When did guns start symbolizing Freedom? As I smoke this joint...I find that ironic.

Back in the day 1770's the founders who over threw a foreign ruler felt that one of the first things government would try to take in order to control the people would be freedom of speech.

The SECOND greatest threat to FREEDOM in their mind was the government trying to take away your GUNS.

Those fools never even considered that the government would try to take flowers away from anyone.

I wish you were twirling your revolvers while you smoked your flowers and celebrated your freedom.

LOL....who says I'm not? I'm just not under the illusion..that they provide me a freedom. It's a different time my friend. Guns have advanced in their technology. Why are full automatic weapons banned? Why does no one argue that one?

i guess you think that increasingly regular mass killings and gun crime is a fair price to pay for the 'right to bear arms' ?

That is like saying the increasing life expectancy of white males is the price I have to pay.

"Regular Mass Killings?" I must be missing something, pretty sure gun deaths in AmeriKa have been falling since 1990.

If mass killings really are the price of UNLIMITED gun freedom, then I say bring it on. If the only thing keeping me from death by homicide is the liberal mother government, then let me die a bloody swiss cheese death.

But I see your argument as similar to "Are countless hundreds of houses burning down every year the cost of my freedom to have electricity in my house?"

Again the hypocrisy of pointing a government gun in my face and ordering me not to possess a firearm is not freedom, and slavery is not a price I am willing to pay for your governments ILLUSION of safety.

i think that by anybody's standards there are a lot of mass killings in the USA, whether they have been falling or not...

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/research/hicrc/firearms-research/guns-and-death/index.html

1. Where there are more guns there is more homicide
2. Across high-income nations, more guns = more homicide.
3. Across states, more guns = more homicide
4. Across states, more guns = more homicide

VG, while there are far too many mass killings in the US, gun ownership on a per capita basis is at it's lowest point in our history. How do you reconcile one factor at it's nadir, and the other peaking?

Previously gun ownership was for all of the legitimate reasons listed in this thread, but now the practical gun ownership is tailing off and the nuts still have them simple.
Also these mass killing have nothing to do with traditional gun ownership, all of the Killers have been insecure little bitches who couldn't suck it up and get a reason to be confident so they took it out on innocent people. And what gave them the power and the confidence to carry out they're obscenities? Oh ye that gun that he can pick up anywhere for fuck all money and maybe some of those man killer rounds he got free with his purchase.

i do understand this, i may feel differently if everyone around me was armed to the teeth.
but then it leads to more and more escalation. the criminals get automatic weapons so the citizens have them as well... and imo the society is a whole lot more dangerous

Its possible to get guns in the UK, and hardened criminals often use them - but we get hardly any 'mass killings at the hands of a nutter' because you cant just go to a store and buy a gun on your credit card.

VG

you sir are 100% correct !

the question is how to get the genie back into a bottle that got opened 200+ years ago.

some americans think anything that the government does with,to or around the second amendment is a slap in the face. some of those very same americans would give anything to keep guns out of the crazies hands because without the crazies nobody would have a reason to fuck with the second amendment.

this debate has no simple answers, and in the land of spin nobody really wants to solve shit anyway

IMHO united nations rules will never mean a fucking thing in this country. never have ,never will, period. this whole fucking thing is about a distraction.

the american media loves this shit. it's the perpetual unsolved arguments that are proven to cloud the water, and they just keep throwing that stuff into the mix ....... polarize, polarize, polarize.

FWIW if i could snap my fingers and we could all go back to swords and shields EVERYWHERE i would be all over it

what people some times forget to consider is that in the end, if guns are made illegal, it wil only be the law abiding who give them up. your average criminal is not gonna give up his weapons. so all you achieve is a society of victims who are at the mercy of any criminal with a weapon. this is the big glaring loop hole in banning guns, you end up with only the bad guys having them and where would we be then?

we would be in Venezuela then, as what you described is exactly what happened there when Chavez banned fire-arms.

all criminals have them though... and now many law-abiding civilians as well, to try to protect themselves from all the excessive crime...

the result?

an average of 50 people killed by firearms a week, throughout the year.

the solution?

who knows... as long as people are stupid, they will do stupid things, guns or not imo...

Exactly - what we have is a mental health problem, not a gun ownership problem. This also goes back to what VG was pointing out earlier as an answer that he didn't understand - the good guys should be armed. Do you think that these little weenies would be pulling this shit if they knew that there would be an instant reply in kind? No, they are going for environments where they know that law-abiding people will be unarmed.

What the hell is a "man-killer" round? Any bullet is potentially a "man-killer round".

guys i appreciate the civil discussion about this, i thought i'd get flamed - i guess there's still time :D

VG, while there are far too many mass killings in the US, gun ownership on a per capita basis is at it's lowest point in our history. How do you reconcile one factor at it's nadir, and the other peaking?

afaik there are still 90 guns for every 100 americans, and 85 fatal shootings per day

you are right that gun ownership is falling, but there are still twice as many assault deaths per 100k population than any other OECD country. America is an unusually violent country for it's 'type'
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ix-facts-about-guns-violence-and-gun-control/

imo the mass killing thing, its a tough one, but it seems that one perpetuates another in a 'copy cat' type of way. in the states it now seems to be the ultimate personal form of 'going out with a bang'.

posting 1 or 2 youtube videos is one thing, but 20 links in 1 post? it's a bit overkill in my opinion and isnt effective either, as there is so many i just pass them by, if there was 1 or 2, i'd check them out. you got to be a bit selective to make your point.

