NEW YORK — PepsiCo says it cutting ties with Lil Wayne after the rapper made a crude reference to civil rights martyr Emmett Till in a song.

Lil Wayne, one of the biggest stars in pop music, had a deal to promote the company's Mountain Dew soda.

The controversy erupted after Wayne referred to beating someone during a sexual act and said he wants to do as much damage as was done to Till.

The black teen was visiting family in Mississippi in 1955 when he was killed, allegedly for whistling at a white woman.

PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, N.Y., said in a statement Friday that Wayne's "offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand."

I am continually amazed at the massive regression of the US regarding race relations and damn near everything else. Forty years ago it was possible to use satire to lampoon ignorance and racism. Today, the bedwetters decide for everyone that it isn't politically correct.

I agree with you to a point. your right about the film, but so many years on, the social climate has changed.
where I am at least I don't ever come across any racist people and id say its getting better with time. a film like that released now I think would do harm than good. it needs to be left in the past tbh.

funniest movie ever, Mel Brooks is genius. I especially like the scene where the old lady passes Sheriff Bart the pie through the window asking the sheriff to be discrete about her talking to him.
