Is the real grapefruit still around?

M

Did you grow it? I did, and wouldn't call it "a lot of hype". SOTF was a bit over-the-top in his exuberance, but it's a damn nice plant as well as smoke. It's also among the most effective that I've found in a topical oil.
It's also great as an edible in coconut oil for my wife's pain and nausea. I've gotten some extremely good smoke out of those seeds, seriously fantastic stuff that will always have a place in my garden.

------

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Grapefruit grail project: my hunt for a pheno thread... I don't know if seeds are available, but if you are interested in grapefruit flavor, that thread makes for some very interesting reading. If I remember right, there are several mentions of different strains where grapefruit flavor might be found. The author clearly has quite a bit of dedication and passion for that unique taste :D

Have you tried this topically? I also use coconut oil as a base, and it is amazingly effective for muscle spasms or general aches & pains. So far my friends have used it for arthritis, diabetic nerve pain, bad knees, and any type of muscular discomfort, all with great success. The only variety that I've seen that comes anywhere close to Sweet Tooth for this application is a local clone-only called Purple Crack, so I made some seeds from the two. I haven't grown any of it yet, but it should be interesting.

I would deff only check out grapefruit strains that use the original/real deal sweet pink grapefruit clone. I have't seen too many breeders using the real clone chimera's gf x bb would prolly be the best I would think if you can manage to get a pack. If not I would research breeders and their strains that use the real spg clone and make your decision then I have never tried the spg but I have read its some bomb I also believe federation seeds Island sweet skunk has the spg in it that might also be a good one to look through and also make f2's with.

Alpine Seeds has recently released a Sweet Pink Grapefruit IBL. Very dedicated breeder from switzerland with high standards (morally and quality wise). It was bred with the goal of resembling the original cut as close as possible. Took him 4 years of breeding before releasing it.

Hey Chimera,
How does 1.1 compare to Sweet Tooth #4? Someone recently told me that #4 is said to be high in CBD. (BTW Mental Floss was great) VG

Hey VG,

I've not grown the #4 recently available, which was an inbred knockoff of the original.... I'm more interested in original lines than inbred, one off knockoffs from flash in the pan types.

These lines are not high in CBD, maybe 5% of the THC fraction which is not very high in the GF lines compared to the kushes etc.... you are looking at somewhere between 14%-18% THC, so less than 1% CBD which is not considered high.

The GFxBB (1.1) is a really nice combination of the grapefruit and blueberry... it adds more yield to the berry while maintaining the 'fruity' terpene profile, and has a more upright stature and resin content to the spg with some added colour.

The main reason I prefer this line to the SPG backgross lines, is that the GF has some really negative traits that are amplified by backcrossing- like the root bound autoflowering that occurs when a root tip hits a container wall. It's why you dont see anyone keeping mothers of these lines... with the hundreds of thousands of seeds sold, you would expect people to still be running them... but because of the tendency for the mothers to autoflower, keeping moms of SPG backcross lines is a hassle.

You are seeing a lot of companies now start selling GF hybridsand I suspect that some of these cuts are impostors... so if you are serious about an SPG plant or seed, be sure to verify that you are getting the seeds from someone who actually has the authentic BC cut.

If you look around you can find these for a really decent price right now, some companies are running sales on these lines, and I'm going to suggest that SB offer them at a similar price when they arrive.

Hope that helps,

Quick question chimera. Was wondering which blueberry male was used in the gf x bb cross?
Still have a great shot of you in a room with two lights and a ton of red cups going. Sitting on a bucket with bubbler in hand just watching them grow. I find myself doing this all the time:)

The same blueberry inputs that were used for the other BB lines in our catalog- B130 was just one of the pollen sources.

Ah yes.. that photo; best case of false propaganda in an MJ grow book. I'd never put my true likeness in any cannabis related publication... that pic has led to a few different people walking right past me looking for the goofy guy in sunglasses holding a doubler. ;)

Thanks for the quick response chimera.
Have been very interested in the gf x bb for awhile and looks like I will be picking some up soon. Any specific traits or special plants to look for?

And thank you for clearing up that picture for me. Looked like a nice bubbler at least lol

a highly suspected gfxbb, from a pack of chimeras ultimix is the biggest yeilder in my grow room at the min , the mother does have a very slight auto flower trait too but nothing to put me off the clones always grow out perfect !

the stems are floppy though and cant support the buds , but maybe thats just an expression of how obese and heavy the buds become lol

very quick too 55 days its its perfect and fully ripe !! would be my top pick of anyone looking for big yeild and quality , mine is blue too , everyone who see's it in the jar comments on its colour
