Philthy...I was looking at another thread about the "full line mix" that you run. Do you still run that? his posts ended a long time ago now and I didn't see where I could buy it.

I am running 1 bale Pro Mix BX 3.8 cu ft, (3) 30lb bags of EWC, and about 4cu ft of perlite as it needed extra for the extra EWC.

I have already used
Bone Meal 6-9-0
Blood Meal 12-0-0
Kelp Meal 0-0-1.5

I will be adding
Diamethous Earth ????
Dr Earth Soft Rock Phosphate 0-2-0
Dr Earth Alfalfa Meal 2-1-2
Neem Cake KIS Organics didn't state
Crab Meal 4-1-0
Fish Meal 10-4-0

It looks to me like I could skip the fish meal, should I?

I also have some Indonesian Bat Guano I would love to use to pick boost the P as it has a 0.5 - 13 - 0.2 Is it safe to all the all this in the mix. Some will be 1/2 cup a cu ft and others at 1 cup a cu ft. I am not sure how much if any fish or bat guano to use but I think it would be a 1/2 cup per cu. ft.

Did you supplier for you mix ever give his ratios away or can you assist me in getting my ratios right. I have most of what he used in his mixes.

Okay, itsame -

So...you have peat, EWC, perlite as your base mix. - but you added 90# of EWC?? And 30 gallons of additional perlite to what is already in Pro-Mix??

I'm not sure the consistency that you'd be getting in that medium - how much volume is 90# of EWC - about 25 gallons or??

How much TOTAL medium do you have to amend, is what I am trying to figure out - and then I'll give you some ratios.

Its about 9 cu ft. I was un able to do parts do to lack of room and no where to break down a a bale of pro mix.

So you have ALL those various base parts in one large soil mix now, totaling about 9 cu ft - or roughly 65 gallons or so...

Have you checked drainage on that mix to make sure your medium is not going to retain too much water?

If so, that shouldn't be to hard to figure - the one big difference you'll see in the mix vs what Phillthy does, is he used FFOF - which has a good amount of various amendments in it as well - so that affects the ratios and how much you'll add yourself...

But roughly 65 gallons total that you are trying to amend, and you have:

bone
blood
kelp meal
Bat guano (high P)
Diamethous Earth
Soft Rock Phosphate
Alfalfa Meal
Neem Cake
Crab Meal
Fish Meal

Do I have all that correct?

okay - you'll want to compost this mix for 4-6wks for best results - or you will be dealing with burning issues, as is common with any mix. Phillthy doesn't experience that as drastically because a portion of his mix is already composted - ie FFOF soil. So the portion of his soil that is "hot" is not as drastic as what you will be dealing with, as none of your medium is previously composted. Also, I do believe that Pro-Mix Bx has SOME lime in it already...and that is also to be taken into consideration when adding lime to balance the pH of a largely peat based medium.

3/4c -bone
1/2c -blood
2c - kelp meal
1 1/2c Bat guano (high P)
1/4c Diatomaceous Earth
1/2c Soft Rock Phosphate (personally I'd skip this)
1/3c Alfalfa Meal
1/3c Neem Cake
1/3c Crab Meal
1/2c Fish Meal
2/3c Azomite
1 1/3c Dolomite (personally, I'd change this to like 1/3c dolo, 1/3c gypsum, 2/3c oyster shell flower)

Now keep in mind - these are not the ratios of the mix you were asking about, but for what you have on hand - those ratios should work just fine and get you through harvest without any difficulty.

*edit* - and in thinking about it - you could probably add another 50% of each ingredient, except DE. I'm not sure the first amounts are enough for a full 65 gallon mix. Also - if you have micronized azomite vs granular changes your ratios. The ratio I listed was assuming granular. If using the micronized, then use about 30% less.

Since I didn't have most of the meals and guano I can't use the entire mix this run.

I have had the EWC, Pro Mix BX, D. Lime, Bone, Blood, Kelp mixed and wet for about 3 weeks. What can I top dress with and feed them tea with and what does no good as a top dressing.

I know I can make guano tea from Indonesian bat and Peruvian Seabird. I would like to add the dia. earth and the neem cake for pest control this round. Does that sound do able? What can I top dress with/not. What can be added to the mix at 1 to 2 weeks before transplanting?

If I can add those for pest control I can make some ACT TEA for flower....Any input is appreciated.

P.S. I hope this is not inappropriate for the thread and if so I am very sorry. Just LMK and thanks for such a great organic grow :D

I don't make ACT so I can't really give the most solid advice on that. For that you actually should go to the organic soil sub-forum and talk to either CT_Guy or Microbeman - they are the ACT brewing pros.

I personally don't like "top dressing". I think it works FINE outdoors when you are growing a full season, but indoors under quicker cycles and taking into consideration break down times / availability rates - you are really just leaching very small amounts each watering...

You are much better of to go the ACT route or a truly fully amended soil route...

The one ingredient if adding that you MUST allow time to cook for is blood meal. If you've already given that portion of the mix a bit of time to compost, you can get by with mixing in the rest - planting and growing - but I'd still, add that additional stuff into the soil, mix in real well and give it another 3 weeks.

The whole beauty of fully amending a medium is so there is no real need to use ACT, foliar sprays, etc. - the simplicity and the whole perk is in being able to get from seedling to harvest with only water. I know once you start adding 10+++ items the concept of simplification may seem lost in the equation - but, eh - for me it's all about bio-diversity.

Truth is you can go start to finish with just blood, bone, kelp, lime. But I truly believe you can get healthier SOIL with more diversity - and thus by default healthier, more productive plants.

I'll not play all holy than thou - and say there aren't times when I'm out of various soil amendments and I find my plants looking less than perfect - so I have my cheat shelf of bottled nutrients that I use in a pinch:

General Organics Cal/Mag
Sunleaves Liquid Guano (N)
Budswel Liquid Guano (yellow jug - P)
Earth Juice Meta-K
Thrive Alive B1 (green label - organic)

9/10 times these things expire long before I ever make it through even half a bottle. It goes without saying, all of those things are bested by a fresh, properly made ACT.

Very true and I am still learning about what does what in the soil. I see a noitcable difference in my clones and the roots I am getting just from the base blood, bone, lime, EWC heavy :D but the Neem cake, dia earth, etc etc I am learning and I agree about the beauty is the simplicity. I haven't had to mix up anything and I love it. Just run my awesome well water at 95 hardness right out of the tap and it is near 6.5-7 ph too.

Usually I see a lot of roots at the bottom and not up and down the six inch containers.....These are loaded with super white roots that look super healthy. I sure hope the FEDS pull their heads out of the butt of the NWO and gives America legal cannabis. We should all have access to this information without worry. I have seen philthy's grows for awhile and this has easily been one of the best long running grow threads for a long time. I just used to get confused with so many different growing style choices it was hard to find the right one for me. I have it now!

Awesome news itisme...always pleased to hear there is another convert to living / organic soil!

You can't beat the simplicity of a proper organic soil - and the quality is really hard to beat as well. Once I found organic soil I never looked back either...

Ironic part is...once I began truly understanding the hows and whys of a living organic soil - I learned how to grow ANYTHING. I would never have gotten such confidence with general horticulture if had remained stuck in the "bottle culture" ...

Should that be 1/5 or is it correct @ 1.5?

I edited the post for clarity and responded to your PM...lol. ;)
