very good work matt, thats the type grow I dream about in my sleep :) .... I read you put the lights off for 3 days before switching to 12/12.... is there a benefit of total darkness for a few days (speed up the change of going to flowering mode) or was this an accident?
great job so far cant wait for more bud pics :dance013:

Hi Matt,
I've only read this page.

The first 2 weeks of 12/12 the plants are still growing, then the transitional period starts to happen. Between the second and third week the plant will start to flower, this causes the PH to drop drasticly, time to change the nutes (to bloom).

I always use MH bulbs (thicker, robust growth with less stretch) for the first 2 weeks of 12/12 and grow nutes for the first 2-3 weeks of 12/12 depending on variety, thus giving them more N at this growing stage.

Hope this helps
C

I am glad to hear you have got things back under control and are finding the silicon to be stabilizing things a bit. I went through the thread and am I correct in that you are just using Ionics Hydro Bloom and PK 9/18 with the recent addition of the silicon and that is all?

While I agree with CLoneman that during the first two weeks of flower you will get fluctuations in the PH cause of the plants rapid growth during the stretch and the transition to flower it shouldn't be as much as you are getting, that is pointing to something else.

The fact that the plants are growing fast and up taking nutrients quick points more towards rapid depletion of certain elements within your solution while leaving others hardly used. It could be that certain additives introduced during this time may have helped. A careful watch over the next couple of days will give you more insight into how you will keep the problem in check.

I have found that plants that start to bud very quickly and show pistils almost within the first week don't need that long of a transition on veg nutes maybe 3-5 days. Plants that take almost two weeks or longer to show pistils benefit from having veg nutes longer but there is a balancing act as you don't wanna have to much green late in bloom. So depending on your strains needs running veg nutes longer in those initial days may have helped your imbalance.

With your other test areas it seems like you have the proper research underway to get your problems under control. Keep up the good work, look forward to watching this progress :rasta:

um, been thinking about this ph swing/ec prob. you mentioned doing some tests, With flowering plants. (clones or bigger plants?) you also mentioned that when fed plain water (with silicon) the ec still raised? if thats true, your plant is regurgitating it's food/nutrients.If you add more, it would be unable to acess it anyway, and cause more prob's and various deficency's from lockout. Some nutrient's can lock up real easy if the pH is out. ( ie canna, is known to lock up real easy unless you get everthing spot on. Re, Too High or low ph,too hot, too cold etc.) I think it's either an enviromental problem which has caused the plant's to stress out, thus locking out nutrients, causing deficancy's.or possibly something in your water(get it tested, you should always know what your base is,especailly in hydro, double especially when you have big numbers in hydro. Try another test with a fresh healthy clone, see if it reponds the same, ie, big ec and ph swing's. it is also possible that they(the plants) simply are doing too well, the flo gro only has a small res, which is easy to imbalance. in which case adding more food more often will solve the prob.Sorry for the long ramble, its that bho! M.
