I walked to my car one morning about 20 feet from my house and loaded some stuff in the back. When I looked up from closing the door to my car, there was a huge cat in the driveway about 30 feet from me looking down the hill. From tip to tail it stretched across the driveway, I just looked at it and backed up to the front door of the house. When I got to the front door, it sat down and turned to look at me then ran away. Weird encounter, I felt very lucky but at the same time scared as fuck, those things are by far the scariest thing around these parts.

Actually i don't, it should work very well, my have to alter the soil mix a little though. I don't fancy people that just put down ideas and give no reason, you sir are a jerk. I ask a question, i have been trying to use soil in aquaponics with limited success the soil always stays moist because there is no way to let the container drain right out. i was thinking that soil in a smarty elevated should drain out enough to make aquaponics work, therefore i asked people with smart pot experience for their take on my views.

All you did was to come off like............., you know what? :moon:

Can anyone tell me if they think this would/would not work?

1)The Organic's in the soil should not harm the fish.

2)The smart pot will keep the soil out of the water.
Just need to keep the smarty elevated

one problem (i think) is the amount these trees transpire, is it a high percentage of the water your currently feeding (i think its boobs that said about 3 gall a day)or does most of that run off.

I never used a smarty or grow such large trees, i want to grow aquaponic heirloom tomatoes.

Well Fill, I certainly wouldn't wish pot thieves on anyone. But the idea of a picture of a meeting between a unsuspecting dirtbag thief and your patrol kitty is pretty funny.

Well you do raise a valid point Oldrod WHY do this?????? My answer is; what if? :tiphat:
What if you turn on your tap and only get half the water you needed? that mean you get half the output your looking for, what if the current source water is tainted? then you get no output at all a chemical targeted specifically at MJ that is safe to put into the water supply hasn't been invented but, what if?.
:woohoo:But mostly because i think it is cool.:woohoo:

I love How this Site's members help each other, straight off the bat, ClearBarbedFunk highlighted the biggest obstacle witch i did not even think about. "How get the run off water right to reuse" Is the water run off from these organic soil mixes toxic to fish? I know the recirculating nature of such a system would ultimately require different soil mixes, so stuff you feed heavy into the initial mix due to leaching faster you would have to put less of it now because it cant leach out a closed system, the mix may very well have to be pretty watered down as compared to what is currently used and the top dressing would be reduced significantly or it may work the same way just saving on water.:dunno:

Sorry if i am wrong about thinking water and nutrent conservation is revelent in this tread, more so than others, i can only imanage if these growers of large trees in huge green houses could get the same growth with half the work, they would be interested. well i am spreading the idea anyways.............:thank you:

 This single statement nullifies any else you say until you redeem your self. Tell me why this is a bad idea.

sounds like a great idea....How are you going to supprt the heavy ass smarties tho? and would the roots dangle from the bottom of the smaarties down into the water?? Out the box thinking like this is where big improvements to modern technology and/or paradigms occur.... again, great idea...my goal is to have a zero runoff aqua ponics setup in a greenhouse using compost piles to heat through the winter.

The system is widely in use in some countries, but mostly for the production of rice.

The biggest problem would be, I think, in ensuring that the root area doesn't stay too wet. Using "swamp-pots" might help to address this issue.

I believe it is your stupidity that we are all in danger of , go back to school and learn something besides how small your brain really is......and if you think getting trees is just planting in cow shit, go for it moron, and sorry all for the rant I just hate stupid people bashing others !!!

Spray that shit up if you have any doubts. Do it in the morning and let them dry on a sunny day. Don't get paranoid. Trust your gut.

dont be dumb, don't get smart, you better be kidding me

Cow shit works for 10000 years, you don't know better. You just buy the company line

I have to pipe in here and point out that while cow manure makes a good compost/soil addition because it adds organic material into the soil it rates among the worst for the nutrients it adds back. All manure is good manure though.

You have no idea what I use.....I dont ever buy bagged bs for outdoor beauties, I do it the way it is supposed to be done...make it and mix it myself!!!!
