Yes. Espoma. Don't worry about the plant it says it's for, like tomatoes or whatever. Just look at the formula. If you buy more soil, use the MG organic. Good luck. -granger

Wally world 100% organic super soil "This soil will out perform any bagged retail soil .Just about ;)"

Per bale of peat

1 Bale of peat 7$ Walmart (garden center)
1 bag of perlite 4$ Walmart (garden center)
1 bag lime 4$ Walmart (garden center)
1 bag Espoma biotone starter plus 4-4-3 (NPK) or tomato tone 3-4-6 (NPK) 5-10$ Walmart (garden center or maybe inside) Both work great (bio tone has more bacts)
1 Bag Epson salt 3$ (optional) Walmart (meds and pill section)

(Mixing)
Pour bale into a empty 32 gallon or larger trashcan/kiddie pool/tarp (Wet it down good but not flooded) ***1-2 gallons of water per can works well, peat is super dry most the time***

pour bag of perlite in and mix evenly to the bottom .
Use your hands and dig deep to mix really well.

Next put 1/5th a (dry) cup of lime or wood ash
(Make sure no gas or nothing was used to start the fire if going ash)
Mix until mixed in even

Next put in 1/5th cup of Epson salts (optional) Helps with Mg late to mid flower

Pour in 4lbs of biotone or tomato tone by Espoma
(This is all organic fert and it comes mixed w/ endos and ecto, myco bacts)

*** Mix this even into the soil . ***

Getting everything mixed even is the key to a good soil.

This soil is proven and been used by my dad for bout 2-3yrs now

Only use water if u wanna . Or u can dose ferts at low doses if u like in bloom.

Things could make this soil better are
"Doubt u will find these in walmart"

1/2 lb of bloodmeal (walmart)
1lb of bone meal (walmart)
1/5th cup kelp (local nursery)
10-15lbs EWC Castings (local nursery)
Pinch of humic acid (source this online or maybe good local nursery)
Pinch Azomite (source this online or maybe good local nursery)
spoon full of a mycos ie (great white)

This should make u enough soil to fill 1-2 * 32gal trashcans (fill many pots with this)

Seal the cans up and wait a couple weeks - 30 days out in the sun soaked and sealed for best results. As long as its sealed it will keep forever and compost down. If u dump the soil and turn it over a few times and restore it back in the bins. It will speed the process up

U will see a web form from the bacteria and goodies from the espoma on the top of your soil with in 12-72hrs . When u do u know things are on the way to becoming ready for growing

The old man got tired of making subcools soil. 1hr trip one way to hydro shop. So we started playing with mixes of wally world products.

The old mans mix is as follows (Uses water only) *** NO ferts***

Healthy rooted clones or 30 day old plants go into this mix. "This will burn seedlings and fresh rooted cuts". Wait atleast for nice healthy rooted cuts 2-3 inch bushy roots before planting into this mix

25-30lbs EWC
4 bales of peat (wanna say 12 cubic feet)
6 bags small bags perlite
2 bags of Bio tone plus Espoma - 4-4-3
2 Bags of Tomato tone 3-4-6
2lbs Bone meal 4-14-0
1lb Blood meal 10-0-0
1/2 cup Epson salts
1/2cup Kelp 1-0-2
1/2 cup Lime

Veg beer cups to 5 gallons then with 45-60 day veg
Bloom he uses 7-12 gallon pots : 63 day flower 4- plants per 600w HPS

good morning bosshogg,

you're getting some really good advise in here. Yes, kelp will help with the micros a lot.

make sure it says "kelp" and not "seaweed".

Compost is really important too, it'd be a good idea to top dress with quality compost... Looks like you may be somewhere in the south, if you can find Black Kow compost it's a little better than most because it's made mostly from dairy cow manure. A lot of bagged compost from big box stores is not much more than aged timber industry left overs.

here's a link that can help you to find quality compost in your area :

DO NOT PUT SEEDLINGS INTO THIS MIX (Recipe above)

. Read below

We start with a seed starting mix until 20-30 days old in beer cups. *** Seeds only***

U could keep a small bit of the bale and mix a 5 gallon bucket with .
This will allow u to fill quiet few beer cups from 5 gallon bucket of self made seed starting mix

70% peat moss
30% perlite
1 Tablespoon lime

This is what we use to make a seedling mix

Yes im the king of walmart growing .This is thanks to my dad
not wanting to goto hydroshop .Which is a 2hrs trip just being on the road.Myself I do hydro but I keep him going also in a all organic setup

1 gpw with 60 veg / 60 day flower easy in 10 gallon

Seedlings beer cups (until 21-30 days old)
5 gallon buckets veg 60 days
10 gallon potter 1 week before flower

We pull 4-7 oz per plant with 60 day veg

Top them young
Top again wk before flower "after transplanting into 10 gal"
Lollipop
Flower

miracle grow? seriously? i don't think that was your only option if you've paid attention to any of the stickied threads at the top of the page. if your serious about your growing and want to grow on the next level, ditch the MG and hit the books.

peat
lava rock
earth work castings
compost

for a starting mix and you're done.

seems like liquid karma was just mentioned in the organic forum recently as well

is there really a delicate way to say these things?

myself; i can't feel confident that MG has "seen the error of their ways" & is now marketing a truly organic product ~maybe they are?

you can grow some mighty fine looking smelling smoking & tasting product w/ a chem regimen ~it's likely much of what us older guys have smoked over the years

today; i feel like the less i buy from the store {particularly a specialty market w/ outrageous markups but also from idk say wally world for example} the better

making my own compost and feeding it to my own worms to use those ingredients in a potting soil i mixed from as scratch as i can find makes me more confident that my end product is a healthier choice

similarly; i like to use alfalfa, yarrow, dock, comfrey and other dynamic accumulators from my own field as "food" for my garden

i may use some store bought stuff like neem seed meal and kelp meal which just isn't available in my area ~so i dont want to come across as too self-righteous

but my mix is likely much less expensive than a MG mix & i definitely feel more confident about the inputs

Phil is rockin' that MG mang.

I came here to mention that I've seen some MG grows that were great. But he showed us instead.
