OK its 2013 now. We planned our trip back to cali agen. woo hoooo. but this time we planned much earlierin in the year... ya know for the better deals and such.

This time we are definitely going to the 17 mile drive and will be stopping every where all the way to pebble beach. Is the monterey bay aquarium worth going to. where is the best place to eat dinner in eather carmel or big sur? what about going to a winery for them tastings. I am a photography hungary guy, so where is the best place for great photography in big sur/carmel/Monterey?
so we will be in the carmel/big sur area for the whole trip but the last day we will be leaving late at night like 11pm or so from SF airport.

so what should we do in SF on our last day of the trip we have the car until 9 or 10 pm.

another good tips would be grate. because yall have live there now and or before so ya know the best stuff to do while there...

We plan on doing more and longer hiking in the mountains and at Andrew Molera State Park and other parks.
we r staying at vacation by owner up in the big sur mountains. woo hoo.
last year we stayed in 2 vacation rentals by owner one in carmel by the sea, in a little cottage then in Sausalito on a house boat. very fun times. and when it was time to leave CA to come back home to TX, my eyes flooded the boat. :_(
She said theres al ways next year.

too bad I won't meet any of u ICMAG cali ppl on my vacation.

the Chinese food is supposed to be awesome in SF, not a Chinese buffet mind you but the traditional SF style; NY mostly features of Cantonese or Szechuan restaurants, idk which style is prevalent there but either ask some locals or check Yelp. gotta eat right?

There are lots of photo ops along 17 mile road and along Pacific Coast Highway. I saw sea lions, a few seals and some dolphin when I went about a month ago. Binoculars are helpful along a couple stops. I'd start on the north side and wind south for the best views.

Yelp (app) was our best friend on the trip... a buddy had given me some recommendations but our tastes are a little different and I'm adventurous enough to try something new. Brophy's Tavern in Carmel was great, surprisingly the food was some of the best we had. Some locals had recommended Hula's Island Grill in Monterey in the Cannery Row.. was pretty damn good. Didn't go to the aquarium though.

If you travel Highway 1, there are some really cool beaches between Davenport & Santa Cruz. Ask someone where Hole in the Wall Beach is. You'll love it.

In San Francisco there is an Italian restaurant called Original Joes. Absolutely fantastic. They have one in San Jose, too.

Also: You MUST go to TOGOS for their killer-diller pastrami subs. I guaran-fucken-tee you that you have never had such good pastrami or bread before in your life. Never. They are the top dogs.

And drive legal. No driving whilst stoned. No toking in the car. I'm telling ya, them Cali cops have a sixth sense for stoners in cars. I shit you not!

safe journey and great trip,,i loved cali,stayed in laguna but just went to universal,watched a lot of movies and smoked a lot of sativa,went to the beach,got lost in la and had some cops take me back onto the pacific coast highway towards home ,if i remember rightly,lol must say cops were very helpful,,

I have a question for ya. So as long as I don't drive stoned or smoke in the car I should be ok right, and if the herb is in the luggage in the trunk of the car. + it wouldn't be anything more than a few grams anyway...

Yelp! is an amazing app...definitely download if you have a smartphone. Very helpful whenever you're just trying to get a quick snack or find something fun. The reviews are also very helpful, also some restaurants list their menu's!

Also gasbuddy is a good app, why pay $4.19/gallon when u can drive another 5 miles and get it for $3.65?


SF....go to twin peaks and/or hippie hill. Amazing views from Twin PEaks and not too far from the hill. The hill's a fun area to have a smoke and meet some random people probably doing the same as you lol

Shit tons of good foreign food in SF. Indulge yourself. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, "american", "healthy american" as I like to call it, amazing sandwiches, great persian food, some really good Italian places. SF is very health concious but the food is still delicious.

I guess you're staying more coastal, i'm more inland so that's about all the good info I can give ya.

17 Mile Drive kinda sucks. You can see same stuff for free. Monterey and Pacific Grove are touristy and restaurants are hit and miss.
Spend time in SF and Napa/Sonoma IMHO.

Either you've never had a Togos #10 (or the one with sauerkraut) or you simply don't have a taste for killer pastrami.

I've been all over the world, mate, and Togos has one of the very best pastrami's available. Their bread is extra special, too.

San Jose Little Vietnam Town. - Get a bowl of ox penis soup and wake up like a teenager for three weeks.
San Fran - Boccalone Meats Tasty Salted Pig Parts, Hog Island Oyster Co, Acme Bread, Cowgirl Creamery, all in SF Ferry Building. We go to farm for oysters but the restaurant is awesome too. We usually grab cheese, bread, meats, and some Pride Mt Cab Franc and drive over hill to secluded San Mateo county beaches for a picnic. Salmon season is also in full swing if you like fishing so maybe a charter trip out of Pillar Point would be fun, you can see and smell whales and their farts.
Napa and Sonoma. We grab meats, cheese, and pate from Oakville Market and head to Mondavi, Silver Oak, Frogs Leap, and Joseph Phelps. Great food up there too. I really like the ostrich at Auberge du Soliet.
Marshall - Drive out to Hog Island Oysters and buy bags to shuck and grill yourself.

may be a little south (not too much) of where you are going to be but Paso Robles has a ton of vineyards almost all of them with tasting rooms... plus you could do the drive down Hwy 1 from Monterey to get there, tons of photo ops of course, Hearst Castle, there's an elephant seal beach, etc along the way.

I liked the aquarium, yah its like one of the top tourist things in Monterey and a bit pricey if I remember but its something fun to do. I know there are lots of vineyards around Monterey/Carmel too I just am not familiar with them.

OK so Im back from my vacation to California.

It was another gr8 trip but too short as all ways.

First we stayed at the fern woods logging in big sure. that weekend they had a gr8 70s style rock band and they rocked the house for 2 nights. the 23ed and 24th. they have 3 kinds of sleeping places. camping, motel, and cabin with hot tub.

we stayed in the motel.
then on the 24th it was off to the mountain place for the last 6 days. We stayed at a place way up in the beautiful mountains in a Rustic paradise 12 miles south of Carmel in north Big Sur, east of Hwy 1. A 5 - 10 minute walk up the mountain, zigzag trail through redwoods took us up a sunny slope with lush gardens and charming, unique multilevel dwellings created by Big Sur artist/carpenter/gardener/owner/resident Don L#$*.

We Renewed and refreshed our self's in the natural environment with spring water, ocean, sage-scented air, and simple amenities. Enchanting hillside gardens provide many places to relax and enjoy the views above the redwood canopy alive with humming- birds, bees and butter flies

Unconventional and without a commercial gloss, this is a place to experience the Big Sur lifestyle. The amenities included cookware, and everything else and complimentary wifi internet access.

Carmel and all its refinements were only a drive away and the Big Sur valley was just 20 minutes away. We enjoyed the paradise off the beaten path. the view was so so so so dam beautiful. don was such a nice person he provided us with everything we needed. his many gardens were beautiful and healthy. He even gave me with some buds. we stayed at his place for 6 days.
we went to point lobos, and a lot of other beaches off of Hi way 1.
we went to carmel beach which was nice because the weather was much nicer than last year which was cold.

ALSO the all people in in the big sur, and carmel area were so nice to us. yea.

the trip was a very nice trip. and because it was so short we plan on taking more vacations but like weekend vacations until next year.


I half to find anyway I can to move to the San Francisco to live. so I can drive to big sur every weekend. + I feel like I could live a longer healthier and morte stress free life style..
