Meh. Respect for having more aspirations than being a dope grower.

Don't get me wrong - it's a [fairly] noble cause [for most people]. I'm talking about the ones truly helping genuinely sick people. Not the ones who .. Anyway.

The sad truth is that 98% of the full-time growers I know of are BROKE. Flat broke. Not-a-pot-to-piss-in-broke. And that ain't cool.

It's not a judgement call, but it is an observation worth not glossing over.

Fuck it bobble - I'm with you. This is a vehicle on to the next phase.

Anyone thumping their chest about ZOMG TIL THE DAY I DIE, well, I just hope it's as good to you as a safe, legal, 9-5 might be. Forever is a long time..

WTF? You guys aren't up on the GSCC4BX6GSC2?

Lames

I don't know who you're calling lame. We ran that last year. It had no smell til it was cut then it smelled like Mass on the third Sunday after Easter if they served girl scout cookies. It cured in three days and looked like blueberry muffins sprinkled with confectioners sugar. We got 437 grams per square foot under CFL's. There are people who still haven't come down.

Then we switched to Big Bud.

True happiness is BEING happy with whatever you experience at the present moment. It is NEVER about the future. Happiness can only be experienced here and now, and ONLY here and now...UNCONDITIONALLY!

What we normally consider happiness is simply a feeling of success or relief, it is NOT true happiness.

This is why what we mistakenly consider to be happiness is ALWAYS temporary!

Dreams, are simply the "invisible cheese" that keeps you running on the wheel, inside the cage. The cheese (dream) is not meant to make you happy, it is a part of the SURVIVAL IMPULSE, and so, it has been designed to keep you running, to keep you surviving as a "conceptual-self."

This is a very important distinction to grasp if TRUE happiness is something that you want to actually experience.

Because if you don't make this distinction and can't simply BE happy with whatever you experience - (including being happy when everything is NOT working out the way you want) - then your only option is to suffer through life with occasional feelings of temporary success and/or relief after reaching goals/dreams...etc.

...but this will ALWAYS and only be temporary.

To sidestep conceptual-self-survival, which occurs for most people 100% of the time - (mouse running on the wheel chasing the cheese that he/she will never actually get, since it is an illusion) - being happy with whatever is occuring on a moment to moment basis is the only way to be truly happy.

The most important question is do you want to be happy or do you want to suffer and struggle as you keep running after the cheese?

Take into account as you get closer and closer to the cheese, it automatically gets moved farther away. This MUST happen, so that you will continue to survive, to keep running and running.

Conceptual-self-survival is NOT about getting the cheese. Because it is a special kind of cheese, and as you go to grab it - it moves away far enough to keep you running along.

This is WHY we are never happy with anything for long.

If you want to see how you are surviving, just imagine yourself completely free of any worry, in total peace, no dreams, no goals, just sitting on a secluded beach, with zero thoughts, simply watching the sand and the surf, and listening to the waves and the birds.

...and contrast this with your everyday life....moment-by-moment.

...that should give you a small glance and feel of what conceptual-self-survival is really all about.

But the most interesting distinction to make is that we will NOT survive. No matter how hard we try, we will lose the race. We will die. There is no way we can avoid this, no matter how hard our conceptual-self tries to block this out of our awareness, death is the ultimate test of what IS and what is-not.

what IS always remains, what is-not is always and only temporary.

CONSIDERATION: If the purpose (survival) can't ever be realized, then there is never an experience of completion or freedom possible here. The whole pursuit is ALWAYS toward what ISN'T...it is never toward what IS.

The present moment is already what it is. There is nothing that needs to be pursued or attained.

Since our whole experience is dominated by what isn't (thoughts about the past or projections about how the future will be) we ignore the here and now, and by doing this, we turn our back on true happiness.

Being happy is about being happy with WHATEVER we are experiencing in our life at this exact and only moment.

