125F is pretty hot for light colors. We vacuum at 115F and -29.5" Hg in a thin film to consistently get shatter.

You are going to warm and vac to make the muffin, and once you have shatter, you only need to keep it warm to budder. You don't need to vac

Thanks for the tips, I am about to start looking for a laboratory hot plate unless there are any better suggestions. I have a reptile heating pad that will only to up to 110 on The dial control. When folded over it hits 125-140 over night. I keep getting stuck in muffin due to inconsistent temps I guess. I keep opening the chamber to check my temps and this probably cools my extract down a lot, only lengthening the time I have to reheat it to get it to start purging properly. I'm still not sure why there is butane trapped in my over cooked oil. I am doing pretty large runs so its hard to thin film purge; am I wrong in assuming that thick film purging is what I want to do when making wax?

Father Earth- I will check out the links. Thanks. And yes I have run fresh frozen material. Turns out bomb- I found that u can't pack the extractor tight with fresh frozen, or the pressure of the run will skyrocket, sometimes controllably, and sometimes not. If I can get the run done fast enough- with only one rinse, I have found I don't get water in my extract. I have been running all types of material from fresh frozen, cured, old, sugar shake to material with stem and brown leaf. I like the flavor of the fresh frozn the best. I was saving lots of fresh frozen material- for year- to make bubble with. I have a water vapor filter hooked up to the blue side of my appion, which seems to help. Hash.

Hey everyone. I tried to make some shatter last night and ended up with a sticky goo. I know some of you are thinking it's the material I am running, but at this point I am afraid to run any more good material due to the amount I have ruined. I need some serious help here, this is nothing like making bubble and my understanding of extracts is obciously novice.

At this point, any member with rep who lives in NorCal and can sow me how to make shatter or wax, I will pay $1000. PM me for further discussion. I counted lots of new grey hairs and seem to be getting more bald lately due to all the stress with the extracts, plus my mounting issues with fusarium aren't helping much either.

whoah there, don't pay anyone a dime! For what you can learn here for freeee!! :-D

Now what seems to be the problem? Are you winterizing?(and with what?)
are your temps still hitting 125-140f over night? (too hot IMO)
really don't even need to be vac'n that long if you're purging--->Winterizing---->thin film curing. . . Shit turns itself to shatter in a day or two. . .

Lol thnx for the concern. I have been on ic for years and other forums as well. I have been getting advice from all sorts of people who know how to make shatter and wax and its just not working out. I want to see if someone who knows what's up can make shatter with my material . I did get some blue dream indoor to butter up with no vacuum a few months ago, and couldn't repeat it when I tried with the same material when my vac chamber Finley arrivesd.

I have been doing some winterized (190 proof evercllear, frozen for 48 hours, double filtered) runs and non winterized. I have tried to turn my extracts to shatter and every time and left with stuff that is burnt black. I have had my temps at 115 all night, 125. I can't seem to keep the light golden color with or without vacuum.

Try shorter vac times and less heat. Heat to 115-130, vac 10 min, flip patty over reheat to 115-130 and vac ten min. Repeat about ten times or as needed. Over heating And multiple hour long vacs always produce wax in my experience. The hotter the greater chances of waxing up as well. Minimize the time that the oil is hot. That's my shatter method. Usually ends up being an hour and a half worth of purging time.

Shoot up to PDX and Ill help you for free. Nice drive, but considering your concerns and frustrations... Shoot me a PM ;)

We just finished a challenging ride astrologically. We have been experiencing mercury in retrograde since june 26th, that could be at the root of your troubles. Lots of challenges during such periods.. whether you believe in astrology or not, you too are affected. Anyhow, hang in there bro, youll get it.
If you swing up to PDX might as well go the Skunk Pharm for the best help around. .. Would be time well spent. Many blessings and Prana to overcome the hurdles in your journey.

Blessings Abound!

What about your thermometer? What are you using and do you have back ups to confirm it is calibrated properly? I use a meat thermometer the manual kind in the water bath and a Kitchen Aid digital with temp alarm also in the water bath. If the water gets too hot I still have a bit of time before the collection pots overheat due to its thickness. Normally Ill just dump the column if it gets too hot to instantly start cooling it as well as a few ice cubes from the recovery tank...

