Putin will not give Snowden up IMO, unless Obomba offers Victor Bout in exchange.

Russia has a history of holding onto "pawns" that they'll give up when it's advantageous for them to do so. If Snowden has the insight I think he does, he already knows he needs to get out of there.
Interesting that protesters in Germany want the government to give him asylum. Guess once you've lived it you can see the dangers of what the US Gov is doing more clearly.
If he comes home either by extradition of on his own, he'll meet a jury stacked against him and be tried by a compelling arguement that he broke national security laws in the court room. Legally, by releasing national security secrets, he has broken federal law. Even though he has exposed the gov for the corrupt motherfuckers they are, it would be hard to find a jury that would side with him on the issues. Maybe not. Jury nullification would definatly work in his favor, but that is realistically a long shot.
I hope he finds a great host country in which to live out the rest of his life without fear of extradition or assassination attempts.

Lawmakers Who Upheld NSA Phone Spying Received Double the Defense Industry Cash

thCALU1ZM5_zpsdfafa876.jpg

The numbers tell the story — in votes and dollars. On Wednesday, the House voted 217 to 205 not to rein in the NSA’s phone-spying dragnet. It turns out that those 217 “no” voters received twice as much campaign financing from the defense and intelligence industry as the 205 “yes” voters.

That’s the upshot of a new analysis by MapLight, a Berkeley-based non-profit that performed the inquiry at WIRED’s request. The investigation shows that defense cash was a better predictor of a member’s vote on the Amash amendment than party affiliation. House members who voted to continue the massive phone-call-metadata spy program, on average, raked in 122 percent more money from defense contractors than those who voted to dismantle it.

Overall, political action committees and employees from defense and intelligence firms such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, United Technologies, Honeywell International, and others ponied up $12.97 million in donations for a two-year period ending December 31, 2012, according to the analysis, which MapLight performed with financing data from OpenSecrets. Lawmakers who voted to continue the NSA dragnet-surveillance program averaged $41,635 from the pot, whereas House members who voted to repeal authority averaged $18,765.

Of the top 10 money getters, only one House member — Rep. Jim Moran (D-Virginia) — voted to end the program.

“How can we trust legislators to vote in the public interest when they are dependent on industry campaign funding to get elected? Our broken money and politics system forces lawmakers into a conflict of interest between lawmakers’ voters and their donors,” said Daniel G. Newman, MapLight’s president and co-founder.

The Guardian newspaper disclosed the phone-metadata spying last month with documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

The House voted 205-217 Wednesday and defeated an amendment to the roughly $600 billion Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2014 that would have ended authority for the once-secret spy program the White House insisted was necessary to protect national security.

The amendment (.pdf) was proposed by Rep. Justin Amash (R-Michigan), who received a fraction of the money from the defense industry compared to top earners. For example, Amash got $1,400 — ranking him in the bottom 50 for the two-year period. On the flip side, Rep. Howard McKeon (R-California) scored $526,600 to lead the House in defense contributions. He voted against Amash.

Of the 26 House members who voted and did not receive any defense financing, 16 voted for the Amash amendment.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) voted against the measure. He ranked 15th in defense earnings with a $131,000 take. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) also voted against Amash. Pelosi took in $47,000 from defense firms over the two-year period.

Ninety-four Republicans voted for the amendment as did 111 Democrats.

The Amash amendment was in response to the disclosure of a leaked copy of a top-secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court opinion requiring Verizon Business to provide the National Security Agency the phone numbers of both parties involved in all calls, the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) number for mobile callers, calling card numbers used in the call, and the time and duration of the calls.

The government confirmed the authenticity of the leak and last week suggested many more, or “certain telecommunication service providers” are required to fork over the same type of metadata. The government says it needs all the data to sift out terrorist needles in a haystack. The program began shortly after the 2001 terror attacks.

The vote list follows. (A “no” vote is a vote to continue the NSA’s phone spying.)( list at the website)

yes, very telling; who voted for and against this amendment. those are the beginnings of a list. ideally this list of names will be spread far and wide under the heading of traitors to the constitution and the people who need to be voted out of office and investigated for taking bribes or getting blackmailed. either way they need to be exposed for the tyranny supporters they are.

If both parties are owned by the same industrialist...why do some people..still believe that their votes will change the situation?

The reason why all the hoopla over this issue...or politics as a whole..is not important: votes are bought and sold...with absolutely nothing to do..with the will of the population

This dude will end up being sold out...and hung up. It will quiet down...and things will continue on. That is the reality....so now what?

Nothing. Crickets. The world will not end....and soon enough...there will be something else to freak out on

Aint about freaking out to some of us, its a gasoline covered floor and all it need are some sparkles to hit it.

..But to quote Huxley
"
“In regard to propaganda the early advocates of universal literacy and a free press envisaged only two possibilities: the propaganda might be true, or the propaganda might be false. They did not foresee what in fact has happened, above all in our Western capitalist democracies - the development of a vast mass communications industry, concerned in the main neither with the true nor the false, but with the unreal, the more or less totally irrelevant. In a word, they failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."

