MOSCA gear rules!

MOSCA gear rules!

I'm loving IBG more and more,
just noticed this morning they are sexing out.
today is 30 days from when they were dropped in water
so they actually broke ground24-25 days ago so were lookin at se'xg out @ 3-1/2 weeks.
for me this is one of if not thee fastest Ive ever had plants sex out.
this makes it nice-n-easy knowing who's what this early in the game.

ok, just counted out how many girls and how many guy

10 seeds started,
1 dud
1 runt
and the count is....

drumroll plzzzz ................................

1 MALE
:greenstars:

6 LADIES

i have to say this again, these plants have excellent vigor
the preflowers on the gals have very loooong white pistils.
I'm really enjoying this strain.
its been a while since I've enjoyed a strain this much in veg
pipe.gif

oh! forgot to mention they are ready to up pot again, either 2 or 3 gallons and then into bloom
when the roots fill in.
I'm thinking at least 3 gallons, maybe 5 for this run
gonna need all the roots to support the fat cola's i think these gals will be producing

That's what we like to hear Gnome, nice M/F ratio.

Looks like you've got this one on cruise control. Keep up the good work, those plants are looking very happy.

lookin fantastic gnome cant wait to see what you get out of your OTIBG ladies can you describe the smell so far if you rub their stems?

oh they have a fantastic smell, and have had it since they were 2-3 weeks old but the smell is really starting to ramp up in the last week.
1 in particular, the sweetness hits you 1st and its similar to some kind of gum or candy then its a pure sweetish hash aroma.

the others I'm getting mostly sweet, with a slight mix of sours.
I'll be disappointed if this isn't some of the most aromatic and tasty smoke Ive grown.
the plants are very healthy and sturdy,
the tallest barely pushing 14" but the main stem is the size of those fat pencils we used in the 1st grade, the only other plant ive grown with stalks this big this early is sour bubble.

the tsi flies are smelly mostly sour and chemmy and growing low compared to the IBGs but they are a week behind the IBGs

time to clone, airlayer style!

time to clone, airlayer style!

alrighty, since were sexed out its time to gather up some clones.
I'm going to knock the rust off and get my clones via the airlayer method.

i did this many years ago back in the 70s on outdoor stock
and it works great on large plants.
is a neat way to gt your clones and once you get it set, you just make sure the medium of choice stays damp til you have roots.
since the plants/limbs are so small I'll use a modified rapid rooter in stead of sphagnum peat moss.

all you'll need is some rooting powder, a razor, string, Qtips,
a cup of water and the rooting medium.

select a branch, one thats older and woody.
scar the branch on opposite sides with the razor til you get to
the white woody part under the skin
picture.php

use a wet Qtip to dampen where it was scraped with the razor
get some rooting powder on a Qtip and apply it to the the stem

time to clone... air layer style!

time to clone... air layer style!

get your rapid rooter plug and split it down lengthwise till you get the the center, don't cut it completely in 1/2,
for this particular application I'll cut about 20% off the top of the plug it so its not so heavy for these small branches when the plugs are wet.
picture.php

ok almost done, this last step is a bit tricky because of the small size of the plants were working with.
get your string and make a slip knot on the end.
leave attached to the ball or cut a long enough piece to open the knot it up quite a bit, you'll see why below
moisten the rr plug and wrap it around the scraped section,
get your string with the slip knot opened up big enough to slip over the leaves on the end of the branch
now, put it on one end of the plug and gently tighten the slip knot until its nice and snug on the plug.
repeat for the other end and this is what you should be looking like.

picture.php

there ya go... your set,
just make sure you keep the plug moist,
you may want to loosely wrap a piece of saran wrap if your plugs are drying out to fast.
you can do this on large plants using sphagnum peat wrapped around the scrape and use saran wrap or a modified baggie
to keep the peat moist and in place.
you'll know you have roots either by visual observation and/or as the roots start giving the branch its own water suppply the growth of the limb will take off and grow in size remarkably!

