every 90 min but the 8822 seemed a bit dry, so now every 45 -- it's always at least moist.

I also have some seedlings and cuttings in 70/30 coco/hydroton in the same room and they're growing at about twice as fast w/ just hand watering once or twice daily using Canna at about 1.2 EC as well. Seems like something must be amiss, as I would expect this system to outperform the coco.

Any suggestions? Other than raising the humidity, I'm not sure what's wrong. But at the very least the humidity issue is the same for the coco, so not sure why it's outperforming the ppk...

these are the same plant from post #1076 9 days later.

so this is about 6.5 weeks of flower.

this cage is 3.5' in diameter. the first one, already harvested, was 3'. i've got another in the room with a 4' cage on it and i like it the best as it looks like i will have to do less tying.

this is a round plant and so is tied on all sides as you see it here. it only took about 30 minutes to do this.

i'm still re-arranging the room for plant and light spacing.

hey, flat9, i really don't know what to tell you about this kind of stuff because i know what i'm doing is working great.

also the device is not finicky or sensitive to anything so if you are not getting results you must be doing something different.

your humidity should be at least 50% and 60-65% is better. i run 84-88f air temperature because i run co2.

i run solution temps at 80-84f because i get the fastest growth rate at that temperature.

i run an air gap of 3" using these containers.

i do not screen the napa 8822 anymore but i do wash the hell out of it to increase the individual particle internal porosity and to increase the air filled porosity of the entire medium.

i flood at 90 minutes as that is where the plants look and grow best for me, in my room, with my environment, etc.

the device is tunable to different environments and plant growth characteristics exhibited by different strains by increasing or decreasing the "air gap" to fine tune the moisture profile in the medium.

it is also tunable for moisture by using the flood frequency.

it is extremely difficult to diagnose problems by remote means so i will ask a few questions to see if we can find what's wrong.

what is your "air gap" in inches?

did you wash the 8822?

is the flood complete? that is, does it totally fill the container at least to the top of the medium?

how long does it take to do this?

how long does it take to completely drain the top container after a full pulse?

what is your water quality?

you are using jack's hydro special 5-12-26 and calcium nitrate with no additives like ph adjusters or bloom boosters, supplements, etc?

what is your solution temperature? cold water slows growth radically.

do you have any pics?

I start with my timer on every 15-20 minutes. Then I move on to 45 minutes as they start to shoot up. 90 minutes is way too long for most of my environments..I have much more air circulation than D9 though I think as i have 2x air exchange and his room is sealed.

RDWC might be faster, but not as failproof.

Your feed might be a lil high for seedlings..

Humidity in coco is much different than in turface, even if they are in the same environment.

Good luck

What about a CAP AIR-1 ? I got more wires. ..lol
