If you are on a budget but can afford insulating board. I would wrap the room in something like house wrap. Then seal all of the seams with a good tape like gorilla tape. Then cover the insulation with refletex and tape the seams with foil tape. All available at your big box store. You should have a tight room. Even if I used batt insulation and plywood. I would still wrap the room and use refletex. Just my thoughts.

now THAT sounds like something i can do!!!!!! cheap ans sweet!!! thanks alot for that idea ijim. i get the insulation from the heat and refection at the same time. still gotta prce that stuff out though and see what it all will run me.

although i didnt plan to deal with the walls until later, this makes it possible to deal with them right now.

would you think that i could do the same thing for the ceiling as well to keep that heat out. i want to eventually (during the winter) install a attic vent fan; i saw one in HD for $78 with a 1000cfm rating with a thermostat, without doing the math, i think would do me just fine for a 9x12x9 space.

what say you?

update over the weekend

update over the weekend

i was able to take down most of the hardware on the door and screw the door into the frame like i was talking about. the frame was really rotten in certain spots near the bottom but its holing up well.

more dust then i'd like to deal with but im still alive for the most part. thought i had some masks laying around from previous jobs but found nothing.

im looking at things and i can get alot done during the weekend more so than i can during the week so saturdays are going to be my main work days it looks like.

next thing im gonna do is take the studs off of the frame of the old cab boards, attach teh boards to the door, then seal it all up with the greatstuff.

ok this past weekend i was able to get the 2x4 off of the OSB boards so i'll be screwing those in place against the garage door.

theres a good amount of 2x4 lengths left so i may just take some and make some sort of work bench or a low veg chamber like i saw on another room build recently.

nxt items to get are the cans of greatstuff and seal all of the spaces and cracks; then its the vent fan. everything else is mainly set up so its gonna be about popping seeds and waiting.

gonna go ahead and setup and irrigation ssystem for the soil and rock that out/use it since i have it to use. these days i cant really afford to be wasting any manner of supplies. ive got a 55gl baf of soilless mix and nutes, a 55gl bag full of hydroton untouched, a 12x2gl DWC system and nutes, a new space plus many other supplies that i need to use up before i go buying anything else to grow with or taking on anymore challenges outside of what i actually need to do.

get focused and then get gowing!

You use the red coloured Tyvek tape to close the seams.. It's specially designed for that..

I happen to know a thing or three seeing I used to be a General Contractor...I know that the insulboard seems like a cheaper way to go but it really is a PITA (pain in the ass) to work with if you're not used to it.. Sealing all the cracks and shit will be tricky especially if you rush it and break corners or don't cut it at perfect angles...

Just my 2 bits

Good Luck

Use the r-30 fiberglass for the attic and the r-19 fiberglass for the walls and all will be good.

its not an attic space, its a garage roof. there are not rafters or anything of the sort

its just cinder block walls, with a roof on it (roof consisting of: 12'x2"x6"/ C-D grade plywood/ with "those things you cover the roof with" cant remember the name right now)

i think im just gonna grab my wife's camera and take pics so everyone can see what im talking about.

yes yes yes!!!

today/this a.m. the wife took our son to her jobs daycare anyway since the date for the job fair was wrong so that gave/gives me the day to get a few things done in the mancave/grow spot ive got going on.

was finally able to put up that faux wall i was talking about and the drafts/noise has stopped. its so comfortable to be in there and the air be still and not see the smoke from my hookah blow away every couple minutes.

later on im gonna get my tarps up for further privacy. not only will the tarps help with privacy but it will decrease my space and that way ventilating and heating wont be such a chore to do. this winter i will be testing it out, but i want to see what kind of heat i can get from my ballast and lights running during the cold.

i have a standing fan that just became available so im going to use that in the space as well for general air/heat movement of the space.

once again as i sit in there the wheels keep turning and it just seems that there really isnt too much available "mancave space". with the way i have things configured i can set up another rack system an run both 400's at the same time doubling the amount of plant sites i want to run BUT if i want to do that ive definitely gotta put whatever harvest revenue i get right back into the wiring up of the space itself.

today is a damned good day for progress! its soo cool when all of your steps are forward and you really dont have to worry about taking any steps back in order to get forward.

a slow and steady pace coupled with raw focused determination will win me the war!
