Another shining depiction of us comrades! Time to go level another African country :)

Really though, a large portion of the world outside of us (as well as in) have seen the USA as this warmongering child of a country on a tirade. On the other side a vast amount of us see this country as having been the 'protectors of the world'.

Whether we should or should not continue to try to protect our allies worldwide depends on the demands of the relationships we've built with those allies. For instance, we probably should have let Europe deal with Iraq and just stuck in Afghanistan. Should we stop escorting international trade ships across dangerous Somali waters as well? Do we mind our own business or get involved? What should our level of involvement be if we intervene with a universally 'evil' event?

The fallout immigration from Iraq will go to nearby eastern European countries where a hatred for the west will continue to breed. With the more Western EU countries just a train ride away, our allies will likely see more anti-west violence from Muslim extremists than we will. The issues concerning war refugees were likely covered with our allies ahead of time, and you have to wonder if a fraction of the country was thankful for our involvement to overthrow the regime. Still, there are loyalists to every insane regime and European civilians will probably see us as ass-hats since they'll be having to deal with more anti-western immigrants into their immediate area. This spawned from a charge we led on some bogus information about 'nuke trucks' - vehicles said to make WMDs. (Russia had advised our intelligence was bad on this beforehand by the way, ouch!)

Russia invaded our ally Georgia a few years ago and we did nothing but try to negotiate - it was France who finally negotiated the cease-fire. We were smart enough to not try to intervene against Russia.

Our country was put up against enough of a financial wall after the war in Iraq to know better than to get involved in anything that could turn into more large-scale debt.

After visiting a lot of places though guys, I must say we've got it pretty good!

your politics are protectors of the oil mostly:)if one country has something they want they are 'protecting' like hell.:) for us Russia looks the same but much more brutal. By the way the American ambassador here is acting like he is some kind of gubernatorial in colony which we don't like much. he is always telling to the government what should they do,what is better for Bulgaria and stuff like that. like i said before i like Americans and Russians both but the normal people, the politics are the same everywhere.

Western democracy has sold out. Highest bidder wins. The politicians are just middle-men in the racket we call government....taking it's cut on everything and throwing the people a few bones whilst the fat cats feast.

Pfffft...'protectors' hahahahahaha. USA is largest arms manufacturer in world. I think you mean 'profiteers'?

I love the patriotism I have seen in this thread. Any human should be a patriot to their country and maintain loyalty.

On a note of self actualization....and watching shows like national geographic and depicting the clear verbal warnings being warned of....the world simply can not sustain itself at the rate we are populating it.

It is simply mathematically impossible. Whether you want to label me a crazy, or whatever, it is the simple truth. This planet is made up of natural resources, once they are depleted, they are gone.

Science is science and will all live by it and around it.

Something as simple as a certain species of animals being forced extinct by human population could disrupted a entire cycle of life. Imagine if mycorrhizae was wiped out, there would be absolute damage of biblical proportions. Natural water would be gone, climates would crush, all living life would truly die.

No money, politician, bank, god, state, government, can stop something like that.

It all is divine intervention of human population and there are people in this world fully aware of this problem and morbidly terrified of that; rightfully so.

Simply put, you can not take 2 million kittens and force them to live in the same cage drinking from the same dish and eating from the same source. They would ruin and deplete everything and consequently all die.

Not that this has anything to do with the status of our country but it is something to keep in mind when considering the "special interest". If someone or something doesnt slow the process down, then we as a race of humans will face our own existence of the face of this planet.

Like I said, call me crazy but I really do believe what I am saying. Just think about this day and age of Justin Bieber singing, Jersey Shore looking, faked tanned, GMO eating human beings. You think they give a shit about some fungus living in the dirt? They cant even navigate through the Mcdonalds drive threw without GPS and facebook. Society is out of control and the very system 'the system' made is, I feel, completely out of there fucking control now.

Peace I'm done and I hope you all dont judge me to badly for posting this.......I love humans!

