Hello 70w glub.

Here are some pictures of my 70w grow box.

This first photo is my grow box.

And some bud porn of flower day 27. (day 40. 12/12)

Strain is unknown because seeds is are nirvanas indoor mix set. However its grows nicely!

Hi here!
Would you accept a newbie to your club?
I'm amused by this board, the way people share ideas and communicate! I never thought so many people share the same idea that once happened to enlight me ))).
My path to growing was long and finally ended by constructing a near-stealth micro PC grow. It is a regular PC mid-tower case turned into a tiny (0.04sq.m./0.43 sq.ft.) grow cabinet. I'm going to use a 70W Philips HPS for flowering, though. Hope the dual-flow approach would help to keep the temp down while having plenty of light. During the first few weeks of the new life a 65W blue CFL will be used. Hope to give it a try in the NY's eve.
Haven't chosen the breed yet. Would appreciate any help.
If anybody is interested - can share some pics from the assemble line.
Excuse my poor English beforehand.

Four months later my first growing is running to its end.
The strain is Blueberry Auto from DP.
Here is a photo 3 months into the grow that will give you an idea how is the box organised and how the plant look like.

What goals were gained with this box:
- it is actually working! :woohoo:;
- the
- the temp keep in reasonable limits - about [+26*C..+30*C] (78-86*F) at ambient temp about [+18*C..+23*C] (64-74*F);
- it seems to be quite safe with all the precautions taken.

Now about the odds:
- it isn't big enough - the amount of light makes the plant burst into grow about a month from the start. Even the 1.5l pot doesn't prevent the explosion-like growth. The space of the box could be used way more efficiently + LST should have been way more aggressive;
- it is not even close to a stealth growbox - it is noisy as hell due to the LED RGB controller used to dimm the vents (it cuts the current into spikes which makes the motors to buzz); the analog dimmer I had went wrong after on the very first day :blackeye:; now I have a remote control of the vents + nnnoise;
- it looks more like a Christmas tree :biggrin: rather then a PC case in spite of using light traps (which, BTW, proved to be quite effective if done correct); the light escapes through hundreds of small crevices and holes that can't be sealed after the assembly;
- it smells like a dead skunk in hell, happy that the strain's smell is nice and the period of harsh odor lasted just a week or two;
- it would be a desert during the Summer when the ambient temperature will rise 5-7 degrees - 70w of HPS light with plenty of infrared power is not a choice for a hot season.

Instead of a summary.
Firstly, this box not only became a home for a new life but gave me tons of experience about constructing a grow box and particularly a stealth grow box. The dual-flow approach has shown that it is a choice if you opt for plenty of light in such a tiny chamber. If you want to have less than 50w you might not need it and make the whole thing less complicated.
Secondly, it gave me the priceless experience about art of growing and made me love it - I have many interests in life, but this one is something different! I lack words to describe it, but I think microgrowers understand me.

While the Fall comes to my humble personal garden, the Grow Box Ver2 is nearly ready. It no longer uses the HPS light but a set of CFL's with max total wattage of 168W (10K lumens), it is much, much better done, is safer, has a carbon filter and was even easier in construction. The next grow would be performed in this one and I'm thinking about making a report to contribute to the growers community.

Thnx for taking time to read this! :tiphat:

Long time after… Harvest is half smoked, stuff is just amazing!
This wonderful plant in the crappy box gave 1oz (28 something grams) sharp of dense dry manicured buds!
A new plant is nearly 3 weeks from sprouting and doing well in a new growbox. This time it is Stealth. I can’t say is the box running or not when I enter the room where the growbox is standing on a table )).
Here’s a recent photo (sorry for the quality) and a link to the growreport: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=304954

The HPS lamp is a very efficient device but has certain drawbacks. I failed an attempt to make a stealth mid tower atx pc-case with this lamp. I will give it a try in a fulltower later. Maybe 100W or 150W instead of 70, we'll see. The point is to have a 100% stealth grow device, not a smelly Christmas tree that sounds like a hoover.

Grow good stuff!

2x70W HPS cabinet

2x70W HPS cabinet

Hi everyone! I'd like to introduce my cabinet.
It's very cheap, only PC fan (2x12cm plus 1x8cm) but with love and good organic fertilizers I've done this.
They were in coco+soil mix with perlite. From left to right there is two identical phenos of S.A.G.E, 2 clones of ak48 and 2 clones of hashberry X chemdog ibl X superskunk done by a friend.
That's all, hope you'll enjoy the pics.

