I'm just saying the scouts must have seen something that they liked in smith more so than rodgers due to the fact that they could have chosen either and elected to go with smith. my only point was that ANY qb would have failed in sf under Singletary, just horrible decisions across the board(goin for it on 4th and long in your own backfield constantly...really?) The coaching staff has the responsibility to put their players in a position to win, which rarely happened.

obviously having a good coaching staff plays a huge roll in turnovers/interceptions otherwise the niners wouldnt have tied gb for 1st in the turnover differential a year after singletary left, although I agree that there is a level of experience and maturation that has occurred and will continue to occur...imho smith's rookie season was 2011...he never had a legitimate chance before that.

now I'm not sayin #11 will put up huge numbers, the niners offense is still evolving, but I do think smith will have a respectable year(better than last) and although he may never be considered an "elite" Qb people will have to start recognizing the fact that he's a legitimate threat.

and as for bettin on the boys...9 game parlay and it was an easier game to pick than some...I'm small time $1-$2 bets on bovada

Word up, I never bet on the cowboys for whatever reason I don't like betting on the team i cheer for, I am more concerned with my team winning rather than covering, makes watching my team more satisfying...That being said I rode the tail of the niners last year they were excellent against the spread and they actually won me some cash believe it or not, but this year the vegas wise guys are well aware of the niners team and they're gonna get paid more attention to.

I believe the problem with the cowboys is that their coaching its just plain right terrible. Perfect example: Martellus Bennett TE for the giants was on the cowboys 4 seasons before that, the cowboys coaches only managed to get him 4 TD's in those 4 seasons, this years he has already 3 TD's and is looking like a stud. Jason Witten or not that dude should have been a contributor on that Dallas team somehow, just plain and simple terrible coaching, I feel Romo gets such a bad rep because of it and he takes the blame for a lot more than himself most the time, he literally has won a lot of games covering the holes of his defenses I truly believe that. But Jerry Jones needs to back off the personnel and let his football people make the football decisions, just because he was third string waterboy on that 60s or 70s ( dont know which) undefeated Arkansas SEC team which wasn't truly the SEC of today, doesn't mean he knows how to draft players or make big boy football decisions. He know how to make money and thats about it, don't get me wrong as a fan I appreciate him being a owner that genuinely wants to win and is willing to spend the money for it, but he just needs to back off when it comes to coach/player personnel.

Whad, Love those small time bets give you so much excitement! Also good talking football its a nice break from the weed sometimes, felt like we were Mike and the Mad Dog for a moment, used to listen to them religiously as a kid....Brings back good memories on top of that a friend and myself in college did a small sports talk radio on the local school station, kind of lame I admit but still was fun friends would call up plus we got to play around with all that equipment with out any supervision....anywho I am with you on most games the only the couple I am different on are:

bengals over the skins...
Bear over Rams

I love your Cards over Eagles pick I am all over that one tmrw and agree tough one on the hawks game but I would take the pack too, until they show you you shouldn't take them you stick with them.

Rodgers is better than Smith. Smith has middling accuracy, which actually has improved over time, but he's still not as accurate as Rodgers. Smith also throws a ball with a rather flat trajectory, which maybe lends itself to getting defensed better (knocked down, broken up).
He still can make enough plays with his arm and his legs to win playoff games, as he demonstrated last year against the Saints, leading his team to a come from behind win. He's tough, physically and now finally mentally. He's got the support of the coaches behind him; instead of telling him not to take sacks, forcing him to dump off or throw away balls or worse throw a hasty, errant pass, now Harbaugh tells him not to be afraid to take a sack. Just play football, smart football, and try to make a play.
I'm impressed the team stuck by him through all his average seasons, but i guess they realized that he's averaged 1 new OC every year he's been in the league so they cut him some slack...

Patriots and Ravens. I am rooting for the Patriots of course, I am cautiously oprimistic that they will get over their funk and play. Go patriots!!!

Titans are having a rough start this year. If they don't start winning they will have to fire the head coach. People hate on Chris Johnson now but it's really the offensive line that's doing bad. It was bad last year, too, but he still was able to rush for over 1000 yards, barely.

Most of my fantasy leagues this year I picked Arron Rodgers first, on the leagues where I had a chance to. I've ended up with Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, Arian Foster, Doug Martin, Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte, and Michael Turner as running backs. They've all been solid so far and unfortunately Matt Forte got injured. The Falcons don't run Michael Turner hard anymore but he is usually a goal line RB and good for 1 or 2 TD's a game. I picked up NY giants backup RB, Andre Brown, this past week in one of my leagues. That guy has been getting quite a few points since Ahmad Bradshaw has been out.

Peyton better wear double underwear today. He's about to get his ass beat.

The Manning domination over the Texans ends today. Texans D is all over this guy today.

Baba, couldn't have said it better my self agree with you 100% and your right it amazing Smith has stuck around this long, some QB's get dumped quick, look at Vince Young....But all that a side I am sure Smith has work his balls off year in and out to remain competitive, a lot of guys have trouble doing that.