that's pretty cool bro.

thanks gaius
its a neat way to clone and works extremely well as a way to get an entire branch from large plants.
when they are rooted just cut off the branch and replant.
this would work well in bloom with unknown 1st run variety's.
when you figure out which one you want to keep just cut the branch off
and back to the veg room with it

forgot say, the slip knot will loosen up so either tie it off with a knot that won't loosen
OR
get something like glue and *paint* the cut string, I had some liquid bandage handy and used that.

another thing, the rapid rooters are drying out too much being in the open air, so you'll have to wrap a piece of saran wrap on it to keep the transpiration down.

on the larger plants i would use sphagnum peat in a modified zip lock baggie and depending on conditions you could go 10-14 days between watering the air layer.

Thanks for sharing your cloning method gnome. Very interesting, and seems pretty fail proof as long as you monitor conditions at the site. Definitely going to give it a try.:tiphat:

just to be clear, this isn't my mainstay cloning method
I use perlite and vem. and get a 98% success rate.

the method in this post is something I did long ago, but still a viable method none the less and is better suited to larger plants.

ok, another week has passed and my OTIBGs are ready to hit the 3 gallon bags, roots are pouring out the bottom drainage holes
these ibg's have the thickest whitest most rhizo looking roots Ive ever seen in a strain
they're still under the HO T5s and looking very healthy
these are good vigorous genetics!
AND
the really good news.... room is now available for new tenants under the 1000w halide.
can't wait for em to get under that big bulb!

don't start planting more ideas in my head :D
well sheeet mo well, crack dem ladies
we'll toss us an old fashioned inhouse Mosca mardi gras block party:party:
i love veggin with the 8 lite T5s, i always get primo results with em.
i have 3--> 8 lamp units and 1---> 6 lamp.
Ive gotten the best looking plants Ive ever had using HO T5s.
they kill it from seedlings into veg but i like to get a few weeks of the 1000w Mh in before 12.12
I wish i had my sealed room room w/6000w of bare bulb Co2 goodness online.
Ive been thinking on just doing the Co2 for this gro but I'd have to get set up with a tank.
the new room will have a gas genny it.

MOSCA OT x IBG/TSI FLY @50days

MOSCA OT x IBG/TSI FLY @50days

ok, been a few weeks since I posted on the ot x ibg's and Tsi Fly
things have progressed nicely,
they are in they're 3 gallon bags now,
I'm still deciding if they will go into a 5'er or not :chin:

things worked out in the HID dept and all but 3 have been under 1000w haildes.
trying out a new brand of Mh, its an Ultra Sun 7500K
too big for my 6" coll tubes so its under a 4ft parabolic hood,
they are taking to it and thriving.

I did fan defo on em last week and the lite is penetrating nicely in the interior areas
these are going to be thick and bushy little gals.
I love the over all shape on the ibg's.

since mo and other said no topping needed I was going to bend the top main stem about 6-8" down and crease it so it lays over,
the rest of the plant sense it's been top'd and
lower branches shoot up and you get a full thick even canopy on each plant usually.
the main top eventually turns and heads up with the others.
I got this from IC master grower Adrift
but many of the ibg's lower branches are doing this naturally
I love this Plant!

here's a few pics of tsi fly's and ot ibg's

tsi flies 1st,
3 are still under T5s
a week behind the ibgs they are a tad 4-6" lower
again, look at the classic structure on them,
I attribute this like the ibg's to the OTMs influence?
picture.php

these Tsi Fly's have been under the MH when they out grew the T5 lamps

I was lucky enough to get 1 male out of the pack of the otibg,
and he is outstanding imo
alone and isolated form the gals he is getting ready for his role in life.
he looks to be a great candidate for stud service and he will be cloned for duty later down the road.
full and bushy!

thought he was going to be a lass'ie for sure

dude looks like a lady!!
