Excuse me... I am still a little stupid with using this forum, and I do not know how to respond to your comment on the picture https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=48389&pictureid=1129148 but in the case of that plant, I think it was most probably a genetic trait, as all other plants growing around it had bright green stems. That was the only plant with a red stem. Often this is due to over fertilizing, but these weren't given nutes except for for natural soil amendments. Unfortunately I have lost these genetics. They hail from some good connections I have up in Swazi land. Great sativas that easily reach 3-4m with some headlifting, glistening, super tasting, pounds yielding bud.

PS, if someone can help me by telling me how to respond to comments on photos in albums I will appreciate it.

im very impressed with the 70w hps security light i got. i bought the 70 dollar one instead of the 40 dollar one because the expensive one came with an aluminum "hood" lets say with the ballast inside and glass covering the bulb, then i drilled 4 holes in the bottom near the glass and one larger hole near the top. over that hole i mounted a computer fan that would suck in cool air from the holes in the bottom near the glass plate which cooled the bulb as it went out the bigger hole and exited the grow space. the ballast was removed from the hood and placed in a old gutted computer power supply



so far so good, ill post pics of the way i did the remote ballast if anyone is interested

so heres how i did my light, if were allowed to say where we bought things ill disclose it, but idk all the rules yet, lets just say it a major home improvement store. removed ballast from light fixture, redo a few wires with OUTDOOR quality extention cords. while we're not talkin a circuit that draws 15 amps, it is better to be safe than sorry. i do not live at my grow location, so that means i must trust my wiring enough to at least know that if it does burn up, it wont be because i used 18 ga wire like a dummy. this particular light draws 1.2 amps. i use a computer fan to cool everything that produces any heat. i feel much safer that way, granted it could still burn out, even running cooler, but i feel better nonetheless.

here is a general pic showing the exhaust duct, inside of the duct mounted on the outside of the hood is a 2.5 inch fan that sucks air through the light. there is also a fan that blows up on to the plate of glass, altogether the 2 fans for the hood make it touchable. i can hold my fingers directly under the bulb on the glass and its warm, but not hot, and before the fans ive burned myself, so even a 70 watt hps gets hot. even with all the fans my grow area was 85 in the day and like 82 at night, since piping a/c into the area i can keep it 75 during the day and 72 at night. i know everyone says 75, but ive noticed more growth when the air is turned down lower

i had to play with how many intake vents, it was really loud until i drilled out enough holes, my setup is hidden, and i have a computer running in the same room to cover up the noise. anyway it works great for me, happy growing everyone

This is my first hydro grow and I made some mistakes with the nutrients. Also, I attempted to veg under the HPS for a few weeks, then bought a 6 bank of T8s to get them to flower, then turned the HPS back on.

Just starting week 7 flower:

Its hard to see from those photos, but what i've realized about the closet is that the 70w lights are too spaced apart. I'm going to move the outer ones inward about 4"

Also, i'll grow about 30 clones next time (as opposed to the 8 this time). I want to spend less time topping/LSTing/vegging, and just shoot up spears -- each plant will just have one main cola. I think this will cut down veg time significantly, there will be an even canopy, and no concern for lower bud growth.

The plan is: once roots establish and the clone is vigorous, veg a month, then flower it out.

- it didn't turn out how I expected. Never got around to the SCRoG and the 70w was almost too much for that small of a space (definitely during summer). Temps were 90-100f.

Its been about 3 years since I built the little cab and now its working as a clone machine for the closet. I think if the root space were only 3-4", the top of the tiny cab could make some nice flowers. In my journal you'll see that I used way too much space and it became a total jungle under 3 CFLs.

Keep it green! ...Then chop it down.

Hi guys,

Two bagseeds grown under 70w CDM.

This one smelled very pungent and has a lot of resin, but buds were slim


This plant has almost no smell, nice and compact buds, but lacked of resin

Very nice! I have three of these same lights and they are worth the $70 for the whole hood/enclosure setup. Though, they get pretty hot after running a while. I was thinking of drilling holes and attaching exhaust - great to see some example photos!

Good morning 70 watters...

I just signed up for an account here after lurking for a few years. I have used a 70 watt HPS from the very beginning. I joined a couple weeks ago and have been busy making my own threads. I am happy to finally get to join the club.

My first cab, The 919, actually had 2 70's in it behind a piece of plexi. I used 3 muffin fans to exhaust and cool the cab. One for the lights, one for main exhaust and one controlled by a t-stat. It was separated into a flower and veg section with the veg on the bottom. I ran a perpetual SOG that worked quite well. I never had it completely dialed in though.




My current cab, The 920, only uses one 70W HPS. This time I put the flower cab on the bottom so my veg section would be a little warmer. This has worked great for taking clones. My success rate went up about 25%. I wanted this one to be more simple so I decided to only use one exhaust fan and one circulation fan. I also made my control box completely separate. It is a 4 output digital lighting controller that I built in a 16" x 16" electrical box. I mounted 4 receptacles to the outside that each correspond to a different output, and one that is always on. I mounted my light vertically as I feel this is the best use of my limited space. Overall it works pretty well. Im going to make a few changes to the ventilation in the next week or so that I believe will make it even better.

Would you accept a newbie to your club? :)
I'm amused by this board, the way people share ideas and communicate! I never thought so many people share the same idea that once happened to enlight me ))).
My path to growing was long and finally ended by constructing a near-stealth micro PC grow. It is a regular PC mid-tower case turned into a tiny (0.04sq.m./0.43 sq.ft.) grow cabinet. I'm going to use a 70W Philips HPS for flowering, though. Hope the dual-flow approach would help to keep the temp down while having plenty of light. During the first few weeks of the new life a 65W blue CFL will be used. Hope to give it a try in the NY's eve.
Haven't chosen the breed yet. Would appreciate any help.
If anybody is interested - can share some pics from the assemble line.
Excuse my poor English beforehand.
