What's new

Its Absolutely True!, Exercise DOES A Body Good!!!

Having an Ex with a large back account (a.k.a. she gets half), did way more than exercise alone ever could have.

Someone should try 'smashing' a book every now and again...opinions represented/based on youtube videos are extremely legit.

It's coming along. I'm not making the progress I'd like as I have many other tasks as well. I had to spend most of my weekend trenching, running conduit and water lines for the "Back 40" gardens in preparation for planting. Going full auto for irrigation. I did manage to take a day and reroute the sewer lines in the basement so I won't have the kitchen drain pipe running through my gym once completed. LOL!

Nice...I love it too. I'll post pics of the Home Gym Seamaiden and I are building out. I'm about 2-3 weeks away from completion. I've got a kickass Nautilus Smith Machine (Commercial grade w/ bearings), free weights, treadmill, recumbent bicycle.

Would LOVE to see it!

Been off weights for about 6 months now, recouping from injuries and all around fatigue...

Bout to get back in it next week, been prepping the body all week...

I'm recuperating still from my torn ACL, ruined our plans to hike the Palisades last year, and I don't know if we'll get an opportunity this year. Guess we'll have to MAKE the opportunity. Dave's focused on preparing for the Tough Mudder at Northstar this year.

We have no free weights to work with anymore, either. So, that's a bit of a problem. Dave got the Smith machine because after I hurt myself (one year ago exactly yesterday afternoon!) I couldn't spot him. Sure, I can encourage him with stuff like, "Yoo poosh too leemeet EVEDEE TIME!" (say it with a thick Russian accent) or another favorite, the Cajun-style "Yoo cahn doo eet!"
But no proper spotting, because I can't kneel (yet? I hope I can get on my knees soon, it's a useful position for so many things).

I'm recuperating still from my torn ACL,

I'm not an orthopedic surgeon, but I think there's a relatively simple operation to repair a torn ACL. I think it's an outpatient thing. Quick and easy. I would recommend it if at all possible because 11 years ago I tore the ligament on the other side of my knee. The military didn't fix it and now I have a decided limp and the knee is all but useless. Even all the physical therapy in the world can't fix a physical injury like that and it just gets worse. :tiphat:

Yes, I should have been more clear. I was injured a year ago, had surgery at the end of October. However, the surgery was nothing resembling simple for me. I was in-patient for two days because I was unable to gain pain control without IV intervention. I had developed a great deal of scarring in the joint capsule in the time between the injury and the surgery, and that's caused me some real problems in my recovery, including needing to have, as they so euphemistically put it, a 'manipulation under anesthesia,' to work that scar tissue free, break it apart physically by forcing my leg into a straightened and bent position a few times. I've never experienced pain like that and I've never awakened from a surgery crying from pain like that before, ever.

Did a solid 3mos of PT post-op, then discovered the insurance company wasn't paying what we thought they were, had switched, by then I was in a 'fuck it' mode and decided to deal with it myself. I got tired of people staring at me when I was in so much pain I couldn't control the tears.

Anyway, surgery's been done, in recovery mode, just trying to work myself back to my pre-surgery, pre-work out condition, and the knee is still stiff as hell and.. just hurts. But now both of them hurt, but it should eventually get better.

It's a cool, breezy afternoon. I'm going to go plant some SQUASH! Maybe more beans and quinoa, too.

Wow SM, sorry about that, me and my big mouth, and I think MY knee gives me problems. At least your prognosis might be better than mine? I'm pretty much fucked. Surgery now would be worse than the problem. Hey, idea, let's toke up and fugitaboutit. :tumbleweed:

12-16 months of rehab after a complete tear of the ACL to get back to 100%...that's with structured/monitored P/T, Worker's Comp injury from a deep pocketed company.

9 surgeries over 10 years, just shy of a complete knee replacement, ending with a resurfacing(micro fracturing) of a chondral malaysia of the femur and a cartilage transplant(donor cadaver).Still working beautifully post 3.5 years and I'm back to squatting(not deeply)just shy of 400.

Keep at it...good luck...Smith machine is a great piece of equipment

p.s. I too had scarring issues, found some good use for paper cups with water(frozen) then cut away the bottom portion, exposing the ice, then manipulating incision sites...it was no picnic, but it beats the hell out it intravenous morphine, which made me violently ill and rashed like I was in a bike accident. Was stuck on that CPM machine for a week.

No worries, and I'll smoke to that! I mean, if it always hurts no matter what you're doing, then just say fuck it, smoke it to your head, maybe share with a friend.