Of course, money rules the world and has for centuries now. Democracy may be nothing but another way to govern power sold at high prices, however it's the least abrasive model we're forced to deal with these days.

I used to be pessimistic and cynical about our political conditions for years, but what are our other choices? We were born into a world with regions of areas who govern power differently. Turns out democracy is fortunately the least abrasive to its people.

Constricting freedom has been a long practiced control method by many staples of power such as religion and politics, it just turns out democracy gives you more options. Sure we could talk on the darkside about how all those options are deceitful, but we'll need to deal with the cards we were dealt sooner or later.

Weapons have been processed and sold well before the birth of the bullet. International arms trading has likely been alive since boats could sail and since countries were formed. I'm sure the USA has profiteered likely from the sale of millions of firearms -
Just as England has sold swords, just as Japan has sold gunpowder, just as an Eskimo would sell you a spear as soon as a Russian would sell you an AK-47.

The weight on a world power is to meet demands of a constantly more interconnected world. If a demand did not exist, the money could not be made, a greed manifested by a universally manifested note of trade. Something we're all too addicted to stop using because its needed to live! MONEY. We just happen to be an industrial giant with production capabilities to meet a demand, surely we could just get out of it and let someone else take over as the 'bad guy' - we know that same entity will be driven by monetary goals.

'Good' is still a matter of perspective. The USA is well looked down on by outsiders until something nice is done for them, we get many countries hooked on our assistance in this regard. These are wasteful expenses of our funds we have no more of.

By all means though, if another world war goes down in Europe then it would be good to see how long we can stay out of it. WWII may have happened a long time ago, but its what got us thinking we should start getting involved in these crazy intervention efforts

I agree democracy is the best model we have come up with so far, but when combined with rampant free-market capitalism, the system is perverted to suit those with most money.

So the doctrine of the system is "Grab what you can whilst you can. Capital is King". All the pillaging of the Earth, the wild consumption, the huge waste of materials, the deadly resource wars are driven by this relentless greed.

The planet can't support 10 billion people who consume like westerners so sacrifices will have to be made...the global recession is the first stage - squeeze the poorest so the rich can continue their lives of luxury. And so, the workforce are squeezed by unemployment, rising prices and stagnant wages.

Just as our privileged existence in more economically developed nations is built on the exploitation of others. If we sit idle then we are in tacit agreement with the action of our leaders. It is up to the citizens of a nation to hold their leaders to account. The problem is that 'Jo Public' is not interested/uneducated/misinformed/distracted by the circus or just accepts the status quo.

thanks to the majority, represented in a democracy; a majority of dumbasses, who have bought on the leftie non-sense, the birth of 1984 will be what comes next.

Since when has there been a successful system whereby those who aren't the richest aren't the most powerful? Rich doesn't automatically equal money, either. It could be land, cattle, sheep, goats, women, shells, whatever. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY and I truly think it's astonishingly silly to think that humans will ever operate any differently than we have and are doing now.

SeaMaiden, that's a very cynic stance; not that I disagree with it though... but deep down inside I'd like to believe we could operate differently... but who knows really

Yes, it is absolutely cynical. I would have liked to believe a lot of things, and I did. Then I saw how we really operate. Very few real, substantial differences between cultures, not when it comes to things like power and resources.

If you're not at the top, udadumbass.

1984 is fiction. Reaganomics is real. 32 years, 300:1 wealth-gap increase. Lowest tax rate since forever.

Wake up bomber. Global politics and economics have veered right for three decades. Drinking the kool aid is swell, makes ya want a bite of the baloney. But when they float you a log in the pool and tell you it's a Baby Ruth, watch out. It's a turd.

Art imitating life or life imitating art? Always an interesting question.

Laffer is a con man.

"Laughing with Laffer"

I hope we don't see a "Laughing with Timmy" in several years.
Geithner April 2011: “Is there a risk that the United States could lose its AAA credit rating? Yes or no?” - Tim Geithner: “No risk of that.”

Geithner April 2012: “If we don't deal with these debt problems we are going to be Greece in two years” - Tim Geithner: “No risk of that."
