Also D9 when you get a chance, why did you go with the Hortilux? I've seen they have the best PAR ratings but they're also priced four times as high as other HPS bulbs (e.g., Apollo Hort's bulbs ... see Amazon). Given that HPS bulbs usually lose reds after a year, seems like any slight loss in PAR wouldn't make up the difference...

i began using horti's years ago with my mag ballasts and they have performed well but i'm about to have to replace them all and will probably get something else.

i just bought sunmasters for my 600 watt fixtures.

Any reasoning on using magnetic ballasts rather than digital ones?

well, when i bought my first ones digital ballasts did not exist. then there were all the problems with the early digitals.

mag ballasts are like an old truck. trustworthy and reliable.

these are electrical conduit fittings and are found in electrical not plumbing. i have never been in a lowes that did not have them.

if for some strange reason your lowes does not have them you can get them at any local electrical supply store.

I found the male 3" in Conduit but no female, had to get female in ABS

6 weeks to a 36" plant... Jeez! what will he think of next?

gotta say I lmfao when I read that this "thread is overwhelming"....they have it so easy compared to the original thread...try reading that on a smart phone with bad recpetion muwhahahah

Got a strain that looks promising a special cut of casey jones...3x stretch and nugs bigger than 1k bulbs... because of the stretch it over grew the space, which in turn affected yield. We shall see how she fairs this next time around

The original thread would also be overwhelming. ICMAG could make things a lot easier by letting us view more than 20 posts per page. If we could view 100 per page, it'd be much easier to skim through...

No way thats one of the best threads out there imo...

Personally I found it exciting, an affordable, mostly fool proof extremely effective way to grow herb. The ppk has gone through some major evolutions and I think knowledge of those previous "interpretations" are very beneficial for anyones quest to ppk'dom.

honestly, I became a more intelligent grower from reading the thread.

dont get me wrong flat9, I know what you mean, when I first saw overgrow it was overwhelming for me. A page full of words that were all links with strange titles, most of them not very descriptive of the threads content.. I had no idea what to do.. I am dyslexic and I was completely overwhelmed.

Just immerse yourself in it and soon it wont be as intimidating.

One good tip that helped me was selecting the OP's name and clicking "filter posts by ___"

The "filter posts by" thing is a good trick, which I have used. Unfortunately it doesn't let you see the images that poster makes in the results (it just shows up as a "view image" link, no thumbnail).

Btw for any of you running these PPKs and Jacks, has anyone tried their bloom booster? There are a couple of species-specific ones, but here's the description for the classic one:

"Jack’s Classic 10-30-20 Blossom Booster
This formula was recently re-introduced from the popular formula from the 1950’s. Dramatic N:p:K ratio stimulates the plant to bloom and remain in the reproductive state to produce healthy big and dense blooms. Should be used in alternation with a vegetative state formula like the Hydro-Herb or RO formulas to reduce overall plant stretch."

Much respect due to d9 and all the ppk pioneers. It's helped me cut my numbers to a percent of what they once were, with faster growth. And being a compliant legal beagle feels pretty good too!!:thank you:

Hey D9 what do you use for screening out the smaller pieces? I got my tuff stuff tubs and I'm about ready to go, but I need to make the wicks and pick up the media (will use Napa Floor Dry #8822).

Did you just use the gutter screen? Looking for an efficient means to do the screening that is indoor-friendly.

i'm not screening the 8822 now as it flows well without it. just wash the hell out of it.

if you do want to screen there is no way to do it indoors and not get it all over everything.
