Sign me up to try this method out. I know this is a marijuana forum but has anyone used this for vegetables? I'd like to use it for some peppers, tomatoes and kale.

Does the KISS formula work for them as well?

I'll report back with some progress shots as well

Thanks to all of the posters who keep the good info coming!

EC varies based on what nutes are you using and how much of them, as well as the water you start with when mixing. So it's not gonna be same value for all growers.

I know that is the same for all , I tried to find the perfect EC for my strain(white russian)if someone in the past grow, this value of almost 1,25 at 0,5 conversion with 6,4 PH are working great for my plants in soil, and my hempy looks like she want more, she grow a lot in a few days , i am very happy to see this after i save her from soil , I happened like last year grow ,dint pay much attention to PH fluctuation, from mistakes we learn ,thanks again

Thread so big.. Eyes bleeding trying to read it all.. Hope my questions are not too dumb..

So I assume you water until water starts coming out the small hole 2 inches from the bottom? How much water should come out of this hole??? just a little or a lot?

I assume you don't leave this water just sitting in your drain pan but you get it out ASAP?(Dont let the buckets sit in this drained water?)

Thanks!

yeah man, water until you see water comin' ouit the hole, ...some look for as much as 20% runoff, some just water until they see runoff and stop, ...and considering it will continue running for a minute or so after you stop, you'll probably end up with close to that anyway.

picture.php

and while that drained water CAN be a problem, ...it's not the same level of problem as if it were a regular pot sitting in water and where you can get 'wet feet', i've killed more'n my share with wet feet.

...if you use Blumats you can dial them in so you get virtually NO runoff and as far as i can tell, them that do that don't complain. (Blumats is next up on the 'must get' list for me)

...btw, while i agree this is a long assed thread i assure you if you read it you will find answers to questions you don't know enough to ask yet.

I'll second SOG! Dude I've read it twice and many parts I've read several times. There is a wealth info in this thread and if your are a neebie like myself, the hempy seems to me to be the best way I can find! I believe the only way you screw this up is by trying to help you babies a little too much! I've fried my seedling twice over feeding, had bulbs blow, timers quit working, meters die, but thru this thread my ladies are budding like mad and my clones are fixing to go to ther final home. Take the time and read my friend. You can't buy this shit anywhere, ya have to spend the time with ya head in the monitor. :tiphat:

Blumats are a pretty cool toy man, Im still skeptical myself but there is virtually nothing that can fail. I've been keeping close eyes on fellow members' threads using Blumats just to see if they have any complications using them, I guess im just looking for an excuse not to get them lol.

Water until you see drainage coming out of the drain hole then stop.

There are many ways of getting rid of the catch water. Wringing out a sponge or cloth, changing trays etc.

IME I find using a big syringe is best. I attach some rubber tubing to the nozzle to make suction easier. Ever so quick and simple. Just suck up the drain water with the syringe, squirt it out in an empty container and flush down the toilet (or feed your house plants with the excess). The syringe I use is about 100 ml.

Or a turkey baster...or a shop vac...or a water cannon.

You shouldn't have that much run off water coming out of the hole....if you do then you're using too much....it just has to over flow a little, this lets you know the little reservoir in the bottom is full. That's all you're looking for.

The bucket shouldnt have any holes in the bottom of it for the roots to get into that standing water...only a hole 2 inches up on the side. So technically, standing water shouldn't be too much of an issue. The run off should evaporate over night and be ready for the next water/feed.
