Interesting, have you tried the hexane/brine wash with something besides reclaim? The reason I ask is because I did a hexane/brine wash with some dark shatter and was only able to lighten it a few shades, so I am now wondering if I performed it incorrectly, or if this is something unique to decarb'd oil.

Yup, we've cleaned up a lot of material using that technique, but it doesn't come out as yellow as the reclaim did.

It just washes out the chlorophyll and water solubles, not necessarily the darkly colored polar elements.

We've had better luck with those, using a chromatography column. Here is the range of fraction colors. The last dark ones were washed through using a polar solvent, and contain no cannabinoids.

Do you have any more information about the range of colors seen here?

Color on oil can sometimes be attributed to the hairs on the material used. Some strains are covered in brown hairs, others electric orange hairs, these sometimes leech color out into the end product.

I realize this is not a 100% scientific reason for the color differences, but I thought I would throw it out there as many people ignore the hairs and don't think about it.

is it better than puregold?
For those who don't know Pure gold is an extract that is common in CA and I have had extensive experience with it, I have tried many many "batches" of the gold and even the best of the best Pure Gold does not even compare with the worse of the Clear Concentrates.

Clear concentrates has better flavor additives then Pure Gold and by far more potent. Basically clear concentrate exists for people who want consistent quality and don't mind paying a bit more, the quality carried by dispensaries varies even on a day to day basis and its nice to know the Clear is always on the same par as before.

From what I have seen, the Clear flies off the shelves and people love it.

(Sorry for double post can't edit yet)

Not even close to accurate.

I grind and quick soak in butane, and think this has some validity. I just did a run with Gold Dream and indeed the oil is really close to the color of the unusually dense hairs. Compare the yellow/amber color of the trich heads to the orange of the hairs. Yeah, that seems to be mold...

More info please if you have it :)

I have seen this happen many times spraying high quality material.

My product always came out with a hint of the hair color from the material, I know this isn't the scientific reason for why it is the color it is, but it may be one of the variables that can affect the color slightly

I think you are wrong to believe that the hairs do not leech into product on some occasions, sorry we differ opinion, I don't have any science to back up my claim just research and experience, I have read a few threads talking about this on another forum more dedicated to oil.

There might be a link between maturity/age and hair color too which could reconcile both observations. ;)

When running my personal strain harvested prematurely (with white hairs still), I get light concentrate. When running the same strain harvested after 13 weeks (all orange hairs) the concentrate looks more orange.

If the color leaches from the hairs, why is oil from purple weed not purple? Why is all oil not green. The hairs are not a factor. Are you one of the people who would smoke the hairs at the bottom of the bag?

I've seen some nasty green bho before, obviously from extremely improper extraction techniques and very low quality material possibly fresh, but not frozen trim, ran with room temp butane canisters or even warmed butane cans to.

lmao at smoking pistils I had friends back in highschool that would pick all the hairs off of nasty beasters and act like it was the strongest tastiest thing on earth. Always tried to explain it to them that the trichome heads is where the goodies are at, but alas none of them listened. And they continued to enjoy their placebo pistil buzz

I have read many threads about chlorophyll and how butane cannot extract it etc etc yet some products still come out green, however the small hairs on weed that range from white / brown / orange leech their colors much easier then the actual plant leaf(The leaf covered in trichs)

Smoke hairs at the bottom of the bag? I do not get how your mind links to that conclusion... all I am saying is that the small hairs on herb can leech color into end product, I am not talking about their potency or their THC content in any way... lol

Also I have never seen purple hairs on weed if I am not mistaken.
