We put all these guns on the street, and then people are shocked when someone gets hurt/killed by them. Any other product that causes death results in a lawsuit against the manufacturer of that product. Guns seem to be the exception to that, as they are made for killing. Seems absurd that it's O.K. to manufacture products designed to kill.
Turn on your T.V., and what's the main product they are selling?
Violence. Seems it's rubbing off on some people.
I am not anti-gun or anything because the cat's out of the bag and we should have the right to defend ourselves. However, I also believe that no one should have the kind of power over others
that a gun gives you. It's a conundrum.
Peace would be nice if we just gave it a chance.

So sad that yet another senseless incident has to occur, that we live in an era where anything can happen and nothing is longer shocking..

It's unfortunate that this man is still breathing.

Peace is amazing - until some mentally deficient individual does something like this...

Can't have peace in a world plagued and corrupted by sin. This is our fallen state - our reality.

Infinitesimal that's actually pretty funny.

I say supporters of violent crime because... if Good law abiding citizens were unarmed, violent crimes like this and more, would sky rocket! I won't explain, only the the wise understand this.

looks like we are gonna have to deal with TSA at the movies now too.

No need for that really, some or even all of this could have been avoided simply by having an alarm hooked up to the emergency entrance he used after buying a ticket, so he could go out, put on his gear and come back in locked and loaded. That one small feature that most emergency exits these days have could have prevented or at least minimized this incident.

Too many guns. Violent Attitudes deeply ingrained amongst the Sheeple - due to the 24/7 negative media, the games Younger people play, and TV in general..

Castigate me, if you will, but I am certain this combination is a real problem for the You Ess Ay. Some other Western Countries that I have visited for more than short-term do not allow guns in private citizens hands, and YET are not Police States... The people are also more Moderate, so these things are less likely to happen. This becomes peoples' expectations, and thus life is relatively peaceful.

In our Country the paranoia is everywhere, and this is just the beginning.

I believe the Profit-before-People Dialectic has come Full Circle, and we have too many Psyco and Sociopaths in our Society for it to remain peaceful. Some areas will be increasingly affected more than others.

We are unable to grow up. We are taught to dominate others. We have lacks in our Health Care system and in basic economics (the 99% factor). People are 'Cracking.'

Soon, I suspect we will see Pitchforks and Torches. Probably in an Urban enviornment first. Probably during a heat wave, or possibly if people cannot afford heating oil - although rebels move slower in cold weather. We may see laws regarding people congregating in more than groups of 2 or 3.. Perhaps Sports events, Movies or Public Assemblies of any sort ended until "Further notice," due to "Threats."

To keep us safe, will be the terminology.

In fact, I hope it occurs... No other way to change the existing Paradigm, IMHO. Except for a broad-based world war, and this could be the death-knell for our "Civilization." There have been reports of Obama going "War-Shopping." I am a reluctant Democrat for lack of a better choice. My passport is current, let's put it that way.

Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.
The figures comes on the day new Home Secretary Alan Johnson makes his first major speech on crime, promising to be tough on loutish behaviour.

I was thinking the same fucking thing after I heard Wolf Blitzer mention the deal with the emergency exit door. I guess there are so many variables that could have prevented this, it's just all fucked. How does someone buy four guns within two months and not put up some sort of flag?

to say that more citizens carrying concealed and unconcealed weapons would deter crime is a valid claim

to say that if you were there you would have been able to stop the madness is another.

body armor, cs gas, multiple weapons, not to mention the panicked crowd and what they would do if you whipped your pistol out:

the case isnt cut and dry. also the theatre has a no gun policy so im sure there were law and rule abiding citizens permitted to carry there.

goes to show, you can make guns illegal,

but all that will do is leave them in the hands of the criminals, and remove the uncertainty in criminal minds as to wether their target is packing...

Guys, be serious. He was a neurology PHD candidate at a very good school. Not psychology or sociology or some hilariously easy bullshit, he was a scientist. 99/100 people ITT, all due respect, could dedicate their lives to that study and wouldn't get into a good grad school, let alone do it by age 24. He was a wildly intelligent psychopath. He would have been able to outmaneuver a fucking alarm on an emergency door. He would have had to slightly alter his plan, no big deal.

I just don't see this tragedy as reflective of our social consciousness as a country. We have a lot of violent crime yes, but it has everything to do with income inequality, material obsession leading to personal insecurity, the disaster that is african american culture (not entirely their fault for obvious reasons) and the drug war. Solve that and then show me the numbers.

We have a problem in this country with consumerism, but violence? Violence is the mere end result of the aforementioned problems. We don't have a lot of violence for its' own sake compared to other advanced nations around the world. IMO this notion that we breed a society of angry killers in bogus. We breed very soft, effeminate non-violent men in this country. We do everything we can to try and calm the tendencies of testosterone-fueled boys with violent and intense sport, hunting, etc. Guys tend to flip their shit only when they get insecure about losing the rat race, and subsequently lose all self respect.

But this was just a psychopath being a psychopath. Guys like him just aren't that influenced by social norms.

Perhaps the solution is to follow the air marshall model and randomly put armed, trained (for this type of situation) people in places that have large gatherings of people. This would put the potential gunman in a situation of not knowing if someone like that might be amongst the crowd. The idea of potentially dozens of average citizens with varying degrees of skill pulling out guns to handle a situation amongst a crowd like this is almost as frightening as the idea of a crazed gunman opening up on an unarmed paniced crowd

statistics show permit holders hurt less innocents than police by staggering proportions, mostly because private citizens practice more with their weapons, as opposed to officers that have to pass a qualification once yearly on a human size target at ten feet...

that's not to say it couldn't turn bad but as always when seconds count the police are only minutes away.

also, the police dont rush in on a rampaging shooter, they hide outside until he kills himself or gives up, or they have enough force to go in (ie 5-10 highly trained, heavily armed, heavily armored)

so while it may not be best that everyone pulls out weapons(best would be the event doesnt happen) i would much rather have people willing to defend themselves and others use their weapons in that situation.

who knows maybe the guy only gets to kill 3 people before someone pulls out a weapon?

cant say for sure, but the statistics we do have show an openly armed citizenry leads to lower overall crime rates. and that armed citizens are more accurate than police...

Guns and attitude are only 1/2 of the problem, the other half can be attributed to the fact that since the 1990's the USA has closed most of its' state mental hospitals.

This shooter was severly mentally ill and most likely gave many warning signs before he snapped.

It's nearly impossible to get anyone committed today in the US. The person must agree to be committed and check themselves in to a facility or a psychiatrist must state that the person is a danger to themselves or others.

Most mentally ill persons who commit a crime are sent to prison rather than a mental hospital.

And lets not forget the fact that medication frequently doesn't completely control the symptoms and lots of times folks just stop taking the meds due to the horrible side affects.
