for those of us having trouble finding the calcined clay(just me apparently) all the auto parts stores sell it as an oil absorbent. they have the clay version as well as the diatomaceous earth versions. im just gonna get whatever they have in stock and go from there. measuring up all my tubs and stuff right now. making my marks for my holes.

i am tempted to leave the laundy tubs whole instead of cutting them down for a couple reasons. first is i hate to hack away st something i just bought lol and the second is i dont want my wife finding bits of plastic all over the damn house haha.

D9 simply hangs his water supply over the edge and uses a C clamp to hold it in place. i plan on drilling a hole in the side and using the two 90 degree pvc elbows to lock the pipe in the hole so it doesnt move. only danger i see is tripping on a hose and pulling a plant down, but then again that is a possibility for any PPK user. tomorrow is my day off and im going out of town in a week. i need the new system up and running before then so i can set it and forget it for a couple days.

Probably the next post I make will be my first grow thread (vertical 1k hps and in turface ppk). But before I do that I'll need to ask a few questions, get some pics, and post some stats. As a first timer I wouldn't know if I was headed for imminent failure unless it was too late or someone saw something in my numbers I'm going to post. I see what prior recommend for ph in soil or hydro and it just baffles me... And I dont know if it applies with turface.. So here we go:

Oh I'm using the cheapest Chinese pH pen and an hm digital ez tds tester. Dirt cheap. Ph pen should be accurate and calibrated. Waiting on nacl solution for the EZ tester (everything locally available is KCL based). Let me know if I should get a better ppm tester. The material mentions a .44-.56 NaCl scale, whereas there was a .51 KCL variety mentioned as an alternative. Sounds close at least.

My water out the tap is 15-20ppm. It's pH 6.0.
4.9 solution ph in pump house, couple days ago I thought it said 4.6

Flooding every 60min, using turface.* Using 5-12-26 Jacks, 15-0-0 calciium nitrate.* 360ppm jacks, 240ppm CalNit.

Hey DH,
What happened to your RW Flock grow? did it not work out to your expectations?

my shit was rocking man. bulk rockwool is the shit and by far the easiest hydro method since it acts very similar to soil except for ph range. even DJM said from the get go that bulk rockwool was second in speed only to active hydro such as dwc or ppk. im an active hydro fan but i am still running lots of bulk RW in my smaller tent. my plan is to use ppk's for my 4 big trees since it grows super fast and my bulk RW for my remainder 8 plants in a 1k vert donut.

im building my first ppk right now so i will start my own thread right now. i wanna thank everyone for putting up with my questions lol. feel free to come drop some knowledge on the thread next door :)

Desert Hydro; If you snugged that unit into a plastic trash can you might have a kick ass system.

yeah but i would need a 15 foot ceiling in my room haha. i just finished all my bulkhead installs. sealed them with aquarium silicone since they leaked without. gonna let them dry overnight then setup tomorrow.

while cutting my tubs down with my dremel i notice a bad smell and then my dremel stopped and proceeded to catch fire in my hand lol. i will miss you my friend :)
i then finished up with a razor blade and it did quite well. very easy cut, u just have to do it a an angle.

still have to cut the holes up top for the feed lines going out of the res but i am gonna do that tomorrow. i still have to hand water everything tonight and i work early :(

I did that with a drill last weekend making bubble hash. Nothing like sparks shooting every where with about 30 gallons of water and ice. Had to make a run to get a drill to finish.

Its too bad nobody with experience told you to use a bigger drill... :moon:

If there is a Northern Tool store near you their floordry of the "low dust" variety is Montmorillonite clay and has 10% silica in it. Great stuff. The cheapest stuff they sell at O'reilly's auto parts is the same stuff. To remove most of the dust I set up a big tote on the ground, a box fan on my back porch and pour the floor dry into the tote letting the fan blow the dust away. Just get the fan speed right and pour at the right rate. Works awesome. I used the Fullers earth version for years and have come to the conclusion the Clay type is much superior. The O'rielly version is called Moltan Thrifty-Sorb part #40.

Overkill`s underrated...especially with power tools....A cheap jigsaw with a fine tooth blade`s the best tool for cutting plastic unless as yas said it`s thin enough ta cut with a razor knife.....now.....

Dremel`s are John Q Consumer hobbyist toys at best , butchas can do buncha things with em and that`s why they`ve been so popular over the yrs.......for small shit projects.....

Big shit......Get "Ridgid`s Job Max" multi-tool , but it won`t perform like a roto-zip or Dremel , and that`s where a cheap jigsaw comes into play if needed....anyways.....

Welcome to the dark side DH.....We do shit different round these parts , but it`s worth it in the long run IME.......bet on it.....

Good luck and Holler if we can help......

D9........You aight my buddy ?.......

Peace....DHF.....:ying:......
