quick acting magnesum

hello, i have some plants showing signs of magnesium deficincy and also some calcium. i want to know if i can use a lot of mollasses mixed with my casting tea (i normally dont use a lot) and if it would be able to be quickly uptaken by the plants. or if magnesium in this form, would not be able to be processed by my microbes into usable magnesium. i have some botanicare cns 17 organic bloom blend and that has water soluable magnesium in it, if i gave a dose (large plants and just sareted 12/12 almost a week ago) would this be a bad idea because it has some things the plant doesnt need right now, or would the theory of the roots uptaking what they need and leaving what they dont need apply? i have never overfed before and i dont want to now so i am asking questions and being cautious.

I like general organics cal mag + product for when I have cal mag deficiencies. Actually, I filter my water, so I need to add some cal/mag back in with every watering. Hope this helps.

i switched to sul-po-mag and have a lot less deficiencies. i dont even add dolomite lime any longer.

for a quick fix, epsom salts is magnesium sulfate septa hydrate (each molecule is bound to 7 water molecules, i believe). 1/4 tsp in a gallon should be sufficient for foliar applications
I havent used it in last 2 grows, because they seem to have all the calcium and magnesium, etc they need
calcium, i think oyster shell flour, or eggshells, I believe

quote...

Organic calcium sources include dolomite lime, calcite, ground oyster shell (oyster shell flour), and crushed eggshells.

Soil Amendment N-P-K Description Lasts Application Rate
Dolomite Lime Cheap and readily available source of Ca and Magnesium (Mg) in acidic soils. Do not use if soil Mg levels are adequate or excessive, or plant toxicity may result. If in doubt, use Calcite or Oyster Shell Flour for supplemental Ca. 3-12 Months In clay soil, 8.75lbs/100 sq ft raises pH 1 point

In sandy soil, 2.5lbs/100 sq ft raises pH 1 point
Ground Oyster Shell 0.25-0.15-0.25 Finely ground oyster shells. A long-term, slow-release organic Ca source. Fuels microbial growth in soil. Excellent for balancing out acidic conditions in worm bins. 1-2 Years 4-6lbs/100 sq ft
Dried, Crushed Eggshells The trick is to dry them first in a can on top of the refrigerator. Mash down as needed, then grind to a coarse powder in a food processor. Great for seed starting mixes & cruciferous vegetables. 3-12 Months Up to 2lbs/100 sq ft
3Tbs/10” pot
Calcite (Hi-Calcium Lime) Good alternative when dolomite lime is inappropriate. 3-12 Months 1-2lbs/100 sq ft

Earth Worm Castings either as a slurry application or a top dressing.

EWC slurry / topdress - the indubitable cure-all of organic gardening - dont knock the EWC until you try it - is there anything it won't cure? :D

i use a ewc tea almost weekly and it has been a regular practice for a couple cycles now. it was fine for the first cycle but these affected plants are re vegged and i may have added too little lime to my recycled soil... ewc is great for nitrogrn i have found but cure all? maybe our recipes very, i just use ewc and mollasses at 1 tsp per gallon.

thank you al-k-mist that is some great advice i have epsom salt and i shall try this tomorrow for a foilar feed. when i saw how much info was in your post you literaly made my night! and saved me some money.

Yes.. EWC slurries has been a life saver several times for me...But not as a tea.. Water, ewc....Mix it around a little and top dress.... I use EWC tea to add microbes... ( and a little nutrient cycling...)

i am speechless, i use ewc in my soil (i use lc's soil mix #2) what does ewc have in it besides nitrogen? i dont know the diffrence between how to identify quality ewc and poor ewc. i have only bought it from one place 2 times and i dont know if its quality enough but i don know i hqave had decent results so far. i am not goint to make a worm compost box like i have seen some people use i dont ave the comitment to keep up on a worm box or the money laying around im scraping by right now. do you use your own ewc or do you buy it?
i love finding new things out about orgasnics and i really want to pick your brain, thanks!

lol

P²O³, K²O, Ca, Fe, Mg..........microorganisms etc.......

EWC slurry is equal amounts of water and EWC. Place in a bucket add water and mix like hell.......like this

add to containers. simple and the most effective way to correct almost all problems. If you a scrapping by then making them would be the most economical way to go. 1 smart pot, some finished compost, some dried leaves a bedding and your food scraps. Simple.

PS don´t add lime to your mixes like that and this will not happen.

What lime did you add? dolomite?

You gotta work on your soil because with organics you should never have ANY kind of deficiency.

ya but he is using the super LCs mix! Some say it is the ´perfect´ mix. With the dolomite and all to cure that cal-mag thingy.

EWC won't cure myth based cannabis gardening.

Ahhh, but i think it is begining to. A lot of people are catching on, and while they will probably hype it up as magic cannabis food that will give you a big dick too
(derived from non plant food ingredients, vermicompost and a secret ingredient...)

But seriously, wonderful, what these cats are sayin isnt 'if you have vermicompost in your soil ,you are straight" or " do you use ewc teas?"..they are saying a slurry poured on the soil around the plant should release a bit, kinda quick.
I said I HAVE used mgso4h2o7 (epsom salts), in the past, to correct magnesium deficiency. now it would be a last resort emergency fix, which i cant see popping up since the soil has plenty of stuff in it containing Mg
now I havent noticed a defieciency of that kind in a few grows...because, as OO said, the soil is right(i think my soil mix from last time could be a bit better, but not in that regarrrrd)
good luck man

oh, whoever said the word QUALITY worm castings hit the nail on the head...i doubt 'black gold' brand "soil conditioner" has mmuch of anything other than carrrdboard, paper, or sawdust
