How 'bout we let sleeping dogs lie and discuss something more interesting? Just an idea.

This whole thread was designed around the dead horse...had to dig it up to even begin beating it...

Nothing but controversy could have ever been generated by this thread...If the purpose was to gleam why people had not adapted to the "ROLS method" - it has been CLEARLY stated, time and time and time again...

Now, why that answer can't just be accepted - rather than people trying to justify how such behavior was acceptable...well...

i think the thread has serves some useful purpose, it shows clearly from the posts and their approval ratings what the majority of people's perception of the whole thing were.

people have been spinning it one way or another since the drama. this is a good record how most peeps saw it.

hope it doesnt get deleted

It's useful in the sense that it shows how to make corrective measures which would allow others to see the light within the organic section again.

I was a part of OFC...have been a huge proponent of organic gardening for a very long...I was run out of that group by the same people that ran me out of the organic forum in general...once attempts were made to get me banned (my NSPB handle WAS banned, even though it was an account approved by GN himself) - and then I had people telling me it was an organized, orchestrated effort to troll me and make me unwelcome...I just decided to stop posting in the organic section all together.

picture.php

Not to mention - my posts being hard deleted so they didn't even exist when I did make good points in OTHER forums - ALL because someone decided they had an issue with me - so certain people with power decide to abuse that power... All the posts marked N/A just vanished from site - they weren't even in the organic section, but promoted an idea...dare not upset "the movement" - and see how much other people LIKE and +k those posts - only thing wrong with them is they gave proof to their being other ways to get it done. So, yeah...who are the REAL trolls?!?!

It's sad when someone else has success doing things their own way, they become considered a threat. I bet BurnOne knows exactly how that feels when his sticky was pulled down. Why was it pulled down? Because some group of 35 all high off one persons god complex suddenly got to decide what was best for the entire site...and because those in charge lost their sensibility and got sucked into the charade.

That to me indicates the TRUE nature of what ROLS was all about...and it wasn't about helping others as much as it was about promoting an idea to see how much market clout it could muster.

Who else wants to read the attempted article that was drafted for High Times?? - yep. As much as they mocked and made fun of and belittled that publication - they still wanted to use it as another form of creating / increasing market attention...just like they used ICmag.

I decided I didn't want to use a method, that ultimately supported / promoted an individual. Treating people with disrespect and constantly trying to embarrass and humiliate others....it's disgusting. It's the stuff childhood bullies are made of. Oh, so and so can't (didn't) read...or so and so repeated a question...let's all verbally gang rape them. And see, it wasn't just one persons attitude...it was how it INFECTED others that were around it - the FACT, that it was SUGGESTED and PROMOTED to spend time directly focusing on specific members to trash and bash...SeaMaiden and UncleFishSticks are prime examples of people who were INTENTIONALLY isolated and made to feel unwelcome not just in the organic section, but on the entire site...

I've held my tongue for a long time on this matter...and I could say SO MUCH MORE...

But the question asked has been answered - so when are people going to accept the reality of the answer given rather than STILL trying to make it seem as if it is everyone else...

i think it would be better if those who are trying to teach a grow style or method stuck to positive re-enforcement, like i said i think photos are a great tool for capturing folks attention first off.. and then help and explanations that aren't laced with too much ego are good.
what i think is counter-productive, and imo this thread proves that, is slagging off other styles of growing - that just alienates people. Throwing insults at something like bottled nutes is actually insulting everyone who chooses to grow that way - and those who feel insulted are less likely to want to give credence to whatever you're preaching.
hydo stores are just a small facet of the consumerised/convenience society that we live in.
Most of us have a free choice to do what we choose, and those choices should be accepted by others imo. Buying bottled nutes is no different to buying pre-prepared food or paying someone to fix your car, whatever.

live and let live i say.

if you cannot teach without an ego, your not a good candidate to teach

if you truly master something, the mastery in and of it self should fulfill you

a true master is a natural teacher

most everyone is self taught and in process and im willing to bet there is very little real world skill at teaching being brought to the table

and not for nothing people need to stroke each others egos when nothing else in their life is stroking it, a good portion of them have very painful and traumatic personal lives and getting you ego pumped online is a good way to forget about it, even make you feel like you turned the tide a bit.

if you haven't grown long enough to learn this, adapt and grow past it I suggest you do

and to any one reading I suggest a strategy for your drug use

so many people here are emotionally stunted and cant handle their drugs and this is what happens when you self medicate with marijuana and psychedelics without a real understanding of their potential and without a conscious basis for their use

instead of losing egos people hyper inflate them

are you doing drugs or taking medicine? are you escaping or addressing something more? whats the end result you seek?

doucheabaggery?

I will have to admit VG I am guilty of the bottled nutrient dogging.....I should present it in a more appropriate manner. Xmo put it right by saying how many rols growers have bottles sitting on their shelves.......me if I had lived in one place long enough. lol but yes I have went through the bagged material (FF ocean floor) and a few line ups of bottled nutrients. I have always said if you did not use it you have no room to dog it. And again as xmo put it this only comes from experience.........

When I say this I do not mean it as an attack on the person but on the product itself. Not that the products are bad just that there is a more effective way that will benefit the plant AND the grower. It is meant in a helpful way even if it does not come out like that. I am not the best grower nor the most educated among the educated but I do try and lead by example through my shitty photography skills. lol And I mean shitty. Which reminds me I need to buy another camera today.......

And after reading Darc Mind is building top soil......yep top soil, I am waiting on the Recycled Living Top Soil thread..........

So, to sum this up we have top soil growers, bottle babies and ´natural´ soil growers, ROLS growers who have one goal in mind

growing good clean organic bud each in their own respective manner........

puff puff pass...............