Watts, I don't know why but I feel like The Tenn coach is not bad, obviously his record doesn't reflect that but that O-line should be good and I believe that if Chris Johnson wanted all that top money then play like it, so what your o-line isn't great make a play CJ2K thats your job.....Barry Sanders was able to become a HOF without having a decent o-line all those years, he is a extreme example but you get my point...Also sounds like your team is loaded up with RB's, lol, are you in a 8,10, or 12 player league???? I would start Gore and Foster as the two RB's and then Lynch or Martin as a Flex if you have one, just my 2 cents....

Skinny leaf, Texans look good and to be honest its probably them and the niners that are probably the better teams as of today.

O and by the way for you west coast guys, that is so awesome football starts at 10am for you guys and gals....some serious wake and bake i bet goes on 9-10am sundays in cali, lol...I was just thinking about that for some reason, been so used to game at 1 and 4 in my head is just like that everywhere, probably cause I ain't that smart, ,lol...

Good luck to everyones teams:
Arizona +3.5
NO - 9
Balt -3

My underdog game here is the viks +7...don't think they'll beat the niners but I think they keep close for some reason, plus I just don't like how its only +7. Tons of people must be taking the niners today....I think the wise guys in vegas like this game for the viks to be honest....

niners losing their first game away from home.

Edit: Forgot their home opener was an away game @ greenbay. That was a big win. Crazy they lost to the vikings though.

Another reason Alex Smith has stuck around so long is that he's generally been a classy guy. He could have complained about the dysfunction, the bad coaching and playcalling, threw his teammates and coaches under the bus. He certainly has been criticized enough, labeled a bust because he was a #1 overall pick, and who would have blamed him for lashing out? But he kept his mouth shut and kept working, gained the respect of his teammates and the organization. Even when the team pursued Peyton, he didn't complain publicly, although he did the smart thing and visited Miami as a potential free agent, and in so doing probably squeezed a few extra dollars out of the Niners.
Cutler could learn a thing or two about class from Alex Smith.

Home games on the west coast always start in the afternoon, but yeah, gotta be rough for a 10am start if your west coast team is playing in the CST or EST zone, especially if you had a late night...

Alex Smith is a good qb.....he's not a game manager nor is he elite.....He's smart and tough......The Steelers Defence makes me sick......that secondary is the worst in the league Ike Taylor has never been more than a back up level corner and he's the best of the bunch...Keenan Lewis...what a joke...Ryan Mundy...another Joke.....The O line is a joke.........We are avgeraging like 2.2 yards per carry on the ground.....Mike Tomlin has had 5 years to get a decent o line together and can't seem to do it.....And the rest of the league has finally caught up with Dick Leabeau so he needs to change up the scheme a bit....I'm still sick to my stomach over that loss....How much do they expect Ben to do by himself.....I would release the whole o line except for pouncey and I would cut the entire secondary except for troy and ryan clark....

baba, good point on smith....

Homer, I feel a lot of people are gonna over rate Smith a bit after only 1 good season. Im ok with people liking him as a QB but I don't think its fair to him that people hype him up so much. If you go back and look at his career he is a option Urban Meyer QB (at Utah) which we all know not many Urban Meyer players games relate to the pros...plus his numbers are pedestrian avg about 15 Td's and 2,600 passing yards a season his career and even when he finally gets some real coaches around he puts up 17Td's and 3k yards passing....I'd just hate to see people put a lot of pressure on him to win a SB cause to be honest his best offensive weapons is his defense...I think we can all agree that Alex Amith is a starter in the NFL but on the lower ends, like I mentioned before how many teams be willing to drop their QB today so they can start Alex Smith over them?

Also Homer, keep your head up its a long season and their is no shame of going out to the west coast Oakland especially and losing at their turf, never an easy place to play plus just having Troy starting makes your D a totally different team never mind Harrison being out on top of it. Plus Run DMC can rush for 100yrds on any team in the league I believe he is that good/aggressive as a runner. Your O-line is in rough shape rookie left tackle and your starting right rookie guard is out for the season (I believe the season, no?)....whenever you have to start 2 rookies on your line that is trouble IMO, especially when you have a great QB like big Ben who was beat up a lot last year, I agree he can't scramble around all game and expect to win, he needs a little time in the pocket at the very least. Think about how much worse niners fans feel than you do you today, I can live losing to a tough Oakland team led by a quality QB in Palmer, I'd be more sick if I had that niners D and gave up 3 TD's to Christan Ponder, I was shocked by that, I admit I liked the viks +7 but I didn't expect them to lose like they did....There is a reason we don't see teams go undefeated ever.

here is just a little early 2012 fun football stat: Peyton Manning + Tom Brady +Drew Brees = 2 wins on the seaon.....Kevin Kolb = 3.....Bizarr-o world in the NFL right now....and lets not forget Kolb was the back up too, lol...

The Rookie Mike Adams is on the bench because he was a revolving door in the pre season....I think he's a bust....David DeCastro is on IR but might be back after like week 8 or 9..might...They re signed Max Starks to play left tackle and he is not smart or fast or strong enough to do the job....shaping up to be a long ass year.thank god there is a bye next week end.......but I bet this steeler team could find a way to loose.......

Ok, I didn't even realize Adams was on the bench I saw him with the first team O all preseason and assumed he was just starting, he didn't look that good in preseason figured that carry over, guess it got him the bench....That be good if you guys can get Decastro back dude is a mauler. Time off cures all and you have one of the best coaches in the league you guys will be just fine.