Obama's diminished gun right fears is fueling record firearm and ammo sales...

Obama's diminished gun right fears is fueling record firearm and ammo sales...

Sales of handguns and ammunition are booming across the country, and retailers say it’s all about the November election.

Gun shop owners around the nation told FoxNews.com that sales, brisk ever since President Obama was elected, have spiked upward in recent months.
And manufacturers are having so much trouble keeping up with the demand that one, Sturm, Ruger & Co., can’t keep up with demand. The Southport, Conn.-based company has had to suspend new orders after taking orders for more than 1 million guns in the first three months of the year. Smith & Wesson sales are way up, as well.

Gunmakers' stock soars

“Sales usually increase this time of year with tax returns, but this year has been higher than most,” Mike Weeks, owner of Georgia Gun Store in Gainesville told FoxNews.com.
“People are scared their gun rights are going to be curtailed after the election."

Weeks said his sales are up around 30 percent, and that he now sells ammo by the case.

“Usually people come in to buy three or four boxes for target practice. Now they are coming in asking what kind of deals they could get on a case,” he said.

Industry experts and gun shop owners alike say the factor driving gun sales is the Nov. 6 election. There was a similar spike before President Obama was elected to his first term, and many gun buyers are saying they fear Obama’s re-election could mean more regulations on firearms. Obama famously told fundraisers in 2008 that many Americans “cling to guns or religion,” and gun enthusiasts believe he is not fully behind the Second Amendment.

“It’s definitely the election year," Jason Hanson, a former CIA officer and personal security specialist, told FoxNews.com. "People feel that Obama will serve second term and with it their gun rights with taken away, so they are stocking up.

“They’re also worried that the economy is not getting any better and that they need to protect themselves,” Hanson added.

In 2009, gun sales had shot up after Obama took office and firearm enthusiasts rushed to stores, fearing he would tighten gun control. Sales have continued to grow throughout his administration.

This year’s uptick comes on top of a record 2011, when nearly 11 million firearms were sold in the U.S., according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry. The group notes the $4 billion firearms business has bucked the weak economy, with robust sales since 2008.

One of the best indicators of firearms sales is the FBI's National Instant Background Check System, which federally licensed firearm retailers use to conduct the mandatory background check on purchasers of new and used firearms. Statistics through December showed an unprecedented 19th straight month of background check increases when tabulated year over year. "Black Friday," Nov. 25, 2011, saw a record for the most background checks in a single day --129,166.

Another strong indicator comes from Wall Street. Smith& Wesson shares are up a whopping 125 percent over the past year, while Sturm, Ruger’s are up about 112 percent. Even Taser, which makes non-lethal weapons, has seen its sales surge.

“It’s been a strong cycle. Sales of tactical rifles have been extremely strong,” Bret Jordan, a stock analyst specializing in the firearms market, told FoxNews.com, “Personal handguns have had a steady rise since 2008. The kind of stuff that fits in the waistband for when someone tries to steal your gas can.”

“There’s a lot of speculation that the Second Amendment will be affected by the next presidential term. There was one investors call and an executive was asked what he thought would happen if Obama was elected a second term and he said, ‘No one in the gun industry will tell you they like Obama, but everyone will vote for him,’” he said implying that a second Obama term would be good for continued business.

Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, said he is skeptical of claims that firearms sales are way up. But he said the gun industry does work to promote that perception.

"There's no doubt [National Rifle Association President] Wayne LaPierre is out there every day saying that President Obama has a secret plan to take away your guns," Horwitz said. "They want to gin up sales."

Death by "Gun Control"...
An informational Genocides relative to Gun control chart is located at the "Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership" website that documents the many, many millions of lives lost due to "gun control" practiced by many repressive governments.:

Barrack "pass the doobie" Obama is an expert in Constitutional Law, he used to teach the subject as a college professor, if anybody can legally figure out how to corrupt the Constitution with a stroke of a pen it would be him.

Hello all,

Well, I can say with certainty that if you were to remove all guns from the face of the earth, folks will just pick up a rock or a stick.

Its absurd to think that guns are the source of violence.

Man is violent by natural design.

I feel I've been apathetic about these issues for too long. Not long ago the fed said Fed laws trump STATE. Opposite of what the Constitution says, now I read my State's assembly approved a bill banning open carry of UN-loaded long guns in public. I used to look at the Militia type and think "What a nut." Now I look at those people as HEROES. Forward thinking, visionary PATRIOTS. It's time fo tell Washington to pull it's head out of it's ass! We are living in the BEST country, IMHO, but we have lost or had stolen CORE right, RIGHT under our noses!! I'll be fighting in the only way I believe to be productive in this country, by voting, in every motherfucking bill, law, election that I can. FUCK the the status quo shit just got real for me.. SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!