Father Earth, I will pm you later tonight. I have noticed a large correlation with life events and astrology. When i had Saturn return, I was literally broken down to my wits end, only to rise from the ashes, but forged and more refined. Here is the last pic I was trying to post from my last post, but was limited to 5 pics. This is my "shatter" lol , too gooey to even get off the parchment.

I will try again tonight with lower heat and post results.

For thermometer I use a digital ryobi. I noticed my meat thermometer was giving me false readings in the chamber.

Are u saying your extractor heats up? I have never noticed that happening and I am always checking it, because I use a heat gun to knock the frost off the outside of the unit to make sure my -22 hg is reading with no liquid tane still in the base.

Yea when Saturn returns is a nice challenge and a turning point for most, I know it was for me, all for the better. Yea looks like heat issue to me. Like 130ish range approaching 140 I get exactly what you just posted. Ive ran year old material and still get amber shatter. The newer stuff is certainly brighter in color. How do you keep your trim/ oil material? I keep mine sealed inside 5 mil mylar and in the deep freezer until Im ready to use it. I have a freezer just for that... I havent run anything that smelled like last year. You know all hashy and lacking terps ... How old is your material?

good thread.
115 is a good cut off.
a really quick and powerful vac helps speed the process up.

I grow indoor, outdoor. And greenhouse , so I have I pretty wide variety of trim. I have 2 freezers full of fresh frozen, I have bags of shake stored in 5 gallon buckets, bags, containers with no lids. I have some of my neighbors shake from last year. Such a wide variety that there is no reason I should keep getting the same charred black extract.

BTW, the pics posted last we not under vacuum. I was trying to make some shatter on the double boiler. The link you posted for the inline thermometer is awesome. I need to grab one.

bro..u get my ticket n accomodations (at ur pad lol) n ill do it for 5 bills...im gonna link you to another site at the end here so u can start to see my tech (which has evolved a bit since posting those)..i will literally come to your pad and sit there with you all night or for 2 nights until you 100% understand how to make every poss texture and why they come out the way they do..garens ball barens.. its super hard to lock in a tech when your reading through a bunch of diff peoples approaches and you dont wanna ruin good material..boy i feel you on that one.its right there tho g, prob one or two things that will tweak your whole deal...believe me i did it for a few years...just so ya know im not neck talkin i was the only person that entered the cannabis cup from san diego with my og wax last year and nico from ht told me my shit was DEF better than one of the people that got a trophy (politics i know..lol)..so if u want the end all be all class on tech, im down..i actually taught a few classes down here last year..and i got biz up in ur neck anyways...lmk. tot serious. heres the other site.. labhoroflove.proboards.com.. if nothing else, (as my tech has evolved from whats posted on that forum under waxology methodolgy) take a look at the pics of the diff textures there in that thread. youll get an idea of what u can do.....do you have a kief machine???

i know i know..people will continue to say CHARGING MONEY TO SHOW SOMEONE? lol....the dude wants to know the real shit..the REAL shit..not sift through a buncha peoples speculations and half techs etc....i spent 2 years of my life dedicated to coming up w the best tech i could and i STILL learn and browse new techs on the reg. i dont think its inappropriate to recieve some compensation...shit i said id do it for half.lol...if u dont got the time or desire to continue the hunt for the perfect wax, a class is certainly a great idea. If i was in your position, id certainly pay for it ESP if i was growin a shitload and wanted to be able to make shit come out how the people want it!!!! peace!

Hey everyone thanks for the replies. I will be pm'ing people tonight after I get done working today. Here is a pic of some bho dissolved in ethanol and I'm planning on letting it dry naturally in a Pyrex . Hopefully I will get some golden shatter.

Ok, here are therests of my thin film purge. I did it with ethanol washed bho and double boiled at 130. It's still a bit warm and seemingly oily, so should I wait until tomorrow to scrape it to keep the colors light?

Here is my current run. Sugar leaf from my last greenhouse crop. Only a couple week old. Does my psi look a bit high?

Here a the run from yesterday. I didn't want to burn it so I heated it to 100 after muffining, and then put it under vac and went to bed. Came out like this. Still tons of tane in it but the color looks good and it smells like fresh chronic. The colors are lighter, but my photo quality is not so good.

It's vaccing right now at room temp; 76f. What should I do here to make sure I don't burn it?