I wouldn't hold my breath. They said the same thing about the pentagon papers. When was that?....mid 70's...been hearing this shit all my life...and still...here I be...here we be..same shit...different decade. A proven formula...well thought out...well applied

I do believe...many of you...would love to see it ignite...but that's just misplaced bravado. No money gets made doing that....and money is the end result of everything...in a consumer based world. You/we are consumers...like it or not

Stop consuming...stop standing in lines...and maybe..you/we earn some credibility. If every individual would make it a point to stop feeding out of the trough...they might find...a more productive path...find a little solace. Action...not words..application not unrealistic goals. We have to do it for ourselves...not wait for some political idiot...to hold our hands (as they slice the wrists). Start with a Food Revolution first...and see where we are after that happens...break the bonds of process..straight out of the ground

the point is not to vote dem or rep, but to vote for good people of either party, start by voting out of office these scumbags on that list. it's all the power we have and if we don't play the dem or rep game, but for or against individuals on issues something can be achieved.

You can not do that....unless I missed something in the last 200 yrs. There are no good people in politics....sociopaths and egomaniacs are what you always find. Every man has his price. I don't blame them...someone has to do it.

People need to be led. Leading requires one...to be ruthless. Ruthless people are never not...at the top. You can like it...or not...but that's how it is

Yup.

The common goal they all have is greater access to OUR money to further THEIR personal gain.

Sadly, unlike a few centuries ago, there is no longer any place to go to find refuge from these shit-stains.

At least the flavor of misery changes every 4-8 years, and sadly, methinks that's about the best we can do as a species.

3rd parties. The only way we'll ever get this country back is voting anyone and everyone with a r or d after their name out of office. I don't care if it's Independent, Green Party, or the People that Eat Dog Shit Party. Vote the bastards out. let them know we aren't putting up with the shit anymore and that we, the people, do have the ultimate say if they keep their job or not. Thing is, too many are willing or could care less about what our country is/was based on and will continue to drink the red or blue koolaid every time.
Wishful thinking I guess. Back to my pipe dream.

I actually voted for a president one time...1988 ron paul libertarian...same old guy...with the same old lines. If this is your answer....disappointment abounds

I get where you're coming from, Jericho, I guess it's just a matter of HOW disenfranchised you've become. I know that this most recent Ron Paul fiasco has me questioning whether or not voting really matters anymore. The media steer the sheeple in the direction that their overlords want... It's a polished routine, and it works. I voted Ron Paul this time around, but I question if he ever even wanted the job. My gut says no. Rand Paul? I'm not so sure either. Hope and Change, right?

voting is preferable to being shot, once you understand how the government works you realize, that is in our future once this economy collapses.no food revolution is going to stop it.

Capitalism Is Anarchy = Anarcho-Capitalism

rand is turning the tide and picking up where his dad left off, toward freedom as opposed to slavery. i can take a little time out of my day to vote. i wont die from that.

im all for civil disobedience i don't see why you're against voting.

i would love to live in a all voluntary anarcho-capitalist society with no government but how realistic is that ? how is a politician going to propose it on a national scale, i promote it personally but on the national scale its difficult. the constitution and voting is tenable, and realistic.

GLENN GREENWALD: Even Low Level NSA Analysts Can Spy On Phone Calls And Emails

Glenn Greenwald 'This Week' Interview
[YOUTUBEIF]PMvFj7KeGs8[/YOUTUBEIF]

Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/glenn-greenwald-nsa-edward-snowden-emails-calls-2013-7#ixzz2aNaUNfaO

Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian columnist who has broken a series of stories about the National Security Agency's surveillance powers, said Sunday that even low-level NSA analysts have the ability to search through private communications.

Greenwald's comments defended bombshell revelations from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden at the time, which have since come under scrutiny by intelligence analysts. Greenwald is set to testify before Congress on Wednesday, along with other NSA surveillance critics and analysts.

Greenwald dared NSA officials to dispute the claims when testifying this week. Though he said that there are "legal constraints" like the FISA court's approval on NSA surveillance, this type of surveillance goes through little supervision.

"There are legal constraints for how you can spy on Americans. You can’t target them without going to the FISA court. But these systems allow analysts to listen to whatever emails they want, whatever telephone calls, browsing histories, Microsoft Word documents," Greenwald said on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos.

"It’s an incredibly powerful and invasive tool, exactly of the type that Mr. Snowden described. NSA officials are going to be testifying before the Senate on Wednesday, and I defy them to deny that these programs work exactly as I just said."

Greenwald said he would publish a story in the coming week that details the process. He claimed that an NSA analyst simply needs to enter an email or IP address, upon which a search of the database lets them listen to the calls or read the emails of "everything the NSA has stored."

In a subsequent interview on the show, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he would be "shocked" if those claims were true.

He did, however, seem to leave the door open to "accidental" abuse.

"I was back out at NSA just last week, spent a couple hours out there with high and low level NSA officials. And what I have been assured of is that there is no capability at NSA for anyone without a court order to listen to any telephone conversation or to monitor any email.

In fact, we don't monitor emails. That's what kind of assures me that what the reporting is is not correct, because no emails are monitored now. They used to be, but that stopped two or three years ago. So I feel confident that there may have been some abuse, but if it was it was pure accidental."
