MLB 2013 SEASON!

Hey Mrs B...Fun thread. Always good, from time to time, to take a break from the "medicated mentality" encompassing all things "green". Been a Giants fan for years. Many years. I remember as a young tykster, my little league teams reward for winning our season championship was being bussed from Eureka Ca to Candlestick Park to watch the Cubs play the Giants. Marichal on the mound, Mays in center, McCovey in right, Jimmy Davenport at 3rd base etc. How could I have known then, the tremendous value of having the honor of watching these later to be baseball legends play in their prime?

Fast forward to today, I cant say Im a devout fan of the Giants, but still a fan nevertheless. It's just in the blood I reckon. I watch every televised game I can, sometimes 3 to 4 evenings in a row, depending on the length of the any given series. I think the reason I watch so many games is yes, its still the Giants, but as much or more, I really enjoy, listening to Kruk & Kype. Those 2 guys are hysterical. Very baseball informed but funny as all get out. And they involve the fans. The 'Gamer Babes" is priceless. If K & K ever caught you at the park, on television Im sure they would say: "Now there's a real Gamer babe..." LOL

Any, bla bla bla, here's the reason for my post. Maybe its just me, but Ive noticed a kind of secrecy shroud, a method if you will, of how the Giants quietly handle large internal player problems/issues. Unlike say, the Yankees who when a player passes gas, it makes the front page news, the Giants on the other hand seem to try to hide news/scandals etc under the center field bleachers.

Example: Melky. A strange deal. There was a point, with the Melk-men (remember them?) in the stands, even being joined by the Melk-maids, those folks had the stadium rocking. Krup & Kype were alwys featuring those semi lunatic guys and gals carrying on, exciting the crowd. They were a huge game marketing deal, even bigger than the Panda, the Baby Giraffe etc. Melky was the A. Rodriguez in the Bay Area. Of course, later on we would learn that the 2 were even more similar than we could ever imagine. LOL And dont forget Melkys MVP status. But then, like a Panda-driven line drive bullet into McCovey Cove, Melky was gone. Where'd he go? What happened? Even Krup & Kype werent saying anything. It took several weeks for us to learn the facts. Oh no Melky, say it aint so...I found the whole thing quite hush hush.

Next oddity: Brian Wilson. This guy was a 1 man marketing machine. Yea, totally quirky but more important, he was a winner. The Fear The Beard masks were everywhere. Television commercials, the works. He goes off for rotater cuff surgery and bam, he disappears. About a month ago, I was watching one of the Giants games and D Kyper mentioned Wilson. I remember thinking: What ever happened to that guy? Is he still in rehab and when is he coming back? Out of curiosity I googled Wilsons name. Holy walk the bases full and give away the game in the bottom of the 10th you moron Mr Machi, what's going on here? Wilson saying this, the Giants saying that, and none of it was lovey dovey, let alone yummy peanuts, popcorn and candy coated crackerjacks, like it was before he went on the DL.. It was so ugly, in the end, Wilson went into a self imposed exile and the Giants org had no idea where he was or so they said...Nobody was saying anything to the media or to the fans- the Giants organization, K & K, no one. Overnite, the Beard had just disappeared! And boom-badda-big, he surfaces more than a year later...as a Dodger.

It just seems that if youre a star for the Giants, they will make you an even bigger star and you may even have your Bobblehead moment in the sun. But it seems if you personally screw up or fail to "play ball" with Giant management, you will be hustled out of town in the dark of the nite like the Baltimore Colts...LOL...I gotta believe the Melk-men and Maids are really bummed, they were surely on their way to Bobbleheaddom...Thanks alot Melky, thanks alot...C

CanniDo, great post......lots of games as a kid at candlestick, great times!!
K and K are THE best announcers out there, when the games on a different channel then Comcast, its so hard to listen to idiots that call those games. We watch pretty much every game or listen on our phones.
Players some and go on baseball teams thats just how it is....Im pretty bummed Wilsons not with us anymore, he was so funny and quirky...
We have great fans..I sure remember the Melk men and women...did ya see the peas???...3 peas to be exact?? hehehe We have only been to one game this season, trying to get to some more before the seasons over!!

Too true Mrs B. When the Giants game is broadcast on a different network, without K & K, the announcers sorely lack the personal connection to the team. The games actually get somewhat boring I think. K & K's great humor, along with their own personal stories of Giants players, past and present make for a much better game, win or lose. Although July and the start of Aug hasnt brought a hec of a lot of Giants joy...on any channel...LOL

Yea, the Peas...LOL. Youre right, the Giants fans are very...ummmm, devoted? CC

Yu Darvish for AL Cy Young. Seriously, when this dude's on (1out from perfect game, near no-hitter) he's completely unhittable (opponent bavg .193). Has a 7-9 pitch command depending on how you count velocity (2seam fastball, 4seam fastball, fast curve, slow curve, cutter, splitter, slider, and change up). Filthiest stuff in baseball. Thank god he plays for the Rangers....

Red Sox in game 7... I think it's going to be a very competive world series. That rookie pitcher for St. Louis.... what's his damn name? The kid dominates. For the Cards' sake, he's still got some gas left.

I'm a real traitor to be rooting for the Sox as a born Yankee, but in the case I'm rooting for the AL East. Let's hope for some more grand slam drama!

Also love the Yankees but rootin' for the Sox representing the AL east as well, I only hate the Sox when they're playing against the Yanks or in a pennant race againt them, which can last 162 games a year :) :)

less than an hour to go.......
