Bears drafted son of Howie with their 1st round pick.
Ok.
If he works out, great, but no one had Kyle Long going in the 1st round, so it seems a bit of a stretch. Probably still would have been there in the 2nd round, maybe even the 3rd?
Maybe not as much of a stretch as Dion Jordan to Dolphins at #3 and Ansah to the Lions at #5, but still.

As a Lions fan, that pick wasn't that big a surprise.

Thought they might go with Milliner, but still Ansah, IMO, was a better pick than Mingo. Mingo's more 1 dimensional.

Ansah's physical abilities, are unreal. Not much experience tho'!

Lions are going to have one hell of a defensive front for a few years!:dance013:

Yeah, if he works out like Jason Pierre-Paul, another athletic specimen with limited college experience, then it's a good pick. If he helps free up Suh, who didn't look as special as he did his rookie year, then that's also a good thing. Their defense really took a step back last year.
Lions probably need a bit more balance to their offense to be contenders. Stafford is putting up some all time passing #'s, but not being very efficient while doing it. Plus he was side-arming the ball a lot last year, which i thought was a novel way to throw into passing lanes, but may be because his shoulder is hurt. Either way, putting more elbow into a throw can't be good for the elbow. But if he gets healthy (and maybe he is, or was, don't know) and doesn't need to pass 50 times a game, they can get back into the playoffs.
I think they lost a lot of close games last year, so their record was worse than what it should have been, and maybe that speaks more to Schwartz's coaching ability than the talent on the team. Not that he's a bad coach, seems like he can develop stars and win some games, but he better step up his game too if he's going to make some noise in the playoffs.

Not surprising really. The only reason Long wasn't higher on most boards is a relative lack of experience and some off field stuff.

I think he ends up being a good OL for the Bears (wherever he ends up lining up).

Reggie Bush is a legit back, a good pass catcher as well, will be interesting to see how he does.

Jarvis Jones is the next great Steelers OLB. They'll need him now that James Harrison is playing for a divisional rival. Did they draft any DB's?

Kyle Long has the physical tools to play well, if he can withstand Cutler belittling him after every missed block.

Interesting experiment Harbaugh is doing with the olympian. Just get the biggest, strongest, fastest guy, put him on the line and tell him to sic the guy with the ball. Maybe it really is that simple.

I heard about the Thomas pick, he's supposed to be the successor to Polamalu. Troy is a great player but he's been hard hit by injuries the past couple of years, so makes sense that they have a plan B in place.
And Landry Jones is a recognizable name, he can throw the ball some but Sooners fans were never really sold on him, didn't think he played well in big games, except against Texas. But he might be a good value pick, and a capable starter when Ben has to miss a game.

I actually think landry jones was a solid pick, I know fans didn't love him but in college he really didn't have play makers and I think Bob stoops is very overrated. Kenny stills was his best offense weapon over the years if I am not mistaken.... Landry has played a lot of football in a competitive conference. The best part is he was drafted by the right team, year in and year out Pitt has proved you shouldn't question their picks, they draft just as well if not better than any team in the NFL....

My cowboys on the other hand, well we're never gonna win a superbowl until jerry jones fires himself. Trade down to the 31st pick, we didn't even get equal value in the trade, on top of that we passed on the 2nd best safety for a middle of the road lineman. Jerry needs to learn taking value over needs isn't always bad, fucking idiot, we could've have that kid Reid from LSU....no no instead Jerry takes a safety in the 3rd or 4th rd, from some nobody college...Stellar draft again JJ....

I was scratching my head at what Dallas did.Don't know much about Landry Jones but if he's related to Jerry thats 1 strike

G.Bush, you better hope your ass he isn't related to jerry, bad juju.... Jerry wants to be able to cut some of the current players, for the year 2015 so he can free up a ton of cap space, people like orlando scandirck, miles austin, and as much as it hurts to say Jason Witten....I have a hard time believing witten could ever play for another team....

Is Jerry Jones going to become the next Al Davis? An owner who experienced early success but in his later years can't get out of his own way?
Taking that center at the end of the 1st round was a head scratcher, one of those picks that people say would have still been available much later. Obviously those types of picks happen to a lot of teams, you just have to hope he knows what he's doing. Which, over the last 10 years, there's not much evidence of that.
But the Cowboys remain profitable, the stadium is making him money and not just from football, he knows how to make a buck thats for sure.
If he was really smart, he'd offer Jim Harbaugh 10mil a year to become his head coach.

Baba, you nailed it on the head man. JJ won't win another superbowl until he fires JJ, plain and simple. Jerry got lucky in those drafts with Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy knew the college game and players really well from coaching at the U. Once he left drafts were sub par....then Parcells comes along and wouldn't you know we get Romo and draft players like D. Ware... Parcells leaves and well we aren't any better.....I guess we'll never really know weather it was a reach pick or not for another 3-4 years. Drafts are funny, if you reach on a guy and he pans out, was he a reach to begin with? Nevertheless I would have like to see us take a safety their, we do need to protect Romo better so I am not pissed we took a OL, just pissed we could've gotten better value from that pick and trade from SF. Did anyone else think SF fleeced Dallas on that 18th pick?

Has it been all bad with Jerry Jones? He took a chance on Dez Bryant in the 1st round a couple of years; while there's been some drama, Bryant really turned it on in the second half last year (helped me win one of my leagues). Got Demarco Murray in the 3rd round in '11. Mo Claiborne last year.
But like Parcells said of the 'Dream Team' Eagles a couple years ago: lot of side dishes, not enough meat and potatoes.
This game is won in the trenches. That's how the Cowboys won their championships, with a dominant defense and sturdy O-line (and yes, having Aikman, Emmitt and Irvin).
That's how the Niners are winning games now, how the Giants won their two championships.
I'll give JJ credit, he got a few good years out of RT Marc Columbo, a former Bears 1st rd pick who was released because of injuries.
It's a competitive league, and the 'Boys haven't been a dominant team by any stretch, but they haven't been really bad either.

Urlacher retired after a 13 year career.
Sad to see him go, even though injuries and age caught up to him, it seemed like every game he played he made the defense better. Hopefully they'll continue to have an above average defense without their captain.
He was never warm and fuzzy with the media or fans, and made some questionable choices with the females he had relationships with, but I appreciated his blunt honesty.
He's a borderline HOF'er, imo. Probably the best Cover 2 linebacker ever, with his mix of size, speed, coverage skills and tackling ability.
I remember one game, on a fumble return, I saw this big white guy running with the returner and thought, wow that offensive lineman is FAST. Then I remembered the Bears were on defense and that was Urlacher keeping up with the d-back. Yup, at 6'4" and 240 some lbs, he was faster than most safeties. Freakish athlete in his prime.
But never having won a ring, and having lost about 20 games of his career to injuries, don't know if his stats are enough for voters to put him in Canton.

In other news, Crabtree suffered an Achilles tear during minicamp recently.
I had him pegged as a top five WR in fantasy this year. Was impressed with his rapport with Kaepernick, his ability to get open and catch the ball in traffic. I still think he'll come back this year and help the team, but maybe that's a latter half of the season timetable...
