A few things that I've learned about growing in coco with a drip systm DTW

i think this is a great idea it makes total sense "Also if there is a Nitrogen toxicity I cut off some deep green/leathery leaves to take away some of their energy stores. I find they recover to normality quicker when I do this."" i'm definatley going to keep this in mind

thanks

Pick one hgo I'm sure it's in here :D I've got sour og,,afghan kush,Louie, wifi, diablo, alien fire og,and GS Cookies, I think that's it...I use 5ml cal mag per g as they were really mg starved, I pretty much just follow there lead on what they need, I had some vegging in the trays and some in a veg room that got transplanted a week ago I've been seeing roots out the sides of the liners of the transplant trays for a few days so I know they're spreading out just giving em another few days to spread then ill flip. Been watering the transplant trays less to help em thru shock and keep em searching. I had ac problems with one of my mini splits it has stainless steel braided lines that were leaking was a bitch to find and they don't make a replacement so I cut em welded in copper and now I'm good. What is canna trace? I'm really new to coco I used to do buckets back in the og days, retired for 5 years n now I'm back, friends have been swearing by it for years, I love the reusable aspect of beds, rinse, charge and go. I can pretty much tell the sour og and Gsc will be my staples unless something else surprises me :D
Ps what's a paragraph? :pirate:

SureShot, I had to let a lot of strains go from my garden because I was starting to use up more space for my moms than I was using for my flower room lol it was hard but it had to be done, I backed them up with several friends and moved on. Coco is a great medium, I just wish I caught onto it when I started out growing, I hope you hit big numbers with it.

hi hgo, hi folks

i feel very inspired by the info in the first pages of the thread, thanks all!
still need to read through the rest :]

i just started my 1st attempt at coco hempy DTW auto-feeding dripper system, it's a CFL micro grow (beware! lol) in 8 Ltrs container

the coco substrate was covered by perlite to reduce water evaporation:

a dripper ring surrounding the plant is what i installed at the exit:

HotMix clone sits in there and got somewhat trained:

find more details in the 19th page of the rabbit burrow if you like!

Hey, Rabbit. Glad to help and if ya have any questions feel free to post them up in there, I like your dripper ring. How many feeds are you giving, how long is each feed, and how much run off are you getting?

Hi HGO,

have a question about the EC, you say that when you start multi feeding daily you put your EC as low as 1.3... ok but are you talking about nutes EC or real EC(with the EC of the tap water)?
and if it's the real EC, what is your tap water like ?

Hey cox, good to see ya. That EC is my total EC including the 0.3EC of the tap water and 1.3 is actually high, for the majority of veg I usually don't go over 1.1EC including the taps 0.3EC so 0.8EC total. It really is strain dependent though, I let the plants tell me if they can handle more, I find I get better results from plants that have a deep green leaf when going into flower but no clawing on the leaves, I don't want any Nitrogen toxicity when going into flower but I find when the leaves are a deep green they really take off in flower, it just takes tweaking and playing about with the feeding until it's right but there is a thin line between deep green leaves and Nitrogen toxicity. The last thing you want when you go into flower is to be feeding them too much Nitrogen, I switch from Grow nutes to Flower nutes straight away from day 1 flower because too much Nitrogen in flower will make your plants stretch like crazy, bud production will be hampered big time, you'll end up with very leafy, stretchy plants with long internodes, which really don't yield what they could have.

Best coco advice...ever....

Thanks, vta. It actually was originally a reply to a post about growing in coco but when I went to reply I realized that thread was in the outdoor thread, I didn't want to delete my post so I just created a thread here in the coco forum lol.

It works great, guerillataktic. Try it out if ya ever over fed your gals.

Peace all,

thanks bud.... I'm using Canna Coco A&B throughout veg and flower. DO you recommend using equal parts of both in flower or reducing the one that has more "N" in it?

I wouldn't recommend adding different ratios of A&B LED, if you wanted to tweak it a bit you could take off 0.1-0.2EC of the A&B and add 0.1-0.2EC of PK 13/14 in it's place. I do this, from 1 week flower.

Peace,
HGO

Good Lord almost 50k views! You are truly an inspiration HGO. I was lurking on the Vert thread for a while and I'm pretty sure it was your work that finally made me just jump all the way in!

So far, so good!

Keep up the good work!

hi
it is her 1st week now and she's being watered+fed every second day.
only 1/3 nute dose for now (Hesi hydro nutes).

the drippers drip slowly so each feeding takes 50mins and after this time there is some runoff, roughly 100ml.

i intend to proceed with this schedule for around 1 week and then intensify:

1. nute dosages (probably 1/2 dose as next step, then 2/3 and then full dose if she likes it until then)

2. watering/feeding frequency (once a day and then multiple times a day - up to 5 maybe if she reacts well).

glad you like the setup, will get back here with more Qs probably soon :tiphat:

Awesome thanks. I will do this on my next round. You say doing this helps reduce stretch in flower? I've got some pretty good stretch going on this round and would like to reduce that a bit next round.

I grow in coco / hydroton mix 705/30% (+ 2cm hydroton to bottom for drainage) and allways grow from seed. Starting from day 1 i put half strenght nutes and 24/24 light, water 5 times every day with drippers. When there is pair of leaves, i put full strenght nutes and around 10-14 days from start i put 12/12 light and feed them 4 times a day. Never veg more than max 14 days from seed sprouting.

I can say that it works like... well, very well atleast to say. I have tried many growing methods and styles and this is the bets way for me. Never seen before such healthy and vigorous plants.

If you treat coco like hydro, it will act like hydro.

ccoco sounds like something i would want , to water frequent , but how is it on the cost? i've been growing soil , i had alot of trouble to say the least .

Coco is far cheaper in my experience, particularly if you use the compressed Botanicare bricks. Even if you use lose medium, the fact that you are using a 1.5 gallons of coco to grow a plant that would be normally grown in a 5-7 gallons of soil still makes it cheaper.

I am having a trouble getting my roots to go nuts though. Currently, I hand water in veg. and put them on a 2 times a day drip when I put them in bloom and work my way up to 5 times a day at the end of bloom. I have NEVER had roots in veg like the first images from 100goz....Any thoughts on how to get those roots to pop?

Water less in veg especially the first couple weeks after transplant into your final pots. Water like every 3-4 days in the first week. Then every 2 days the second week.

Also try brewing a compost tea ;)

I use H&G actually. I run the Roots Accelerator at 1ml/gal. I water the newly transplanted clones and usually they don't need another watering for 1 week or so, then I water as needed (when they dry out). By the time they are appox. 18" tall I am watering 500ml almost daily (by hand). I have thought of putting the veg room on a drip system as well. I can def. tell that some of the blooming plants don't have well enough developed roots and it's limiting my yields. I am in 1.5 gallon pots (appox 6.5 liters). Thoughts?

Drippers, and don't look back... Even my mothers and vegging plants are on drippers!

How often are you dripping your veg plants? Particularly the freshly transplanted clones? The lowest frequency my times go is 1 min.
