Sad News

Very, very sad news. One of my plants is a hermie. Just noticed it this morning. It's popping bananas out of all the top flowers. There was a little bunch of hermie flowers lying on one of the leaves. I removed it from the grow room but fear my other plants have already been seeded. I opened up some of the calyxes and there where little green balls/seeds in it. I hope I will have a decent amount of good smoke left.

The pics aren't that clear but I think you can see the damage.

A little seed I found in a bud:

The culprit, shame really:

Guess I'll be making more hash than I counted on. Is this what I get for buying cheap feminized seeds? Out of the 5 one was a mutant (already destroyed), one is a runt and one is a hermie. Really hope the others aren't seeded all the way through. Next time I'll try seeds that weren't feminized.

(Edit: Don't know if this means anything but the pistils on the plant that hermied were way fatter than the pistils on the other plants. The buds themselves were shaped differently too. But maybe this is a pheno issue.)

Honestly, I dont see how you could get a hermie unless you had a light leak or stressed them somehow. I grow plenty of strains known to hermie, but they never do, not sure if its cuz of my environment or what, but no issues. If it was only one plant, and the pollen sacks are just opening to the top, then the bud may be seeded but the other plants may be fine. Femmed seeds are no better or worse for hermies than standard seeds, at least from my experience, hermies are usually stress induced.. Can you rule out a light leak?

I don't think I have a light leak because I turn off the 600W lamp at night and the room the tent is in is completely dark during "night time". The only stress I can think of is overfeeding. I had been feeding at full strength. Yeah I hope the other plants are fine, they are looking good still. Will do a picture update in a couple of days.

Feminized seeds don't have a higher herm rate i they're made the right way, for example if to get feminized seeds they used stress the you got yourself higher rates, but If you use stressless method such as spraying different soliutions on plants you shouldn't get any hermies unless you stress them out like hell.

I really don't think I stressed it like hell, I mean it looked nice and green and grew real fast. That particular plant did have leaf curl since very early on but I thought it was a pheno issue. I think my environment is ok, maybe slightly hot but not serious. Next time I will go easier on the nutes. Last week I gave plain tap water without nutes.

Here is another picture update. Day 46 of 12/12 (day 73 total)

This bud is from the hermi plant. It tastes real nice, like lime. Didn't find any more seeds in there.

More pictures! As you can see the buds are foxtailing pretty bad but I don't mind. I think they are pretty.

The past three weeks I have been giving nothing but plain tap water. I was afraid I overfed them so I didn't give them anymore nutes. I think I will give them another 5 days or so and then harvest.

Excellent and keep up the great growing....:)....

You just have to give us the final dry weight when it's all said and done as well..:D

Day 59 of 12/12 (day 86 total)

Decided to harvest today. I checked the trichomes with a microscope and according to my limited knowledge they were about 50% milky and 50% amber. Here are the plants after cutting the fan leaves:

This is the runt:

I will do a smoke report later and let you know the dry weight.

Thanks kushedphantom, will do. All in all I'm quite pleased with the result. I definitely have enough to smoke for the next few months.

Here's a pic of one of the buds, a few days away from going into glass jars.

I started cleaning the buds today and will dry them in this rack for another couple of days, then let you know the dry weight. After that, as I said cure them in glass jars.
