T5's come in 12", 24", 36" and 48"

Im pretty sure the only fluorescent bulbs to ever come in 8' lengths was the crappy old t12's. If I remember correctly they stopped making ballasts for the old 8' T12's.

I don't believe they make an 8' T5. :(
Some killer pics on this page...Makin me drool.
Mine are starting to take off after transplant into gal pots. They seem to be digging the loose media. Hopefully by Xmas I'll have some Chemsisx NH for gifts. :)
Thanks for the great photos--

Yes, I can only find 4ft bulbs with the biggest rack being 8 bulbs.Sunleaves makes the 8 bulb rack, I'd prefer a better brand.I have a nice Hydrofarm 6 bulb rack but they don't seem to make it anymore.Thumbing through the catalogs I'm amazed at how fast things are transforming. It's hard to tell what I'm looking at anymore. There are also many more garden shops than there used to be.It wasn't too long ago that there was only one or two in my whole state.I ordered a 600 hps about 15yrs ago and it came right in the box with the picture and everything so I've driven the 2 hrs since then.I had a feeling that when WW went to court with the DEA after green merchant they had to ship their lamps with the giant picture on the box as part of the deal but I'm just guessing .I know anything from WW comes with indiscreet packaging to say the least.I've found more discreet companies since but now they don't carry Hydrofarm and I've always been a Hydrofarm junkie but I also never had much of a choice!!

If you are looking for a long light fixture vs a 4' t5, they sell 8' 4 bulb t5 fixtures. It utilizes 2 bulbs end to end instead of one 8 foot bulb. It's called a strip light, you'd be able to get one thru an electrical supply house instead of a hydroshop.

They've got them in 4 lamp, 6 lamp and 8 lamp.

I hear ya. I remember back in maybe 1992, ordered some 430 watt setups, a co2 setup, and a few other things from WW. A week later the UPS guy comes by-- I ordered COD. I had the money ready...as I hand it to the UPS driver, he says " its not COD, its been paid for"!!!
I look at him kinda funny as I shut the door and do a lil dance. :) Stickin' it to the WW.:thank you:

I think this one is a Nevilles Haze/ Kangas Mullimbimby Madness. It was a volunteer, and Im not sure what it is crossed too. I did 101 crosses last year, so it could be crossed to anything. Its a KangaMadness Cut, with a good dose of the Nevilles Haze from the Man Himself

I had such great luck with the T5's I might just bank the walls and ceiling with them.I was more than surprised at the quality of the flowers.

Here's some Atomic Blueberry x NL under the T5s.
People can't resist the blue :)

That bud pic is insane Raho!! Looks like a winner. :)
Thanks BL :tiphat:
I had a mixed canopy (as usual) and I ran it a bit hot for that girl as you can see from the leaf tips. These days I try to see how low I can run the nutes.
The whole room had a "purple camphor" smell (is purple a smell?) for a while and I could never tell where it came from . . . until I chopped that girl and it went away. The others all looked as good, but didn't have that smell.
I re-vegged them all after the chop, pending smoke tests, and that girl threw the wildest mutant leaves in re-veg, but grew out of it with serious vigor.
During the reveg, it made a few seeds with stray oBoy pollen that I need to run some day. I didn't keep any of the cuts.

I don't get to smoke out with friends much, but I brought a jar of blue (another pheno), some ortega and masterkush with me to a reunion with some friends. One buddy sat on the porch and smoked nothing but the blue the whole time.
Another dude just HAD to take some of the blue home for his girl.
Seems like everyone has a story of how chicks dig blueberry.
I'm surprised it's not the only strain you can find considering :huggg:

I need to break it out again and remind myself what it's like.
On a short break from smoking so it will be a couple weeks :-(

I'd swear the same thing about girls and blueberry. If I knew any girls I'd try it out on them.:) It was certainly the case 15 yrs ago...I think.:tumbleweed: Has anybody ever tried the VHO T5's? There's an 8 tube rack of 4' bulbs that is 95 watts per bulb, is it just a waste when I could just throw up another 600? The footprint of it seems to suit my needs better than the 600 I'm using in my veg room now.The shop that sells the unit is very close to me, maybe an hour away and I'm tempted to buy one. It's roughly $500.