Time to move on.

eclipse i don't necessarily intend to defend or justify it so much as give some perspective

to those guys, when the discussion was going on in 2007 it was "new" {though we have all been advocates of lactobacillus}

the whole sea solids consideration is basically a derail in the recycled soil paradigm; if you are having success w/ it, carry on but; it probably has a lot to do w/ throwing away your soil

~i bolded "if you are having success...." because that is what truly matters to each individual as a grower/producer however, it remains true that you are using a different method & that is the gyst of why stan expected to exclude you from that conversation {its not "on topic"}

in this thread; it is on topic ~you are answering the OP directly ~your answer doesn't make sense to me but, that is your perspective & as said, "if it works for you"

Let me say it this way, using "sea minerals" is NOT a "different method" rather--a "different ingredient" that contains all the natural forming elements (like 90+) plus a few exotic ones...almost twice the number found in rock dust products; mineralization of ROLS was part of the discussion.

The babble those guy directed to me and was not about "using a different technique"--it was all about being a "sandbox bully" and egos.

Not saying those guys did not have any growing knowledge, just saying their intolerant attitudes suppressed the flow of ideas and answers. Besides, anyone believing they have a "monopoly on good ideas"...is destined to be doomed--by someone smarter.

Cheers!

BTW--as stated earlier, it is cheaper for me to "toss soil" than to rework it...it has nothing to do with my use of "sea minerals". There are pastures in Oregon with Brix in the 20s...with the owner attributing it to Sea Minerals and fish oil.

i hear you Von - we all have our own pet hates and our own different teaching styles, i think there is not such a hydro store culture in the UK so i probably dont resent them so much, i would/have never visited one anyway for security reasons if nothing else. I understand why people's opinions on bottles are the way they are... especially as many are questionably organic.. but i also think that you 'catch more flies with honey' as someone has already said here.

like you say there are many ways to grow great weed, getting the method right is just as important as choosing the method itself. There is no crime in really believing in the way you grow, i certainly do. we should all celebrate thse differences in the way we grow and learn from them rather than let them be a source of friction. i think there is often things to learn from the way others do things differently.

i people sound kinda foolish they think buying bulk raw materials in a bag makes you any less consumer than buying in a bottle

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5933403&postcount=1

how much of that list did and do you source sustainably and locally?

people who get optimal results using environmental inputs are entirely made from local, natural, sustainable sources are the ones who set the benchmark for organic growing

we all in some way shape or form fall short of that mark in some way shape or form

how you manipulate the environmental inputs to work in your individual case is the relativity and context everyone gets stuck on and it is counter productive

get stuck on the ultimate quality of the product

getting stuck on what people pay for inputs doesn't scream your a success regardless of how healthy your plants look, it really doesn't, unless of course your self sustaining a medical grow with a medical condition and there is no revenue realized and your capacities and or resources are limited

ecologically ROLS is the best choice but I really do question the introduction of trans-located flora and mineral products since they aren't local or necessarily sustainable. This also applies to the growing alien species of companion plants simply because they have a known benefit (one should really find a local similar source)

Everything except the Neem meal.

From a local garden center, Home Depot and several feed stores targeting high end show horses and general livestock. I make my own EWC and compost and collect different wild herbs (yarrow, horsetail, nettles ( 2 varieties) comfrey does grow here but it is invasive so I have purchased the Bocking 14 as not to damage the local flora which is very good here. and the entire area is littered with quarries.....it is one of the largest employers in my area. And well drilling......which uses Bentonite clay........

if you look closely to the first picture the oyster shell is for chicken scratch.

Yep...one of the "best practices" I adopted from the Biodynamics growing discipline is: to make your own (sustainability) and buy local where/when possible (support local economy).

Another great advantages of So Cal living is--if you look hard enough, almost EVERYTHING can be locally sourced.

Cheers!

there you go,my main beef with most rols is the whole united colors of beneton nature of the mixes, organics should locally sourced.having a bunch of stuff shipped in from all over the world so you can sequester all that stuff in your basement to grow some dope is not helping the planet in any fashion...bravo for trying to mitigate some of your share of harm to the planet, but by its very nature growing indoors under lights is not ever going to be a very "green" activity.

were did they get it from

when i mean locally and sustainable I mean locally produced not simply sourced

in a way HD is your hydro store

im not saying the source takes away from the value of what your doing it simply makes the consumer aspect of the argument kludge

even i can see the difference between bottled nutrients and sourcing stuff in bags from feed stores and making your own. the one is supporting the petrochemical industry as well as all the middle men, while the other is supporting local businesses for natural non processed products. the one is made in a chemical factory, the other is harvested by your local farmers. 1 is shipped and travels all over the world or at least half way across the country before you get it. the other is sourced inside a few mile radius of where it's used. so yeah slightly different even for an organics newb.

I have a question for you weird....... do you have a normal garden with tomatos, peppers, melons and things? if so how many of those are JUST indigenous to your local area? Some of them? all of them? or none of them?

Being where I am, much of what I need has to be trucked over from a few hundred miles north of here. I couldn't get azomite, so I had 4 oz sent over from the US, and I did buy two bottles of Plagron Alga Grow and Alga Bloom (organic bottled nutes from Holland) and some enzymes when I was out of town. I figured the AG and AB would be good to use if my plants developed deficiencies in late flowering, and the beet vinasse they contain seemed like a nice additive for the microflora in the soil. I had to take a flight anyway, so I figured they'd make nice souvenirs.

Wherever possible I try to source closer to home, partially because shipping amendments internationally costs more than the amendments do!

Interesting about the sea minerals and brix levels btw, I have some on the way and was going to integrate it into my mix.