Nice thread.

I assume it will pick up a bit in the fall.

If you were starting with a new cab. Doing a vertical screen grow with one bulb. Perpetua. What would the ideal footprint be?

Just for a flowering cab. With a very short veg time. Twenty ounce pots.

Just personal stash for a very lite weight smoker.

Same setup of previous post. Soil 35% + Coco 35% + perlite 30%.
Only organics. There are 6 different seeds of medicine man F2, ice x chemdog ibl, DAD (mixed super sativa little diesel), sagexak48 (my own seed), another DAD and northern light (nirvana).
This is 70th day with 12/12. Enjoy :biggrin:

Lovely thread!

What do you think about temperature and smell using 70hps with 2x120mm quality PC fans with DIY scrubber. 1.4ft2

Is it even possible?

Hi!!!
I've read your question only today. I think that you have to consider that any 70W HPS, in my experience of course, could elevate temperature from 4 to 6 celsius degrees. I can culivate only during winter with room temperature from 16°C to 19°C.
I use 2x120mm PC fan (mine are two little performing bastards) for the exhaust air and 2x80mm with flow direct on lamps. With this setup is not difficult to manage temperatures and plants can be placed until 2-2,5cm (1 inch) form lamp. With your little area I think the most difficult thing is to mantain UR% values constant.
About the smell, it is very strong in the last 3 weeks. I used a cheapy ozonizer and it works very well. With DIY scrubber it could be ok, considering the reduction of air flow rate.
Hoping I've been clear. Enjoy your growing!!
When something goes more interesting I will publish my new setup, with the same wattage, but improved grow tent!

appiccicoso: wow I dont think you could have done any better! Let us know how they smoke! It's amazing how close they are to the plants and no burn!

Quick grow/yield report from a few years ago:

70w hps
W x D x H = 40cm x 40cm x 65cm
80mm thermaltake fan, passive intake, another 80mm for air circulation inside the box
u-scrog, horizontal bulb

Strain: Jack Frost (not sure if memory serves, but it was a jack herer derivative), about 70-75 days flower, rooted cutting was vegged for about 2.5 weeks

Biobizz All-Mix with about 15-20% worm castings from my own worm farm (total substrate about 10L), along with a few worms; Biobizz nutrients used very sparingly (applied "biogrow" maybe once, light doses of "biobloom" every 2nd or 3rd watering, just water after halfway through flowering. The clone was put straight into 10L homemade fabric pot (polypropylene landscaping fabric).

This clone yielded many cuttings, and I also trimmed under the screen quite heavily going into flower.

Yield: 67g dried buds, plus another 5+g of very smokable sugar leaf.

That's almost a gram per watt, very impressive result. 2,5 week veg, must have stretched for a while?

Yes, the stretch was quite intense, like a lot of JH relatives. Not having done much serious scrog growing, I thought I would play it safe and make sure less than a third of the screen was filled when I switched to flower. Towards the end of the stretch, I thought I have overdone it to the point of seriously damaging my yield. Turns out it was probably the best possible day to flip to 12/12: the highest buds on both sides of the screen were just 3 or 4cm from the ceiling of the box at the end.

That was my first acquaintance with the strain in question, and with scrog. I guess I got lucky, but I would say my yield in that box could have been improved quite a bit. With a good, familiar strain and a few test runs I think 80g and more would have been possible.

Unfortunately my current circumstances don't allow for any growing... but I think many decent growers could replicate. I believe the critical thing was the homemade worm manure. Then you can influence the elemental composition of the castings. I really loved the shit out of those worms, quite literally :)

those separating things in middle of pots go all the way to bottom of the pots?

trying same thing with seedlings to save space using old credit card cutted to fit the pot ;)

Things that separate pots are plastic sheet bought in brico center. They go to bottom as you've said. I used it because the short vegetative I do for having 6 plants in so small space
Now I have a growbox with base area 60x90 cm and I'm trying to use 6 pots (7 liters each) without them and with same 2 lamps. The problem is that more space leads to less light concentration and plants don't fill completely the pot before the switch. I think that, in perfect conditions, not as this run, differences between 3 separate pots with 6 plants and 6 pots with 6 plants will be quite small. The target is g/W, but I think I'm far away from it...