Myself, I'd throw up a 600w just cause you already have them.
The VHO's look nice, but I just couldn't spend $500 on one, when I see them online for $360.00. I did have one of those fixtures (HO) shipped here a couple of yrs ago, no problem.

Note to self: Blueberry = Pu>>y magnet :cathug:
Thanks for the info!!

On another note, can anyone give me an idea of the stretch I might be looking at with the Chem Sis x NH? I am shooting for 6' plants. I don't want to over-do the veg too much...

Thanks BL :tiphat:

Hey Slip.
There was a great thread on T5VHOs on another site. The grower had a well dialed in system growing 4x4 beds filled with AK47 cuttings SOG in soil.
I have not used the VHOs, but I will share the conclusions of his test.

VHOs produce more lumens
HOs

produce more lumens per WATT (more efficient)
VHOs produce significantly more heat

His test showed almost identical results. The yield of the VHO was slightly higher. He admitted that with their lower running temps, he could have run the HO's closer to his canopy than he did and that probably would have improved the yield to almost equal the VHOs.

He was going to run them again to check results running closer to the canopy but I never saw that.

Higher lumens in the VHOs translates into a few inches more penetration. Billy Liar and I have discussed effective growing depths of the T5HOs in depth.
Our experiences are the same. Capable of making solid bud from 12 to 16 inches away from the tubes. Below that, structure opens up.
I figure VHO's would take that to 18 inches.
He built his SOG systems around 12 inch colas.

Running cost of the VHOs is higher (power, tubes and fixtures.)

The conclusion I reached was that HO's are the bang/buck king of the floro world.
If heat is no problem, see if you get the price down to the same as T5HOs.

Just stick with the Ho's, Bro.
:dance013:

One more thing. Bcause the VHOs are not a popular light, and you won't have the selection of tubes you would with HOs.

If I were you I would buy another HO T5 as it has less heat and put it side ways on your plants instead of just on top. Surround your plants with T5s, some are actually made to do this.

:thank you:That's exactly what I intend to do is cover the walls and ceilings with T5's and have the whole room lit up.The small grow I just ran with 10 T5 bulbs gave me around a half a pound. The yield doesn't concern me as much as the experience. The plants I grew under the T5's were ideal, most were similar in structure to a Sour Bubble, rock hard buds of various colors that didn't need as much light as a haze would, plus they were all maxed at 3'.I'm dead broke at the moment so I won't be buying anything too soon!!:) There's a basement full of old hydro/grow gear I've tried over the yrs right below me, I have a nice big aero cloner I bought just to try it, things like that.
I can root just as well with rockwool and spring water but I need to keep my mind busy and I can't read all day everyday so I thought running a T5 room might just entertain me.
Born Loser, I would flip those plants at 20" or so because they can grow mighty big.:)

Damn Slip !
I thought I was talking you OUT of the VHOs, and all you heard was "More lumens" :woohoo:

You shouldn't have any trouble doubling that yield if that matters to you at some point. 1 GPW is achievable/beatable. Billy and Heath were at 1.2 with their optimized SOG.

T5s are very versatile. Depending on the type of strain, it may make sense to do SOG or SCROG (depending on how stretchy they are.) These methods work so well with the T5 because they are not a single point source of light like HIDs. Yes, you only really light things up well for 16 inches, but in that 16" depth, there are no shadows. The light comes in from all angles and can easily defeat a canopy that would foil an HID. With a single point source, shadows are a big deal, so you wind up leaving more space between plants.
Bigger spaces use multiple lights to reduce this issue of course, but the advantage of the T5 is still there.

Covering the walls with T5s like you are describing is a dream of mine too, and would be perfect for your tendency to grow a single GIANT bush every now and then.

I don't have enough airflow in my space to keep it cool though, so I won't be trying that any time soon.

If you do that, consider breaking down the light fixtures to optimize spacing between reflectors/tubes around the room. It may take fewer tubes to do what you want than you would use just lining up big fixtures side by side. Hell, you could even just order your own Fullham Racehorse ballasts, sockets and make your own. That's the way I would do it.
I think that 1000lighbulbs site sells them. Local electrician or lighting supply guy could probably order for you.

Another thing I know you are liking is the fact that you can work around them with the light on without dark sunglasses/welding goggles.

I am really happy you found the quality is there with T5's. Sure was nice to look at from here. :)