It is NOT about being happy when certain conditions (goals, dreams, etc) are realized and reached.

lol I could have saved you a whole lot of typing if you would have simply asked me if I'm happy with what I'm doing. The answer: yes. But since you want to get all philosophical on me... Here's a piece of my mind. :tiphat:

What is happiness? Happiness is subjective. What makes you happy isn't what makes me happy. For some living for the moment makes them happy. I've spent many night drinking beers with "friends"... I spent many nights staying sober and driving those same "friends" around to make sure they got where they were going safely. I was just being selfish though, because I wanted the personal satisfaction of knowing that I got them where they were going safely. It made me feel good, and made me happy.

I've worked many jobs that put money in my pocket... and that money bought me things... clothing, shelter, food... Those things satisfy needs and make me happy, but the work I do to attain them certainly doesn't. I went to school to learn about the financial system in hopes of learning how to manipulate it and get on the fast track to wealth... but that just left me more dissatisfied than ever.

Helping people makes me happy. Going to school to learn how to better help people is going to create more pleasure for me in the future. Maybe the thought about 12 years in school sounds horrible to some people... but I enjoy it! Going to class brings me pleasure! I would rather do that than go to work any day of the week. When I'm done with school, I'll have my choice of jobs given my background. I'm not gonna be a doctor, I'm looking at administration after a few years of clinical experience. I'm well aware of the baggage that comes with an administrative position, this isn't something I'm going into blindly. It's a 24/7/365 job. I don't live to work, I work to live. I'm striving to get where I want to go so that I can make a good living for me and my future mine, and not have financial concerns in my golden years... When I should be enjoying myself.

Don't get it twisted. I live my life my way. Dissatisfied? Always. Unhappy? Never. Most people are jealous of me. I am jealous of no man. I'm living the dream.

and I just met a hot 20yr old... so that helps... :D

do what makes you happy but a 6 fig job in healthcare will come with its own baggage.

peace bro

I'm more aware than you know...

...and for a good peek at that baggage spend some time on the forums at Student Doctor Network...ouch.

Of course, if you're looking into management, that's a whole different story.:)

Yes, administration... I wouldn't want the headache of being an MD.

Doing the above is NOT true happiness. It might be called experiencing a feeling of victory or relief. It is a desire to have a result at some time in the FUTURE, with a temporary feeling of accomplishment or success once this result is reached. Take into account that CURRENTLY you can only be happy if the result that you achieve is in sync with your expectations of that result.

Would you be happy if you drove them home, and got into an accident, even though you were sober? Most likely not, right?

Are you happy with WHATEVER you experience in your life? Good or bad?

True happiness is when you are happy NO MATTER WHAT you are experiencing, even if it is what you DON'T WANT. It is also something that happens in the present, and is not based on a desire of something that will be reached or accomplished in the future.

Confusing true happiness with a temporary feeling of victory or relief is one of the things that keeps us running on the wheel chasing the cheese.

Think about it. If you were happy with what IS now, unconditionally, you will not attempt to persist, to survive as the self that you believe that you are.

In order to get you to run 24/7/365 - we need for you to be UNHAPPY with what you have now, and a belief that you will be happy in the FUTURE, when you get the cheese (goal that you desire).

And that is what we have in your life now, right?

In my opinion...yes...and I think you will see that also if you read the second paragraph below about your long-term plans a couple of times.

You spell out what the CHEESE is, and you are already running toward it. The interesting thing is that when you get close to reaching that age, and if you are getting closer to your goal, the CHEESE will continue to be moved into the future, so that you will be unhappy with what you have in that current moment.

This trick that the self-mind pulls on you (without you being aware of it) is what will keep you running toward the cheese, in a similar way that you are doing now, and are planning to keep running in the future. In order to see this you have to look at yourself without all the beliefs and assumptions that you currently hold. This is NOT easy. In fact it is one of the toughest things for a human to accomplish. It is hard because we perceive reality through these beliefs and assumptions. And this makes it almost impossible to see what IS actually there. But, from reading your posts, I think you can pull it off.

I'm striving to get where I want to go so that I can make a good living for me and my future mine, and not have financial concerns in my golden years... When I should be enjoying myself.

