The Next LED Rage: Quality White LED Tubes

Did some minor tweaking repositioning the hanger chain + I decided to take advantage of the 2 now open slots in my vanity fixture. I had 2 SM lights, one 5w the other 7w, so I added them. Total canopy wattage- 104 watts, but only ~ 2ft of the tubes is directly over the plants. Still, I think the rest of the lumens do not go unwasted. I believe they make the leds directly over the plant more intense, as it does not have to share its' light with an otherwise dark empty space. Dunno, maybe that sounds weird, but I think there is something to it.

So 104w SMD canopy + 39w RP globes under the canopy. FYI I rotate the plants once a day so that all sides benefit from the light

I'm interested to see how these do. I think some RED leds are really going to be needed on the flower....I'm watching this grow...We'll see!

These PAR readings always trouble me. It is just so misleading to give a one number PAR output and expect people to be able to use that number to compare lights against each other. That number is a cumlative reading of all the light output in the Photosynthetic Active Radiation spectrum. It shows nothing about how well a light grows a plant, because it doesn't take into account the spectrum the light is putting out. For example: You can make a ALL Red led light that would have a really high PAR reading, but wouldn't work to grow a plant.

Unfortunately there is no standardized system yet, but it's being worked on. The best way to compare lights is to look at the Spectral Irradiance graph which is usually read with an integrating sphere.

I'm done ranting, just feel like there is a lot of misinformation out there....

I have it on vg authority that WW leds contain ample 630,
which accounts for ~ 95% of the PS of 660

Some strains may want/need 660, but not much more than 10%

My first grow with this strain I supplemented with RB UFO 90. My plan is to grow her clones without the UFO, but can add if needed :artist:

hey i feel ya, I was using it to look at the light spread - to see what's appropriate for what height above the canopy ;) Your right, there's no quality meter yet, i hope they do get to it..

very sweet, looks like a nice harvest!

I am of the opinion that adding all the light that you can as long as the area doesn't over heat is a path towards optimal.. but good luck either way!

I have experience with LED tubes (on aquariums and weed growing also) and I really don't recommend them for flowering cannabis because they have a terrible penetration. They are good for aquariums (where water and glass walls reflect the light back into tho the aquarium) and for office lightning. You can also use them for veg (instead of T5 tubes) and for moms, but for flowering, without a flat and spread canopy, the yield will suffer for sure.

I don't say that you can't grow weed under this light, but the results are bellow average.

:2cents:

We shall soon see. Pistils are plentiful and where they should be for this stage. Keep in mind my diodes are 5050 Samsung (very bright) + tubes are 18w

Sweet, I hope things go smoothly for you. I like to talk to my girls, and tell them what I hope for them and want from them - ever do that? Gardening is fun :blowbubbles:

I usually post pics once a week, but bud/pistil growth is so rapid since 6/29...

Morning Photos

I shudder to think what these would have looked like had i not checked rez temps yesterday. a few leafs gave it up, but otherwise, all ahead full

The buckets are too small to add a quart btl of ice, so I decided to take each plant out individually and drop a 1/2g ice btl inside for 4-5 minutes. Will repeat as needed.

Since the plants were more camera accessible, I took photos

EnduraLED 22 watts 100-277 volts G13 T8 LED 48 inch Tube Light @ $73, let me help you unconfuse yourself

iBrights come in 3 color temps. I went with 1 NW (5000K) + 3 WW (~ 3000K) = $140 for 4 tubes!

I think what confused you was that they list 3 sizes, which means 3 different lumens and 3 different wattages. I bolded the 4ft specs

They produce ~ 100 lpw with CRI of 95

Length: 600 mm (1.96 ft), 1200 mm (3.93 ft), 1500 mm (4.92 ft)
Input Voltage: Max.36VDC (Input Voltage of External Power Supply: 100-277VAC)
Lumens: 875-925 lm, 1750-1850 lm, 2150-2250 lm
Power Consumption: 9W±1W, 18W±1W, 22W±1W
Power Factor: >0.95
Housing: Aluminum
Color Temperature:
2800-3200 K
4250-4750 K
5500-6500 K

Could the Philips possibly be twice as good? IDTS

it was actually the 4000 hour lifetime that confused me, should htat be 4k or 40k - if it's led 4k hours is quite small
