Because that is how we did it years ago. The preferred method now is Calcium Carbonate (ag lime), Oyster shell flour and Gypsum in equal amounts.

I like using Coral calcium instead of ag lime but calcium carbonate is calcium carbonate so what ever is local to you.

There are many other things I would like to see changed in this thread like greensand........there are much better sources of K without waiting years for it to break down to be available for the plants and most beginners don´t recycle their soil so it is useless.

And the amount of Molasses in those tea mixes is waaaaaaaaay tooooooooo much. It should be more like 1\4 tsp per 1 or 2 gallons of water.

I could go on and on but change for some comes sloooooooooow.

lol

Thanks
I have the oyster shell flour and gypsum already

Dont mind the name, i thought i was an organic grower until i started reading these forums. I wish i would have found this forum along time ago . But anyways ... I have a grow in progress, and all i used for the medium was sunshine mix #4. And i was following someone elses guano tea recipe, this is the veg recipe per gallon of water
1 cup ewc or compost
1 heaping tsp of high n guano
1 heaping tsp liquid seaweed
1 heaping tsp liquid fish
1 tblsp molasses
Bubbled for 48 hrs
And for the bloom recipe i was just replacing the high n guano with high p guano. I know you cant predict the future, but can you see anything im gonna have a problem with? I hope this isnt a stupid question

OrganicGrowerMi hows it going,

from what I see, your tea is fine, it's just, you will get better performance if you keep the compost tea separate from the nutrient teas. the microbes will grow better that way.

I would lower the dose of molasses too. 1 tbs is enough for 5 gallons of water.

personally, I would just make compost tea and put the guano in the worm bin, or top dress with 'em... but that's just me.

one more thing before I forget, liquid seaweed is not the same thing as kelp... kelp is way better, by far...

I would try to advise you but do not have enough experience in feeding completely with a tea in a soil-less mix.

I will however add this because I see SO many different recommendations for amounts of Molasses and Compost but only 1 so far that I know has proven these ratios with a scope.

Here is the Tea Ratios used by MicrobeMan according to his microscope:

For 5 Gallons of water: 80 cups of water

Molasses at .50% of water volume = 6.4 Tablespoons

Earth Worm Castings at 2.38% = 1.904 Cups

EDIT: So I thought that google was awesome and doing all of these calculations for me.... turns out it was actually google Chrome.

Hey MHG thanks for that info. Do you know the conversion for the fish hydrolysate, kelp meal and soft rock phosphate?

Yes. Are you using a 5 gallon bucket? Most of the time I use a 4 Gallon Ratio because the bucket isn't full.... anyways.

Keep in mind that the Kelp Meal will also slow down the Process of the Compost tea. I keep just EWC and molasses in my tea and then would bubble the kelp separately if needed.

Anyhow. Sticking with 5 Gallons

5 Gallons = 80 Cups

Fish hydrolysate(high quality) - 0.063%

80 x .063% = .0504 Cups
.0504 cups to tablespoons = 0.8064 Tablespoons or 2.4192 teaspoons or 11.924 Milliliters

Kelp Meal is .25% which is easy cause that is half of the Molasses amount. Or 3.2 Tablespoons

SRP is the same as the Fish Hydrolysate
0.8064 Tablespoons or 2.4192 teaspoons or 11.924 Milliliters
