The DIY you couldn't grow without?

OK. im willing to bet all of us growing out here in the world use some sort of DIY'ing in our rooms/cabs. while i was smoking earlier cutting out clone holders from a pool noodle for my DIY bubble cloner..(https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=26473) and it occurred to me how much i love this thing.

its ridiculously reliable 99.9% success rate cloning (could be 100 i don't remember a clone ever dying, just being safe lol), ridiculously cheap, i can build one for less than $15 now from stuff at walmart, for as many site cloner as i want. cost goes up for the size of the rez, but a 60 site rubbermaid would be like $10 maybe 15. whereas my shoebox size runs 10 clones just fine and cost just 2.99. I've always liked the K.I.S.S. method and this thing has 5 parts. can't be much simpler

just as the link says, i do nothing maintenance wise. don't even PH the water sometimes but just tap water and air. 2-3 later if I'm not seeing new white roots I'm surprised.

all that got me wondering what else may be useful from real world perspectives. so what is your favorite/most used tool in your garden that you built yourself, besides of course the whole thing since i doubt anybody buys those all in one BCbudboxes and the like. you have to run into DIY somewhere, I'm sure.

Good one. I tried that. But it just wasn't cutting it for the smell I was producing.

Haha I made a tiny little one. But now I have a specific filter I have to buy due to cab restrictions and the way it was built.

I DIY almost everything! Here's some examples:

DIY grow bags(2.75G)

DIY 400W HPS/CMH ballast. Made from an old PC case:

DIY reflector:

..... and so much more...... I have just been so poor so long that I am not really ever able to buy the stuff I need. So I improvise whenever I reasonably can. This has made a lot of this "things I can't grow without".

Although I do have a tent set up, I also have a stealth PL-L cabinet up with separate veg/flower chamber. It's not in use at the moment, but I don't have to worry about hiding or taking it down as it fits in with the other chests of drawers.

Along with that are the DIY light traps for the intake vents ;)

Wow thats awesome you've done so much yourself. What's the grow bag made of?

Ahh yes the passive air light traps. I utilize those for flow throughout my cab. But for my main intake I splurged and bought the adorama dark room vent Looks much cleaner from the outside. Stealth was a big concern when I built my cab, so I wanted the outside to be as nondiscript as possible.

The grow bags are made from landscaping fabric. They are double layered, because this fabric is really thin. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to get fabric that is natural and herbicide/pesticide-free. Some of those fabrics will kill cannabis very quickly and without much hope of rescue. Get the really simple stuff that says it's natural, organic, or "chemical-free". Also, get the heavy nylon upholstery thread, it's much stronger and it won't rot so quickly. Putting the seams on the outside slows down how fast the thread decays too. These are 8x8x12, but they were originally 14 tall, and the top 2 inches are folded down to make a rim/handle area. The bag is only made from two pieces, laid out like a plus and then just stitched up. It's so easy. Anyone can make these things. Then again, you can buy grow bags pretty cheap. We just like cheaper-than-cheap lol....

When I first started using them I was under-watering my plants because getting used to the weight of them without pots was strange for me. I also think I need to get something on the bottom of the cabinet to set the bags up on top of. Just to get a little air space under the bags too.

Hand Watering Wand.

Water Pump w/ 1/2" Tubing taped or zip-tied to a smaller pool stick. Pump gets plugged into a remote outlet switch (from harbor freight) so that it can be turned ON/OFF from a key chain.

I love these remote outlet switchers.. handy or all sorts of stuff.

I don't do much hand-watering, but when I do its surely not going to be with a bucket and a pitcher.

Diy Carbon filter!

tried this when I was younger in an apartment. Made a complete mess and was blowing black dust out of my nose for a week. Not for me.

Isn't it. I mean I built my whole cab. And I can surely say I'm proud of building something that's sold for a few thousand, for under a grand by far.

Most recently a friend and I built a drain table to fit my veg area and it is so much nicer than the trays I was using.

My favorite would have to be figuring out that if I ran four 3/4" drains per bucket I could make it through an entire grow without pulling the system apart to remove root clogs.

The grow bags are very important in this kind of systems.Actually they are made from landscaping fabric and are double layered. So you can not neglect the advantages the grow bags has.
