so vortex/phresh filter over can fan/filter?
This has always been my dream, have a cool investor that is down for pretty much anything. Nothing is set in stone yet but I have a good feeling he will be down when I lay it out for him... I want to have some basic numbers/figures ready for him for when I go to talk to him though. So that is where you guys, the pros come in...
I wanna say right now, I am gonna need some help, that's why I am posting this. I have only grown under a 150w HPS but unless everyone has been lying to me, they say that micro growing is much more challnging then full scale growing and i figure as long as I have a proper setup and the right equipment I shouldn't have much to worry about. I know there are unforseeable events but prevention is the key as they say.
So time to talk some real shit...
first off locaton is the biggest issue. We have no spot currently to use so that will prob be the biggest expense but idk if he will care based on his background. And he may be planning this to be a long term investment, where I am looking at it short term.
Let's talk equipment. What do you guys think is a good amount to ask for to get a proper setup rolling? this is only for equipment for the grow... no rent, electricty bills or anything... just the loan for the gear.
How big he wants to go is still unknown so for now let's just say we are keeping it somewhere between 2k-6k
I was figuring 10 G's. Just to play it safe and have some spare just in case "OH SHIT" money...
does that sound about right guys?
I don't wanna go into too much detail without some ideas being thrown around because I know you guys have a much better idea then I do...
If anyone feels more comfortable in PM, just shoot me one...
THIS IS JUST FOR IDEAS. IT IS NOT YET IN PROGRESS,
I ran vortex fans and matched cfm carbonaire scrubber combos from plantlightinghydroponics.com.....Ah so many decisions... So for ballasts... I think I am deff going Quantum unless someone reccomends not to...
400w is $130
600w is $140
1000w is $150
USHIO Hilux Bulbs in same order:
400w is $40
600w is $60
1000w is $70
It only makes sense to go with the 1000w makes it is only $50 more in total then the 400w setup... but I just DON'T SEE myself running 1k ANYTIME SOON...
Also would I run into any problems if I went with this fan instead of a Can or a Vortex or should I once again just pay the extra $50 bucks?

EDIT: How are Hurricane fans in comparison to Vortex's? I can get a 6" Hurricane for $70 vs. a 6" vortex for $140...
Also would it be fine to get the 6"x16" Phresh Filter instead of the 6"x24" to match the above fan, Or should I go with Can still? Anyone have any reccomendations for speed controllers?
Also how loud are these fans going to be? I want to be able to cool my fans and exchange air twice per minute but i don't want my bedroom sound like an airport runaway... anyone have any reccomendations for duct muffler/silencers?
EDIT: Just to be Clear, THIS IS ALL FOR PERSONAL EQUIPMENT> NOT INVESTOR PLAN.
Any fan you get will be pretty loud. The vortex i would say is slightly quieter. The valuline is slight step down and hurricane is slightly behind the valuline. Id go with the Vortex if you got the money, Ive had mine running for 7 years never shut it off. I have a valuline to but its 8'' and buddy has a hurricane 8'' and there not as high quality as Vortex.
Carbon filter wise a 6x24 is barely enough to get rid of odor on full all out 1k grow. Ive bought new Phresh 6x24's and could still smell things. If i could do it again I would have got a 8x39 and put a 6'' adaptor on it back then.
muffler wise i have never used 1. I run a carbon filter at begining and 1 at the end. So I got 2 6x24's on same line. NO smell, No sound(hardly), and ive done this for going on 6 years with no issues with same Vortex. Im sure guys will say shouldnt do that for some reason or other but It works and I will always run with 2 filters on blooming rooms.
Glad to see you listened to some people in this thread. Most if not all people started small, and worked their way up from there. I started with 1 600 watt and barely got a harvest the first time. Now I run much more than that, and have monthly harvests. There is a lot involved with more lights, and multiple rooms. Broad mites just knocked me back down to the ground. I thought I had everything dialed in, and running like clock work. Then the broad mites decided to show me I don't know shit. Even with broad mites I did not miss a harvest. I will have decreased yields, but still kept the rotation going.
When I went form 1 600 watt, to running more I got way ahead of myself. I started to look for a basement to blow up, and yada, yada, yada, you know the drill. I pulled back, and started to focus on what I have, and not what could be. My growing skills are far superior to what they were because of this. I have not missed a monthly harvest in a year and a half. Might not sound like a big deal to some, but it is much harder than I would have ever expected it would be.
I am at a point now where I don't really want more lights(deep down we all want to run a 100 lights ), but I want to work on my yields. I have more than enough watts. With the right skills, and the right market you don't need to blow up a basement, or rent house to make it.
Slow, and steady wins the race.
I ran vortex fans and matched cfm carbonaire scrubber combos from plantlightinghydroponics.com.....
I`d go with the dimmable ballasts and 600 eye horti`s but they cost more although they last longer.....You can find duct mufflers/silencers , but I`m not knowledgeable on em since I never used any......
Make sure you use active intakes on speed controllers dialed down so as to not overrun the exhaust scrubber combo`s to maintain negative pressure inside the grow area.....
Small muffin fan underneath the bare bulbs on the lowest speed to establish that "slow-moving" column of air to gently assist natural heat convection rising so the scrubber combo`s are "always" pulling heat and smell out of the room.....
You can do this.....Make a plan and stick with it.....set goals and make shit happen.....Got so many of my vert-ville boys like Otis that started with very little and have constantly grown and prospered accordingly.....anyways.....
Good luck and holler if I can help...
Peace....DHF............