It is tough for you to see that your conceptual self is focused completely on the FUTURE. You are running after the cheese that you will never be able to grab. And I want to point out that you actually believe that this makes you happy. While I assure you that what you are actually experiencing - is a mixture of pleasure and pain (struggle/suffering...etc.)

It takes serious contemplation to see this self-principle at work, but in your writing it is crystal-clear that you are doing what I call conceptual-self-survival. You have your desire (cheese) clear-in-sight and you are ready to run toward it UNTIL retirement, after which you believe you will finally get to ENJOY yourself.

This is a TRAP that our self-mind sets-up for us. You are currently caught in it 100% and you can't even see it, because it all comes to you AS your reality.

Do take into account that none of us perceive reality directly. The best our perception can do is create secondary interpretations of the unkown phenomena that is occuring in our awareness on a moment to moment basis. And the MEANING that our self-mind gives each interpretation is based on our beliefs and assumptions. And these are composed of interpretations and meanings that our self-mind has made in the past.

So, we are seeing our beliefs and assumptions, and believe that we are seeing reality.

Don't get it twisted. I live my life my way. Dissatisfied? Always. Unhappy? Never. Most people are jealous of me. I am jealous of no man. I'm living the dream.

I am sure you are living your life your way. If you actually notice the distinctions I mentioned above, you might see what is obvious and crystal-clear from the side. If you don't, you will continue to live in your memories of the past and in your projections of the future, but rarely, if ever, actually being present, in the here, and now.

Since this is the only moment (here and now) where you can be truly happy, you might miss out on the only moments that actually count.

The present moment is the ONLY moment. There is never a moment that is not here and now...btw. Future projections and past memories are all in your thinking, they are obviously not objectively real. You are remembering a moment from the past and projecting into the future in the present moment, but that content is not REAL, they are simply concepts in your self-mind.

And this self-mind is manipulating that content in a way that keeps you running toward the cheese!

and I just met a hot 20yr old... so that helps... :D

...helps to keep you running!

...That invisible-cheese is an amazing thing isn't it?

Death is the stripping away of these illusions. It shows there is no cheese, and that there never was any. Death is what IS.

What remains after death is real. What fades away was illusion.

Have you read the book Who Moved My Cheese? I feel like that is where this coming from... lol

I have goals... and when I finish them, I set new goals (move the cheese). To assume that I will only be happy once I reach my ultimate goal of being a healthcare administrator would make an ass out of u and me. Like I said, I am happy now, in the moment. Does my anxiety (drive to obtain the cheese) bother me sometimes and interrupt my happiness? Certainly. When I make my 3hr drive each way to my lake house... I'm grateful for my truck, my house, my plants, the trees on the side of the road, the fresh air once I get out of the city, that bald eagle circling in the sky... I'm not just caught up in the grow, focused only on the harvest. I'm grateful for having woke up with air in my lungs, with 10 fingers and 10 toes and all 4 of my limbs working. I celebrate my body every day by using it. Doing a bodybuilding show and getting on stage was one of the most unhappy moments in my life.... But the path I went down to get there taught me a lot about what does/doesn't make me happy. So believe me, I know the difference between being happy in the moment, and being happy once I've achieved a goal. Life is not about the goal, but the journey I am led on and the people I meet on the way. To suggest that none of that matters and I'm only concerned with the end result is wrong.

There's no reason I can't chase my cheese and be happy at the same time... There's a difference between being dissatisfied and unhappy. Dissatisfied means there's room for improvement. Unhappy means I'm ungrateful for my blessings. Am I ungrateful some of the time? You bet. Most of the time now I live in the moment, and try not to worry about the future because I have a path and all I have to do now is follow it. Growing is a stepping stone to my career. My career is a stepping stone to retirement. Retirement is the final journey before death. After death, all that you leave behind is your legacy. Even in death, I will be remembered for a long time by the lives I have and have yet to touch. A man living solely for self-satisfaction will leave behind nothing when they die.
