I figured out my base costs to set up a 'personal' grow.

1ea 4' 8 tube T5 high output fixture, 432 watts... $230
1ea fan oscillating ............................................ 50
1ea inline 8" duct fan ........................................ 35
dry vent, hangers, OSB, 2x4s, reflectix, misc......... 150
Botanicare 2gal 1 probloom 1 progrow................... 100

total..............$585

Electricity (expensive here $.16 Kw Hr).............................$20 month

It looks like I'll get about 1 pound of Bud from the 2 plants. One is harvested and one is lagging behind a bit. But even if I'm over estimating by 50%...... I'm still Pure Gold.

Ya'll smoke it if ya got it.

A pound off of a T5 and 2 plants? Am I missing something? Not trying to talk shit or anything, just wondering.

8 sq ft with a bit over 50 watts a sq ft.,,, No mystery here. the screen is solid with colas 4"-6"s high. No fan leaves to shade bud sites.

In all fairness I don't have a scale to weigh with, so I'm guessing. (But I used to buy bricks, some years ago).

I don't blame you for being skeptical.... I've read elsewhere on IC that you Must have 1000 watts to Bloom Anything.

If you're at all curious, go buy a light and stick it off in the corner. Lolypop 2 plants, put a screen over them to keep the lighted area flat. Veg them until the screen is Full, then go 12/12, and see how long it takes you to start drooling. lol

Keep the leaves picked to let the light hit all the bud sites.....

Note: It does extend the Bloom times by a week or so.... bummer.

I'm not saying that T5s are the answer to large commercial grows. But for personal use they just work. It'd be tough to smoke all that you grow unless you have 'help'...lol

I popped in a link to another thread here on IC. There are a few people playing with tubes,,, and all seem to be happy with the results. (grinning from ear to ear)

I think ole cobs got it dialed. ...and, I don't think you are comparing apples to apples when comparing #s of brick weed and home grown under t5. No offense, you will never get the flower .density from hids. Might be disappointed if you put it of a scale.

That being said. If your happy with the results, then that's what counts. Im sure your happier with your e-bill.

good luck with your grow 2 Legal !

there is not a damn thing wrong with aiming high ...... just DON'T take things personally when folks around here advise you to at least keep your feet on the ground

from the math i see you are going to be able to pay for everything with one good run. and growing your own is priceless

You are right of course. Just a bit surprised at the tenor of responses?

Having a great day. Having sampled some of the #1 plant a bit ago.:biggrin:

All you negative, critical folks, take a deep breath.. Make sure it's lit first however. Now hold it!

Not critical, just playing your other half.
Seriously, pics would rock. And if you do get that off those lights with botanicare than show us the way Sensei...

But if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

I've personally seen some killer t5 grows.

But a LB off of 8 square feet?,..... that's less than a 3x3 footprint.

Not hating on a fellow SCROGer, but my personal best was 7.5ish OZ from a plant that covered pretty much that whole 8 square foot footprint your talking about.

That's all one plant, Screen was 2' wide, just shy of 4' long. (7-7.5 square feet) Strain was Flo

My pics are on the T5 thread that I linked to above.

Each plant had over 50 colas, most well in excess of 4"s long.

But let's not quibble over an oz or two, after all I'm the one who's going to smoke it. lol... Let's suffice it to say that, T5s are a very dependable way for a 'personal' grower to 'grow your own', w/o spending a huge chunk of capital on setup... or on operations.

T5s will NOT be the wave of the future for those who are making a living growing 100 plants perpetually. The only problems I'm looking at are 1: How to dispose of the excess production (really Not a problem lol),,, and 2: Being locked into a location for the duration of a cycle, since I'm retired and relish the freedom of a non-scheduled life.

I worked a long time for a retirement, and 64 was absolutely 'frosting on the cake'.

As to volumes of harvest. A friend of mine ran two plants under CFLs. His weighed production was just over 8 oz for the two plants. He however had mostly golf balls or smaller for Colas. The T5s put out way more lumens, with perhaps a bit less heat, and it's all directed down into the plant 'head'. Oh yes and he didn't have them trained into 'flat tops' either so his 'heads' were probably 3 times as tall as the method I used.

Quite correct.

The downside to a setup like this is the extended veg time needed to grow the plants to that size.

Now... if the T5 could put out that kind of weight with 4" clones and a 7 day veg before flip, it'd be in the class of HID lamps. :)

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

I wish I had the e bills and low temps of a t5 run! Although, I imagine trimming a t5 harvest would suuuuuuck.

To throw the thread off a bad topic here are some of my 20 year old CO bag seed plants. Grown from seed harvested from 20 year old frozen pot. Seems to be alot of variation already!

There is an undercover named Jake running all over the state. Jake works for CO Springs based task force but he has been known to be in several ski resort towns, including Vail, Durango and a friend in Breck said he thinks he saw him their last week. Vail and Durango area resorts are confirmed 100 percent.

His move is to score a little snow, a little herb and some booze like a normal guy looking for a good time. He's good looking and good with ladies, heh. Then start asking about weight and growers.

He is 6 1 or 6 2, brown hair down to his shoulders. Looks like a very believable rich Socal kid in for ski season looking to party. He likes to snowboard and is pretty good. Talks the talk very well.

I work with a girl who works in private security. She found out he was a LEO for 100 percent certain, she saw his papers, spoke to him at length etc. Obviously I won't get into the details of who she is and why he had to tell this to her. He is still in Vail as of a few days ago.

Be careful. I have no experience in this area but I was shocked when I found out. This guy is good. He looks the part to a "t".

I have no info of him being violent but he does carry a piece.

Most deffinetely ran into this douche this past weekend at Vail, I was up there for the mountain games. You nailed it on the head, he is looking to party, and then starts asking really odd questions pushing for growers and weight for sure. I was drinking and still had my wits about me, and figured he was a dumbass that was asking too many questions.
