Foxtailing, whats your take on it

yeah i love the cut, and now i let it do it's thing because its a very unusual expression. it smokes beautifully and has a great high, colours infront of your eyes.
it's true that environmental factors can cause foxtailing and castling, ive seen it happen occasionally in my grows, but some phenos of some strains just want to do it, and if the calyxs dont stack then you end up with very small buds.
i wouldnt know about boosters, pgrs etc. i pretty much just add water to my organic grows, and now i use LED's so my canopy temps arent that high. i actually have to heat my grows in winter because it's too cold.

I always loved the look of the foxtails and honestly don't remember ever getting a good bag of straight round perfect nugs. They all looked like they were run through a trimpro
Aside from being a PITA to trim, I've always loved foxtails,.... sure they look odd if your in a appearance driven market, but the quality of the smoke IMO is better. Just flower calyx and trichomes

I get it on my sativa just before I consider it to be done....then the calyxs swell a tiny bit more and CHOP down she goes.

theres an obsession with density atm. tbh I don't see what difference it makes but there you go.
I had one room running 4 lights w/ 2 drain tables. On one table, I ran 6" rockwool cubes and the other table, I just sat soil pots on it and watered by hand (long story - it was a logistic issue).
In the hydro, I ran full strength shooting powder and in the soil, almost none. I had super tight smaller nugs in the soil and larger foxtailed buds in the hydro with the same strains.
It wasn't the environment because it was the same room. Im positive it was the shooting powder....

I agree with this...there is more surface area with trichomes exposed to light/air.

It depends on the strain.
old Seedbank NL x Haze would send up new shoots, one after another. But then (on a good plant, that could adapt to an indoor light, Sonagra 430) that wispy structure would fill in - and get slathered in Haze-y Sativa resin.
