GCG and Boobs's 2012 NorCal Organic Outdoor: The Foothill Fetish

GCG, boobs, what straw mulch do you use that doesn't sprout? I used bedding straw last year, and it's apparently wheat, and it's apparently quite vigorous about sprouting. Been sprouting all since last summer. I like using rice hulls, but when it gets windy the rice hulls just blow away.

Same straw I've got the last few years at the local ace hardware. I'm not sure of the details to be honest. I know it does the job and haven't taken the time to look into any details.

If you would like me to, I'd be happy to, I have to go buy a truckload or two in the next few days. :peacock:

Boobs - I dig your strawberry fields. What kind(s) are you growing?

I can't take too much credit for the strawberries actually, the bed was already established when I moved in here. All I've done is top dress with some stuff and give some leftover EJ Bloom a while ago. I'm told I'll get two harvests a year from them.

ha, thanks. :tiphat:

I tried to take some pics of the Jay-bies (baby jays :p) but it's hard to get too close without disturbing them and I am more concerned with being a bother to them than taking a nice picture. That being said I'll see if I can find a different way to take their picture today. I have a feeling mama Jay won't be leaving the nest today though, it's real cold here brrr...

here's some more pictures of those flowers...

the transplanting has begun!

actually, everything is in at my spot. GCG and myself picked up some clones from the nice people at the L.C. Farmer's Market this past weekend.

So at my spot we ended up putting in:

8 Bubba/OG's
Bubba Kush
Hindu Kush
the MLI #11
ECSD
Romulan
Lavender
Platinum
Ken's GDP
and a Blue Dream into the big 300 gal.

We inoculated with mycorrhizae and some nitrogen fixing bacteria as well upon transplanting. Probably hit them with a tea in around a week.

I still need to finish mulching and some other things to tidy it up, but It's real hot out right now so I thought I'd do an update while I'm taking a break...Maybe I'll climb up onto the roof later tonight to get a nice picture.

Jay babes!

The Microbulator arrived at GCG's so we'll set that up today, maybe I'll take the microscope over there tomorrow and take some videos of some real activity.

I'm going to be starting to black box the Ghost Train Haze's tonight.

I'm sure everyone is real busy out there, so here's to hoping everything goes smooth for y'all. cheers

Great update, putting clones out already huh? Hope it works out, I am still tentative to do so myself. The weather here in Cali over the next two weeks looks good, so now is as good of time as any I suppose.

Let us know how that Microbulator works for you. That is from Microbeorganics.com right?

you should have posted a video of those ladybugs with some sound. Putting your ears near a couple thousand buzzing ladybugs is quite an experience, terrifying actually. lol...

Good luck GCG and BOOBS, hope you two go above and beyond expectations. I will be watching.

Couple questions I have

Which Og Ghost Train Haze do you have? I have OGGTH #1 in my collection of seeds.

Why dont you get a Vortex Brewer?
I think you can afford it with a goal of 150lbs lol. I was at the maximum yeild expo in MI this past weekend and they use a big ass air pump with their system. Its better to use air pumps then water pumps.

I only brew up 5 gal bucket of ewc tea with zho and great white, molasses at a time, I use a couple air stones. So what do I know haha.

Keep it green

it is the Ghost Train Haze #9 (Poison OG)...here's a little description I found... "The elusive Poison cut of OG Kush married to Nevil’s Wreck is one of the more rare Ghost Train Haze crosses. Heavy buds with a sour reek snap branches, and the resin content is out of this world. Large clawed out calyx structure makes for unique bag appeal. A super energetic high with a funky OG punch – a definite favorite."

They are about a week into blackboxing, I also picked one male which has a fantastic smell. Going to cross that with our structurally mighty Bubba/OG. Probably cross it with all the strains we're running this year, but that's what I'm most excited for.

I agree about air pumps vs water pumps, I'm guessing you saw some of my stupid brewers that I was fooling around with earlier this year.

here's a little description about the Microbulator that we ended up getting. It only makes 50 gallons at a time, but after talking it over with a fella over at microbeorganics.com we concluded that we will be better off diluting a great tea compared to applying more of a worse tea.

here's a little description of it I did in a post yesterday...
The microbulator is pretty dang cool, after setting it up I was impressed it could accomplish as much as it does with only one, rather small, air pump. It is able to create an airlift which escalates the water to the top breaking the surface tension for gas exchange as well as additional aeration through a diffuser all while pumping over 6 gallons a minute through the lift. I was real impressed with the design. It also comes with a mesh bag and alternate diffuser if you were going to use compost with larger particles.

Or you can make your own vortex brewer for about 300$. MSG me for pics.

I'd definitely be interested in pictures, we're pretty happy with the microbulator this year, but we'll be stepping it up next year. The Neoterics will be hard at work until then... ;)

that's basically what you're talking about right? I'm surprised you could make one for around $300 the air pump required to circulate the tea for something that size seems like it would have to be fairly hefty...the microbulator's rate of flow is around 6 gallons per minute, that is about 10% of the total volume...So...the entire tea has theoretically been cycled in 10 minutes...I'm kind of questioning that you could even get a several hundred gallon vortex tank for under $300.

An old man down the road has a bunch of tanks like that that he uses for wine fermenting, they'd be perfect...I tried to go buy some off him but the geezer wasn't interested.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, nice to see y'all here. :thank you:
