Here comes the rain

with the massive rain band thats moving down through qld and into nsw,im curious to know what others do with such a large rain event and outside grows. My region is expecting up to 400mm over the next 5 days and today seen me rushing out to my babies and moving them up out of a feeder gully to higher ground, only because i grow in large pots. What precautions do others make, esp those who are growing in the ground??is it hope for the best or is there things you do to minimise the impact...

Gday russ, First good downpour for a while last night. I've only got the one half decent sized plant outside and just put her under cover :) A positive thing however is the growroom is 4 degrees cooler. First time ive seen the temp under 30. Was 28.3 :D Good change from 33. Looking forward to the cooler weather.

I assume we are in close proximity of each other. I have several near creeks in the ground but the creeks are so dry it will take weeks of rain to fill them up and more to flood over into the gardens. This is our first good rain in 6 months or so. In the past i have been flooded out and some fell over and others were washed away completely. I find tying them to a few tall stakes helps in minor floods.

if your as close to me as i think you may be,theres some serious rain coming and i know that my local creeks will burst their banks for sure,i hope your babies stay put :)

The banks are 4to5m where the lady's stand I've been through all the floods of the last 15 yrs. I think I'll be right. But i wil be watching. Most are tied up to 3 stakes minimum . And caged hole patches. I find this helps when the banks break and flood over it keeps the debris from getting to the plants.thanks for your concern. Be safe.

Send some of that rain down south OZ way, we need it bad and it would help put out all those fracking fires in NSW and Vic :gday:

hard rain

What an incredible weather system. Seems to have trashed most of the east coast of Australia. Some amazing rainfalls and wind gusts.

Commiserations to those that have lost/ suffered damage, especially those that are being flooded for the second time in as many years.

My heart goes out to all the people along the east coast of QLD and NSW in the hopes that they survive all that raging water surging through the towns and cities.
Finally got to speak to my mum in FNQ a minute ago and everything up there is all good, just no phones mobile or landlines because the telstra phone exchanges in Brisbane are all under water, haven't been able to ring QLD for a few days now, but text messages are intermittently going through, thank the gods.

this rain is crap, weve had 450mm in 2 days, alot of localised flooding, theres been evacuation orders just put out along the clarence river...im glad this is a el nino not the wet la ninas of the last 7 years (insert sarcastic tone)...be safe everyone....

Have spent the last 6 hours crossing creeks that are now rivers lost a few actually a lot. Heart breaking . I have never seen it fill this quick. At least some in higher spots are ok. Take care everyone.

Stay Safe all you peeps going to check on your plants in the bush near creeks and rivers, wait till the water levels start dropping away, more plants can be grown but lives lost are permanent.
:gday:

Heading up to Bundaberg tomorrow to help a mate out. His house is totally flooded and he's thinking he'll have to knock it down and rebuild. Bit early to say for sure. Gonna try and save a few items if possible. Can't get near the house yet due to the water. Looking like i'll have a few house guests for a bit.
