Day 68

I spent about 10 minutes re-weaving the taller branches. Obviously in a best case scenario I'd want a head coming out of each hole, but I doubt this will happen, so I'm doing my best to grow an even canopy.

Here are pictures after the weaving, with the lights turned off so we don't get that purple taint.

I think they look really good and healthy, but like I said before, I have no frame of reference.

What I LOVE about my SS400W is how QUIET they are. The loudest thing in my grow is the frickin' air pump, by faaaar.

My question is: when should I stop weaving and just let them grow vertically? I'm two weeks into flower now.

Day 73

Res change made today. I do it every 2 weeks now, since the res is big enough to handle it. I don't do any top offs or anything of the sort. Just let it sit for two weeks, keeping an eye on PPM and pH. Saves me trouble and nutes.

I've been pushing temps further, 1F a week. At 92F now, no sign of problem. I'm trying to determine the maximum they can take.

Popped both SS400W back in, and the light mover is back online (I had to figure out how to interface the second light so it moves with the first).

I realized so long the room temperatures are 68F or less, my chiller can handle both lights. Still buying a bigger one, but between the new chiller and dehumidifier, that's another grand to spend on a 2 plants, so I'm doing what I can to space out the expenses.

Day 75

So I spent the last week pushing temps to determine what was the maximum supported ambient temp. As you know, the higher the temps are, the faster photosynthesis will occur, provided all other conditions are met (CO2, light, rH, etc.), so I was pushing it to the max. 91F didn't show any problems but growth slowed a bit. At 92F, as you can see under, the plants started showing signs of overheat.

I've decided to put it back at 90F, which was the comfortable spot.

Back at 90F and the issues have subsided. Since we're 3 weeks into flower I'm hoping the initial stretch is done and that they'll be growing regularly but slowly for the next 40 ish days since I only have about 2 feet of height left for them to grow.

Cool lights. Those are the California Lightworks ones right? I like the built in UVB! How are you liking them? Wish they'd come down in price and i'd buy one.

Yes, they're from Cali Lightworks. The Veg/Bloom switch are practical, as is the added UVB for when trichromes appear and you want that little boost.

HID is still much cheaper than LED, but I wanted to try the new technology and see for myself.

So far, I think they do well, but if you take into consideration that a 600HPS would likely yield identical results, it's still expensive.

Day 28 of flower

Sorry for crappy quality, don't have time to take stack exposures today, and I don't even have my macro rail with me, I wasn't expecting to take those pics for another 4 weeks.

First pic is 1:1 magnification, second is 1:3.5

SS says Kali Mist takes 70-90 to flower, and Ed R's book says trichs usually appear towards the end of flower. But I'm not even halfway there yet, so I was surprised to see trichs. I thought it might have been mold!

looking great bro, ive read the hole thread, looks really promissing!!
just a little advice, i dont now if you did, but if not, you should clean the growth underneath the net, so that they concentrate all their strength in the upper growth, and it get you a better air flow witch helps prevent against mold or plagues!!
cheers

Coming along nicely. Kali holds a close spot to my heart. One of my absolute favorites.

Agreed with the undergrowth, but its probably too late now. Anything you remove will be a loss of weight.

that's called lollipopping, what you're referencing?

I never did it because people on another forum told me it wasn't necessary. It even sparked a very heated debate on the question, so since this was my first grow, by fear of taking away too much or hurting the plants, I left it all as it is.

I do have two vortex fans blowing air under the canopy, so there's good air movement to compensate.

It's difficult to make these decisions when you start up and people argue so passionately about it.

On my next grow I had planned to lollipop and see what kind of difference it make.

Though I'm unlikely to grow KM next time. 90d flower is just too long,

This is one hell of a first grow. Looking like a pro. Wait until you smoke the Kali before you decide it's too long to wait - she's a special smoke. Then again, by the looks of it you'll have enough to last you for a while by the end of this run...
